There is a post somewhere in the forums here that said Eve was playable only in the station environment for trading and character training, but not much else.

Re: The 'Does this game work in Windows' Thread

I can confirm that Homeworld 2 works just fine out of the box when run off a flashdrive. I simply moved the Homeworld directory off my desktop onto the flash drive, used a "no CD" cracked .exe and it runs fine. A bit sluggish at 630mhz, runs like a champ with the eee overclocked to 900mhz.

I used 800x600 with the standard drivers. You do have to put up with the scrolling, but I can live with that. I have not tried the eee-customized drivers yet.

I'd expect no less from a game that has also been effectively ported to PocketPC, among other various systems. smile

Re: The 'Does this game work in Windows' Thread

Matrix Online works. Kinda. The screen defaults to a windowed resolution that isn't big enough to fit the UI, and as far as I know, the only part of the UI that can be moved or resized is the chat box. So a large portion of the UI ends up being cut off, as a result. Also, even when all the settings are turned to minumum, the game runs unbarebly slow most of the time, unless you're flying through the air with a hyper jump.

Of course, judging from the fact that MxO doesn't seem to really have that big of an audience now, I don't think this'll really effect too many people tongue

Just tested Black and White 2.

Loads fine and resolution works at 800x480 via the video tab. Gameplay is playable when set on low.

Re: The 'Does this game work in Windows' Thread

Just a word on the request for Freelancer, just tried with no success. The game plays though, plays well but it wont adjust to anything below 800x600. I got it to set its self at 800 x 480 but instead of actually rendering it at that, it just continued to render at 800 x 600 and took away the screen scroll, so all the important buttons and HUD were out of the screen and out of touch.

Unfortunate indeed as it is a great space shooter/rpg!

I'll have to take a look at that, cause I know the UI can have some issues in any kind of widescreen mode. I know on my other laptop, that has a 1440x900 resolution, if I edit the config files to get full resolution, the UI is pretty much completely cut off, except for the launch button. But if you do launch out to space, the UI corrects itself, and is completely visible. I also know that the actual UI files can be messed around with as well, so it might just take some tinkering to get it to work...

Re: The 'Does this game work in Windows' Thread

Anyone tried Everquest 2? The installs getting huge with all the expansions and its probably too much of a resource hog, but it might be worth a shot. Dont have an open account and my card is too small to stuff it on, but I'd consider resubbing if it worked even for minor grinding.

Race driver 1 works, there's an ini file in the folder, just change StartWindowed=1 then it works.

I installed it on an USB stick, and am running 630 MHz. FPS is way too low to be playable. I'm gonna tweak it a bit to see.

I tried the minimun setting possible. It's playable in time trial, but not playable at all when there are other cars on the track.

So I guess the answer is no, it's not playable. Even when the CPU is clocked at 812 MHz. When the race is on, the it's not reading the USB stick, so I don't think it's a storage problem

Yes, i think its does deserve a bit more attention. Other than thee  res problem the game seemed to run flawlessly even on higher detail settings. I think there could be a way around it, as there is a alot of info around the net on forums with a many people modding the res for this game a number of ways, of course the only draw back is of course they were all trying to increase the res and not reduce it... What i found interesting though, was that the menu adjusted to the lower res just fine! it infact resized the UI gfx to suit, if my memory serves me well that is..... Twas a late time of night!

I shall try it again tonight

Re: The 'Does this game work in Windows' Thread

Ok, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 2 is working with the paperclip method. It may also work with the hacked drivers, but I haven't checked with them. Only problem is that the FMVs don't play. For example, when you choose New Game, the screen appears to change resolution twice, pause, then brings you right into the in-game movie. I'm not sure if that has to do with the resolution, or if it has to do with the fact that I haven't actually installed it on here, but am running it off an external hard drive, which it was copied over to. I still need to check that. In game, though, it runs beautifully at full settings.

Survival Crisis Z also works with the paperclip method. I doubt it'd work with the hacked drivers, as I believe it requires OpenGL, which the hacked drivers are not friendly with. In game also runs beautifully, though it's not exactly a graphically demanding game.

Oh. And System Shock 2 also works with the paperclip method.

Re: The 'Does this game work in Windows' Thread

Saw them requested, but not seen anyone else post that they work (if they have, then sorry!).

I've got Jedi Knight, and Jedi Knight 2 working off a USB key. This is using the latest Intel drivers. Installed both off CD/DVD via an external drive, though I've also put them on different eee by installing from a shared network dvd drive over wifi.

Jedi Knight in-game works fine at 800x480, but the menus get cropped, and don't scroll either. Makes setting it up and quitting a bit awkward but it is perfectly playable and flies along. If anyone figures out a way of getting the menus to fit, let me know!

Jedi Knight 2 also works. If you edit the config files you can get it to work at 800x480, though you lose the publisher logos at the start (just press Escape to bypass them). I've not overclocked my eee, but it seems to run quite nicely if you drop the textures and detail down. Only tried single player, not multiplayer.

I had to find no-cd patches for both games mind, lugging around my external DVD drive not always the best option...

Hope this helps!

Next to try Lord of the Rings Online, see it that runs as well as WOW smile

Re: The 'Does this game work in Windows' Thread

Right - Lord of the Rings Online - Works and runs at a playable framerate (I guess at about 15fps) with everything set to low. This is using the latest Intel drivers and the 511 BIOS (with the EEE clocked to 900Mhz).

Only fly in the ointment is it appears to be locked to 800x600, and I've not come across anyway of getting it to 800x480 yet via Google. No joy on the official forums either (though another EEE user asked about reducing the resolution!)

I guess if you're into your fantasy MMORPG, might be best sticking to WOW unless you use an external monitor smile

Still another one for the list!

Re: The 'Does this game work in Windows' Thread

Introversion's Uplink works in XP; use the 1.54 patch from the official site to get 800*480 resolution. It makes bringing up certain screens and menus ingame a little cramped and occasionally awkward, but tis a price I'm willing to pay to have one of my favourite games in such a portable little package!
