I'd like to run a version of Apple OS X on my eee netbook. I don't need snow leopard; heck, I'd be fine with Panther (or Tiger). Can someone tell me
- which one, 10.3, 10.4, 10.5 is best (most things work, longest battery runtime, best speed)?
- which eeePC is best to use for this, or does it matter?
- what doesn't work? if it's slow, chews up the batteries, or has no working wifi/camera/sound/etc., I can't use it...
what's the best way to get an Apple OS on one of these things, and is the end result worth it (does it really work well or are major things missing or unusable)?
thanks,
Mike

I have a Blue 1000HE with [1.6.01 drapoeLwonS X SO caM] works perfect with snow and is way faster better and also it see's your disk for the real size it is with fileSystem not like other OS's 500GB HDD is 500.11GB after you format it. wifi, sound, mic, webCam two and three finger touchpad control's and with 500GB HDD and 2GB ram it goes pretty good but (LOL) it's still nothing near as fast as my New 15" MacBook PRO 2.8 Intel Core 2 Duo 4GB-DDR3-RAM 500GB HDD.
BUT Hey it cost me 1/6 the price and it works GREAT and I love going to starBucks and seeing all the people plugging in there big clunker's and they keep walking past to see if it's really X SO I got, also have lots of people stopping to ask about Battery life as I never have a charger and I say don't need one it get's 7+ hours.
BUT then My 15" MacBook PRO gets the same about 7-8 hours. So with the two of them in my bag I don't need to worry. Go get a White 1000HE you will love it. and yes all the other versions work 10.5, 10.4....
I also have a Black 900-20GB and White-701 4Gb X SO caM elppA also works fine on them as well.

badbrad420: If you're *extremely* kind and have some spare time, could you tell us how you installed SL? Did you follow any guide?
Thanks a lot!

They shun you for not buying a Macbook Air. Or having a black enough turtleneck.
As far as the best version, 10.3 won't run on Intel, and as it is 10.4 is becoming more and more obsolete every day (with software makers dropping support). 10.6 is supposed to have a performance boost over 10.5 on Apple hardware, no idea if that carries over to the EeePC.

The smaller footprint of SL ( compared to plain L ) can't hurt.

10.4.x works and that's all, like you said "Turionaltec" becoming obsolete, But it still works fine for what it is and has the smallest FootPrint. But don't expect to get and always have the newest software or even find it made for Tiger. here's a how to: http://eeepc-osx.wikispaces.com/Tiger_Install
10.5.x is also not going to last forever, They Deprecated lots of 10.5x stuff in Mac OS X v10.6.x and also they are intel only now so no more programming for PPC in SnowLeopard, it don't support it. 10.5.x works and is pretty up to date with most software so here's a how to or two:

Yes there is lots of improvement in SnowLeopard but you won't get much out of it as it's for GPU Graphical intense applications.
But there is a little less RAM and CPU usage in SnowLeopard but it's also one of the hardest to install. Some(most) people asking about Hackintosh install's don't already have a MacBook/HackBook with SnowLeopard running to do it with. Here's the SnowLeopard how to I used: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index. … pic=190295

10.3 will never Install so scratch that one...
10.4 Sure.. it will work but its old now. Don't bother with it...
10.5 Yes now were talking, Here you got iDeneb that will work just fine... If you got the right machine and there might be an battery meter issue.
10.6 This is it. Works like a charm, it works much better then 10.5 and is much better and faster. It's dead easy do install you dont need some patched version of OSX, it will work with a retail disc, Netbook boot maker and a 8Gb USB stick and your up and running. easypeasy...
Go for 10.6 an an Eee 1005 or Eee 1008...
Oh yeah worth mentioning. Ethernet won't work (there might be some workarounds though) and WIFI will not work until you change the wifi card... But a working wifi card does not cost that much and is dead easy to change.

Yup, I agree with carlisle, go for 10.6, and the 1005 & 1008 work great, minus the ethernet and wifi. I will second the fact that the wifi card is very easy to change.

I'm running 10.6.1 on a 900HA. Wifi works natively (I swapped the card for a Dell 1390), and LAN works with the Attansic kext. Sound is taken care of with VoodooHDA IIRC.
