I am an inexperienced linux user. I have an old EEE 700 2G model (long story why I stupidly bought it instead of the 4G), and I have recently installed BrowserLinux, formerly BrowserPuppy, from an SD card. I am having a couple of issues.
First, on installation, it did not have the 800x480 screen resolution that the 700 series uses. I selected 800x600, and it works, but some dialog boxes get cut off at the bottom. There is an option for custom screen resolution, but it asks for vertical and horizontal Hz numbers, which I don't know (and could not find with a search). Does anyone know how to set the proper screen resolution?
The one additional program I would really like is TightVNC. I use the windows version of TightVNC, and it would be great if I could connect with my windows computers through it. Does anyone know how to get it working?
For those looking for a fast small install with a good browser, I think Browser Linux is worth a look. It seems to run quite fast in RAM, and boots from my SD card.
Thanks for your help.

Yes it does. I have tested several versions of Browser Puppy/Browser Linux on my 701. They all offer the 800x480 option.
Here are a few links that may be of help.

dawnsboy: I just installed the latest version today (3.54). During the install, it presented me with screen resolution options, and there was no 800x480 on the list. I have it installed currently. If there is a way to change it to 800x480, let me know.

It does it automatically on initial boot from cd (and every boot from cd if there is no save file). It will also do it after installing to usb or to hard drive as a frugal install or full linux install on first boot after installation.
I have it installed to a usb stick that I use when I want to transfer files or do backup of the SSD. Browser Linux is like all Puppy Linux official distros and most puplets since 4.0 dingo. The user is asked about time zone, language, keyboard, mouse and is offered a dialogue to set up display. At this point the user may select XORG or XVESA. Select XORG and wait a moment or two for another dialogue box which will ask you to select 800x480 24 color or 800x480 16 color. After making your selection Puppy will then boot to the window manager.
I promise you there is no trick or secret to this. It is automatic. If you have somehow gotten to the window manager and are not in 800x480 then press CTL-ALT-Backspace. This will exit the window manager and present you with the command prompt. Type "xorgwizard" without the quotes. This will bring up the display dialogue as described above. Make the appropriate selections from there. When xorgwizard exits you will be back at the prompt. Just type "xwin" without the quotes and the system will boot into the window manager.
If none of this works for you I would suggest re-downloading the Browser Linux iso then check the md5sum before attempting to burn it.

Downsboy:
I am looking at the Puppy Video Wizard right now, after following your directions and choosing "xorgwizard." There is no 800x480 option on the list. For LCD panels there is 640x480, 800x600, 1024x600,1024x768, 1288x800, etc. . .
I know that I downloaded and installed the correct file. I am running from the SD card using the method described in on the web page.
I really appreciate your help. The screen looks fine, but sometimes dialogs boxes are off the screen (but the base screen looks perfect - not running off the screen).
Strange.

That doesn't seem possible. Once you have reached the initial video wizard dialogue and select "xorg" another dialogue will display after a moments delay offering only two choices; 800x480 16 color or 800x480 24 color.
This is true on each version of Browser Linux, Pupeee b4 and every official release of Puppy Linux since version 4.0 Dingo. It is also true on almost all Puppy Linux variants (puplets) since 4.0 Dingo.
The only things that I can think of offhand that might cause the issue that you are having is a corrupt copy of the iso or a hardware issue that prevents setup from detecting your display adapter. I have never heard a report of a bug in the setup utility regarding Eeepc display adapters.
Just to humor me try setting up the 800x480 again. This time when you get the dialogue that includes 640x480, 800x600, 1024x600,1024x768, 1288x800 scroll on down through the remaining selections and see if 800x480 appears "out of order" near the bottom of the list.

Hi all,
I have NOP 4.3.1, and the res is fine. I could upload a screenshot, but the resolutions I get (on my
701 4G) from the dialog are (the plus is the current one):
800x480@57.6+
640x480@85.0
720x400@850
640x400@85.1
640x350@85.1

It's just not there, downsboy. I've been up and down the list several times. Here's what I get:

Select This if you know your monitor frequency specs.
That's it. No 800x480. I AM SURE - POSITIVE - 100% ABSOLUTELY. I'm just reading off the screen.
If you have any other suggestions, I'm all ears! I'm using 800x600. I'll try selecting 640x480 and going back into the setup program to see if that makes any difference.
