Realistically, what else could it be? No-thing. Because, as you so directly put it, Eee's don't come with an internal modem.

Its a shame but, there is no modem driver on Intel.....
It says:
Drivers for Your Modem
Intel no longer provides generic drivers for modem chipsets. The best place to get drivers for your modem is directly from the company that manufactured it.
