I can overclock 1005ha-v N270 higher then my 1005ha-p N280

I am able to overclock this 1005ha-V w/ its N270 up to 2.0 ghz and it will stay stable, however w/ my 1005ha-p 2/ its N280 I am only able to overclock it to 1.8 ghz before it starts to crash

stats:
1005ha-v
stock RAM

1005ha-p
2GB PC2-6400

however I switched the ram around and tried overclocking everything again, and I got the same results.

Can anybody shed some light into this?

I am overclocking with fsb

Well, since the N280 has a lower clock multiplier than the N270, the FSB (and the NB) will run at higher frequency for the same CPU clock speed, so maybe you just have a weak NB, and it's causing instability. Or maybe you got lucky with your N270 and not lucky with your N280. Overclocking is not an exact science, results may vary.

On a side note, I don't see the point of overclocking the 1005HA. It will be slow in any case, and will just waste more energy when overclocked (which means lower battery life, and more noise, since more heat...)

Presumably it's less slow. Assuming 2 GHz stable, that's a 25% improvement - a worthwhile improvement. As for power requirements, you just run it overclocked on AC power, and throttle it down when running on battery power.

Interesting. How did you get your N280 to 1.8GHz? I know you changed the FSB, but where/with what utility?

Thanks!

Going from 1.73 to 1.8 is not worth it on the N280, just as Super Performance (1.66-1.73) normally is not worth it.

Both N270 and N280 have the same chipset, which seems to max out at 675FSB or so. Since the N270 begins with a much lower FSB, the only limit is when the processor or system devices have issues. The N280 is limited by the chipset and its own multiplier, otherwise it should be capable of ~2.1GHz or better even in a netbook.
