"Dual-stick" gamepads

Does anyone here have any experience, thoughts, etc. on USB gamepads with dual analogue joysticks (e.g. Logitech Dual Action Gamepad, Nyko USB Air Flow, Saitek P380/P480, etc.), when used with a Linux Eee?

I'm looking for a reasonably-priced and compact (if possible) USB gamepad which will work well with my Eee 701 (stock Xandros OS). "Shoulder" or "trigger" buttons would be welcome - though I think all but the cheapest gamepads seem to have these nowadays - but I'm weighing up whether to go for a pad with dual analogue sticks, as there seems to be little price difference at the budget (£10-15) end where I'm looking.

However, I'm not sure if this latter feature would be overkill for me, as I'd mainly be playing games like SuperTux, MAME and Doom/Doom II (yes, I'm a "retro gamer"-type), which probably wouldn't require the analogue sticks. I also don't know if Linux games have support for the sticks, and also, the gamepads with these installed might be too big to go in the netbook carrying bag smile

Any thoughts on the above would be much appreciated - I'll also take another look through the forum archive, to see if this has been covered before (used the forum search, but didn't find much on analogue sticks!).

Thanks,
Tim.

Re: "Dual-stick" gamepads

I play with Defender Game Racer Turbo (looks like PlayStation joystick). It is USB gamepad. Use it with rejoystick under default Xandros. BTW, its not a compact gamepad.
Works well in Supertux.

Re: "Dual-stick" gamepads

I use playstation-type USB gamepads, one analogue and it pretty much has the same functionality of the analogue gamepad for the game consoles. I've used it with the pSX emulator in Ubuntu, though I haven't gamed yet on my Eee PC (this was on another laptop), but it should work fine, the Linux gamepad drivers support analogue gamepads effortlessly. If you're going for a really exotic gamepad with many buttons, you may not get full functionality of your gamepad in Linux (basically, if it requires a driver installation to get that gamepad fully working in, say windows, then you may have to hunt down a driver or write one yourself to get all the buttons working in Linux).

Re: "Dual-stick" gamepads

I absolutely love the new Logitech Dual-Action. I had an old one, and the d-pad was mediocre, but the newest has an incredible d-pad. Sticks are very responsive, overall a great controller.
