Hi, my first post since easypeasy install; very happy with it.
I wondered if anyone has a definitive method to turn on the 701's webcam so it'll work with skype and cheese? I've seen lot's of posts about this, but none with a full solution. People allude to eeecontrol and eeconfigure - is there anyone who can explain?
thanks in advance,

All right - there's no one here; so if you have the same problem, let me advise.
You can swap out eee configure for eee control by using the add/remove function in the menu bar. You don't have to use synaptic. It works fine, and although configuring skype for sound was a struggle, there's nothing missing, just setting the right options. Good luck!

Meanwhile I'm Back on Xandros 1.6.1.61 and the webcam indeed is running!!!
Suppose the problem is the high temperature of the EeePC 701 with eeebuntu.
Here the fan is seldom and slowly working. Measured with 'acpi -t' the maximuim temperature increased after 30 minutes up to 57 C. The permanent inside temperature is between 55-57 C. With Xandros the netbook-body does not get so warm, because the fan is nearly permanent running with a medium speed. But I cannot measure the temperature with Xandros. The body is about half so warm as with eeebuntu!!
So might be, this is helpfull for you to switch the fan to more steady running, especially
for the 701 with it's small body. With such a patch I should like to go back to eeebuntu.

When you were running easy peasy did you check to make sure that the camera was enabled in the Bios?
