Yep, UNR (Ubuntu Netbook Remix)

Desktop version, don't really like the look of NBR. Xubuntu leaves out quite a few programs, and I like evolution and brasero, which are privvy to GNOME based distros, which scratches out Kubuntu.

I've shifted from Xubuntu 9.04 to Ubuntu 9.10. It seems pretty quick, and I like Gnome functionality.

I have karmic (gnome) on my 1000he and, in next days, I'll install it on my 701.
But I'm not satisfied with the quality of wifi drivers in my 1000he... ![]()

Well, I voted Kubuntu cause that's my main and favorite distro. ![]()

Write-in: UNR.
The netbook launcher doesn't work for me right now, so I disabled it and I switched the Ubuntu logo for the actual Ubuntu Gnome menu. Besides, even when the netbook launcher worked, somehow it wouldn't allow me to launch apps by touching it with the touch screen (I'm using a T91), so what's the point of having huge launchers on your desktop if you can't "touch" them to launch them on a touch screen?! I can launch with my fingers from the Gnome menu, but minus disabling the netbook launcher it's all netbook remix ![]()
Mind you, I want to try the Kubuntu Netbook Remix, but it's too new (plus there are other KDE issues...Ubuntu-One requires Nautilus, Dropbox is made for Nautilus unless you do tweaking, plus I use so many Gnome apps and the Gnome UNR is pretty good now that it's been out for a year and half or so). Maybe I'll try Kubuntu's Netbook Remix in Kubuntu 10.04...

Xubuntu...it's not that much smaller than ubuntu and it uses up a lot of ram but it feels a lot snappier for whatever reason.
I've also installed lxde on top of xubuntu when i need to run a little lighter.

Karmic is the first Ubuntu that works on my 901 with no mods. Using desktop since that's what I use on my other systems, didn't care for Kubuntu or UNR when I tried them with 9.04 on my 904HD. Haven't tried Xubuntu. I like 9.04 desktop, but wifi is broken for the 901, and the fixes I tried didn't work. *shrug* 9.10 is working, so no more fussing with that.

UNR is a waste of time... the Netbook Launcher takes up heaps of CPU.

I've found that UNR 9.10 is quite a bit more tuned/polished than in previous versions, to the point where I no longer feel compelled to use my painstakingly hand assembled debian/openbox setup anymore. Really, I would actually recommend it this time as it is nice and snappy.
On another note, I've tried Ubuntu MID Remix (8.04) which was unbelievably quick on my 701. I managed to get keyboard and mouse working, but wasn't willing to invest the effort to get lan/wlan drivers up and running on such a limited system.
I also tried the Ubuntu Moblin Remix (whatever version that is based on), which was also pretty awesome (seeing as vanilla moblin doesn't run on non-Atom cpu), but did not handle the low resolution well.
Kubuntu Netbook Remix (9.10) was very pretty, but really does lack any sort of polish whatsoever. Much like Kubuntu itself, it will hopefully be refined and polished over the next couple of releases.
But yeah, UNR gets my vote this time around.

Hi Chaps
I have a 904HD. Started with eeebuntu then easy peasy. Tried 9.04 UNR but it didn't work very well. But now 9.10KK UNR is out and works like a charm.
I had to install eee-ctrl to get the silver buttons working and once I updated the system everything was tickety boo! Even iplayer runs perfectly now. UNR is great and is no detriment to my mind.

Fenris
