Does anyone know if there's a 7" LCD that can replace the existing LCD in the Eee PC that uses a higher resolution?
I was messing with a Sony UX at a local store this morning and noticed it has a 4.5" screen with 1024x600 resolution.
If a stinking 4.5" LCD has better resolution than the 7" display in the Eee PC I figured there must be a replacement 7" display "somewhere."
Does anyone know if a higher resolution 7" display exists ... and if it will fit inside the Eee PC?

I'm sure there will be a higher res screen but the Sony is aimed at a different market. The EEE is built on a budget and the screen on the sony probably cost more than the EEE itself.
I had a look on ebay but couldn't find anything.

also i can images 1024 res on a 4.5inch screen makes alot of text to small to read, there for u need to make it bigger which makes it nearly pointless. thats the same reason 15inch have same resolution as 3/4year old 15inch and 19inch have same res as 3/4 year old 19inch.

You wouldn't be able to integrate the new LCD unless you are a pretty experienced hardware hacker with a great deal of time on your hands. They dont just plug in like a VGA monitor, and the controller IC is more likely to be on the motherboard than on a FRU relating to the LCD.
Also im dissapointed with the rumored new larger LCD for the Eee. Instead of adding more resolution, the increased the size while keeping the resolution, lowering the DPI. A step backwards in my opinion.

I will be interested in a 8" or 9" screen with a higher definition like 1024x800...

did you allready know that the eee can display 1024x768 (even 1280x1024) on it's screen with kkjj's tool and lazertag's modded drivers for windows ?
everything is here on this forum

Yeah but you cant do that under default xandros, or linux for that matter.

true.. sorry... for Xandros OS...

This has been discused a few times, and it was decided that it would be too expensive to make it worthwhile, as there are not any other screens available that use the same connecter and have a higher resolution.
It could be possible to use a monitor attached to the vga connector, mount it inside the screen casing, and use the battery as a power supply for it. However, this would be very difficult and would probably ruin the battery life.
Not worth it in my opinion as asus is going to release a new eee this year with an 8.9 inch screen, probably at 1024*600

Just a thought, but when the 9-inch eeePCs come out I bet we could get one of those LCDs and put it in place of our current ones with a little dremel time. I doubt ASUS will remake their connections and just utilize the same video controller on the board.

Is there enough room in the current Eee screen section to place a larger screen, such as 8" if you took out the webcam, speakers, or anything else that you don't need to use? If so, what are the chances of a 3rd party company making a larger screen along with a new front panel, kind of like the prototype 8" Eee pics that have been floating around the web lately? I don't necessarily care about a higher resolution (although it would be nice) just a thinner bezel and more viewing space over all would be nice.
Edit: I wonder how much more battery power it would use if the screen was only an inch bigger...

would a spare display for eeepc 900 or 100x fit into my 701? (I mean hardware, mechanic and driver)

it is possible but it's certainly not a task for the faint of heart or average modder.
i did this myself to my 702 and nearly killed my beloved eee in the process of actually getting it working.
you can plug a 900/901 LCD in to a 70X model and it will "work" without modding but you'll get the 7" image with a black border on the rest of the panel.
to correct this, you'll need a modded BIOS. i personally killed two EEPROMs from flashing and reflashing so many times to get it working.
at it's simplest, the BIOS needs to have some patched modules from a 900 replaced in the 70X BIOS (mainly a the display module). but the AMI core 8 architype used for the EeePC is made a bit of a mess by sloppy link layer coding from ASUS developers.
after you get all that finally stable (only in certain OSs, vista and win 7 freeze on boot) you'll need to do a fair bit of case modding to get it to look good.
depending on your needs/tastes, you have two options here...
1: remove the speakers and webcam from the screen/lid housing and get busy with the dremel.
(you can actually mount one or both of the speakers in the area to either side of the touchpad or in the ram door if you want)
2: use the lower hinges from the 70X and the upper half of the hinges from the 900 and put the 900's screen/lid housing on the 70X lower chassis. this will allow you to keep the webcam but the case will not quite match in terms of color and finish and you will have a bit of an "overbite" exposing the camera when closed.
you'll also be left with the choice to either scrap or move the speakers with this way as well.
