Diese Asus-Typen können einen ganz schön warten lassen, oder? Hoffe, dass die Jungs wenigstens eine qwertz-Tastatur einbauen. Wäre sonst gar nicht mehr mit dieser Firmenpolitik einverstanden...

Re: Official launch of Eee PC in Germany next week

Today, Asus announced that they will start to sell the EeePC 4G in December. the price will be 299 Euro , see news at Heise:
http://www.heise.de/newsticker/meldung/98537

If I compare the Euro price with the US-$ price and the actual conversion rate of 1.44, then I feel cheated.

USA doesnt have VAT. So E299/1.19=E251 , which is less than 364 dollars

My dissatisfaction comes less from the comparision with the actual US-price, but with the announced price at the first Eee presentation.

To explain the title of the thread : In this context, "launch" was Asus' press conference of Novemver 6th.  wink  And it appears more exiting.

Re: Official launch of Eee PC in Germany next week

The Eee PC is now mentioned at Asus' German website:

http://de.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=24& … odelmenu=2

For the linguistically impaired: They give the same information as on
http://eeepc.asus.com/en/product.htm

On the German website, they also list the resolution of display and camera. Other versions of the Eee are not mentioned.

Re: Official launch of Eee PC in Germany next week

well, i was tired of waiting, and guessing...

phone #1: (bad news)
So i called MediaMarkt last week and they promised me to send a fax to Asus for a request,
the guy from MediaMarkt called me yesterday... the eeepc will be available in 1st quarter of 2008!!!

phone #2: (bad news)
i also called this store http://www.notebook.de/asus-eee-pc-g-734/
and they told me the same story - available 2008 :-(

could be JAN but also could be March ... who knows???

As far as i know one of the reasons for the delay is in fact the qwert-keyboard layout.

who cares?!
i would take any kind of keyboard layout.. i think there should be only ONE
official keyboard layout for the whole world (and only optional local keyboard layouts for customers who`d prefer to have one).

Re: Official launch of Eee PC in Germany next week

There is a new German review at:
http://www.spiegel.de/netzwelt/spielzeu … 44,00.html

This should get the Eee quite some attention. What they say about themselves: "Der Spiegel is Europe's leading newsmagazine and Spiegel Online is the most-visited news site in Germany."

They predict it will be sold shortly before christmas.

Note that they call it "Spielzeug" = "Toy"

Re: Official launch of Eee PC in Germany next week

The newest announcement for the EEE's start of sale give a very precise date: January 24th, 17:00

This is from http://www.heise.de/newsticker/meldung/101911

They cite Asus' product-manager Lars Schweden, from the CeBIT Preview in Hamburg.

Hmmm.  January 24th, huh?  Interesting that sounds like the same approximate date that a lot of US retailers are saying they're going to get their shipments in.  "Late January"

Re: Official launch of Eee PC in Germany next week

whenever if finally arrives in germany, the lesson i learned from having preordered the eee from germany in late november is this:

order directly from elsewhere next time (in this case i should've ordered from qbitonline long ago), from someone who has the product in stock. pay nothing before it's confirmed they have it in stock.

the eee was supposed to arrive before christmas, then it was postponed until 10.1, then "a few days", and as for now, until 24.1. what i don't understand is why it gets postponed. according to http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20071220PD213.html "industry watchers" expected asus to deliver 300,000 eee's before christmas, and asus delivered 350,000. so, how come the eee still isn't available in germany, even one month later?

i'm have very little insight into how these things work, so i can only give uneducated guesses: 1) asus / web shops deliberately lied about availability in order to trick people into pre-ordering eee's. 2) other shops/countries were later given priority over the ones in germany.

surely there must be other reasons. but what are they? how _do_ these things work?
