Re: The 'Does this game work in Windows' Thread

Couple more I tried (in the mood for a MMORPG)

Guild Wars - Tried with everything set to low - but it chugs like hell. This is with the 511 BIOS too - set to 900MHz. Couldn't find a way of dropping the resolution to 800x480 either, it's stuck at 800x600 so far as I can tell. Maybe some more memory would help (on 512MB) but I'm not holding my breath!

Star Wars Galaxies - Downloaded the trial - you can edit the options.cfg to set the resolution to 800x480, but if you do you can't get through the character creation - in fact it messes up all the menus. Shame - as it looks like it would run reasonably well. Whether it's worth playing since the NGE, can't say tongue

Eve - Tried this, and again, looked like it might work, but all the menus are messed up. I couldn't get through the character creation again, so not sure how quick this would be in-game.

Looks like for MMORPG on the move, WOW seems the best so far! Well bar any MUD's that is tongue

Thanks for testing. smile Maybe I'll give it a try, but like you said it's a bit laggy I'm afraid it's not very fun to play...

Also tested GTA San Andreas. It starts very quickly and it recognizes the 800x480 resolution, but framerate is very low. Slow motion effect wink Not playable.

Switch off blurring effects, turn all detail down, and overclock to 900mhz.

Works great. Very playable.

Settlers 3 Gold edition works fine at 800x600 using Lazers driver.

Re: The 'Does this game work in Windows' Thread

Actually - on Guild Wars - I've popped in some more memory and it does make a difference. Still drops frames when it gets busy, but it's almost 15-20fps once you get out of town (this is at 900MHz). Not sure what it would be like if it got a bit hectic in combat...

If you play it windowed (yeah I know) then it does squeeze the screen into the native 800x480 res. Shame theres no obvious way to put it in 800x480 fullscreen.

Extra memory seems to help LOTRO a bit too. Though again - no 800x480 yet sad

Re: The 'Does this game work in Windows' Thread

yeh and with the games that work, you have to scroll down the screen, and you have to restart when finished playing, because going to change setting in propetys doesnt work

Yeah, City of Heroes is exactly the same like that. But considering they come from the same company, that might be why. Out of curiosity, does 800x480 come up as a valid resolution in your options menu, but even when selected, refuses to set?

Eve char creation has always been a bit wobbly, as bit of lag will break the connection without the client reporting. I'll pull a classic client from an existing box, hack the ini file to get it into the correct res and post here next week

Nope, only option I get to pick full screen is 800x600. It seems they use a virtual file system too (all the game files are in one big pack file) so there doesn't seem to be a way to alter the ini files to try and force it. When you run it windowed it resizes to fit your desktop, but you do take a framerate hit when windowed. Not to mention the ugly window borders... Gah!

Problem I had wasn't with the connection, just with the interface squeezed into the smaller res, you couldn't always get the pointer onto the 'Next' button. I think I made it as far as about the final screen where you name your character, but then couldn't click or select to confirm everything. I guess if I went through this on my main PC, then did a login that would get past it, but I'm not sure how much further you'd get!

Ohh... never thought to try AO - I'll grab that down and try it. It's free to play the original isn't it? You only have to pay for the new content?

Could someone please recompile a list of "Definitely Working Games" here please? Nobody seems to respect the colour tags. Thanks.

I can confirm this works - it starts in 1024x768 so you need Lazertags drivers but once in you can change the resolution down to 640 x 480 and it looks really good - any more than that and it can be a bit hard to see as some of the text is quite small.

Try playing this when out and about and pretend you are a real hacker with the CIA onto you and everything!!! Awesome!! (Note: only to be attempted if you have no friends)smile

Re: The 'Does this game work in Windows' Thread

I don't know if Hacker Elite uses the same patches as just Uplink or not (US version Vs UK Version) but with the latest patch installed Uplink runs perfectly at 800 by 480 on my Eee.

If someone with Hacker Elite wants to report on if the normal patches from www.uplink.co.uk work, it could be handy.

The Longest Journey works - right part of screen is black, but game is displayed in left 2/3 of the screen.  Copied from another machine onto SD Card and ran "TLJRegFix.exe" to change drive letter.

No chance NWN2 works on an EEE (ive tried it on a core2duo with a GMA945 and it CRAWLED, its a very demanding game). So im pretty sure its NWN1 the wiki is refering too.

Re: The 'Does this game work in Windows' Thread

@shodanjr_gr  yea i know that NWN2 won't work even though it's on the xp list, it's just too demanding with graphics and processor power. but when i clicked on NWN2 in the list it did seem like it was talking about NWN1 i was just looking for conformation on it truly being NWN1 and not NWN2. so i hope that clears things up.
