high cpu idle speed/usage

Hi all,

Currently my eee box idles with the CPU usage (from windows task manager) at about 50%.

I recently upgraded the memory to 2gb.  Though I can't remember if I noticed the increase in CPU usage after the memory upgrade.

I was just wondering if others could post the idle cpu ussage of their eee-box's so I know if something is wrong with my eee-box.

Thanks

Re: high cpu idle speed/usage

What antivirus software is using?  Normally, if no application is running, CPU should be 95% idled.

Re: high cpu idle speed/usage

To verify this, you may disable it and see what happen.

Re: high cpu idle speed/usage

ran the computer in safe mode.  no virus protector.  only 12 processes running.  same issue.  i'm thinking this must be a hardware issue, if so its under warranty.  i'm hoping not to have to re-install windows just to show its not software related.  if it is falty hardware,  two problems on a six month old machine is quite annoying.

See whether this is the same reason on yours:

I have a new installation of windows 7 and found it happen on mine.  After 10 minutes of waiting for the completion.  The machine is finally calm down.  smile

Re: high cpu idle speed/usage

thankyou for your responses.  i read that article, good idea for something to try.  however, did not find that process running.  will leave the computer on for a while to see if it is something that will sort its self out.  i'll keep you updated.
