EDIT: New download location and agreement, including username and password
I have uploaded the latest version of my build including config source.
I hate to be beaten by this, so I do plan to continue, but no more giving out planned releases dates that I can't keep
. V15 does not have any scaled resolutions by default as it is a clone mode setup (external monitor and internal LCD look alike). The reasoning behind this is that by enabling clone mode fixes all DirectDraw issues (that I know of at least) as well as OpenGL problems. Of course if your game cannot run at 640x480 or the default 800x480 you will still need someway to correct the aspect ratio on a per game basis. So for instance AOE2 loads find now, but of course it's lowest res is 800x600 so there is scrolling to it with clone mode active. Without clone mode on it fails to load using this driver. Also the Intel GUI seems to be behaving much better now and I recommend using it.
If you go to single mode Digital LCD you should be able to do scaled modes, but keep in mind the fonts will still be an issue if using ClearType. The only way so far to keep them looking correct is to stay in 800x480 and/or turn off ClearType.
Standby is still not "fixed" yet. I'm still unsure the cause, however I do know if you come out of Standby with an external monitor on the system is indeed awake. This can only mean it is not sending an init signal to the LCD. Once again, I AM NOT A PROGRAMMER, but I will continue to look at every setting I can in this to try and determine how to correct for it.
To install I would make sure you uninstall previous video drivers, Intel default ones or V15, so that when you boot up it finds the generic VGA ports. Click cancel for any install or search for drivers prompts. Then unzip V15 to a temp folder and run it's installer located in
../IEGD_8_0_WINDOWS/Utilities/Setup.exe
You should get 3 total prompts for unsigned drivers, of course you must agree to them all to continue.
Please use caution as you experiment. As always I make no warranty or guarantees. This build is completely "AS IS" and I except no responsibility if you damage your equipment, someones else's equipment, any body parts, etc... etc....
!! I UNDERSTAND IT IS BY CHOICE I USE THIS DRIVER AND ACCEPT FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR MY ACTIONS !!

As always please feel free to give feedback

FYI, before I forget, letting the monitor "Turn Off" from a screen saver also still appears to bork the fonts to a point that only a reboot will help.
I sure wish Intel would release a package like this that is specifically for the non Embedded series of cards. Should would make life easier. ![]()

there is scrolling? I thought your driver includes 800x600?

Great job, LT! I am sure the entire eee community feels indebted to you for this effort.
Can anyone list the current supported resolutions for this 'enhanced' driver? Thanks.

thanks
i will give this a go tommorrow on my shiny new eee

@Lazertag: Do you think this Hack can be imported/exported to other OS's like Linux/Mac OS X? Would love to see it on Tiger/Leopard AND I would pay for it ! ![]()

Working perfectly in Windows XP Embedded.
Thank you very much, LazerTag.
I have put a link to your driver in my BLOG

Elbow: I don't think you understand exactly what this is. I don't think it would be possible on other OS's.
LT:
Hey, I really love the improved driver, but one of the greatest advantages of your new one was scaling 800x600 and scaling 1024x768.
2 programs I use absolutely will not work without this scaling... Why is it locked in these drivers? It's really, really helpful. I'd like to see these repaired and functional drivers combined with the scaling options... Because no matter what I'm losing games here, so if you fixed it to work with all of them, you'd be a god!

They aren't locked. There is a IEGDGUI.exe in Utilities folder comes with driver. Run it and select Single LCD configuration. After that you will be able to select scaled resolutions.

I had same problem, so i booted in VGA mode (hit F8 during initial boot), and deleted video devices from device manager.
Then, after reboot, i have installed drivers back using add new hardware from control panel, not by using setup.exe. After that all works fine.

Darling, could you do me the favour and tell me then what the Driver exactly does? It would be so mujch easier, if you or somebody else tells me. Otherwise you can go on saying things like : Your so dumb.
You now what I mean.

I wasn't trying to start a fight.
He doesn't (as far as I know) actually have the source for the driver - he's using a utility provided by intel to rebuild a driver compatable with the device. The utility is most likely windows only, as such, I'm assuming he doesn't know enough to do the same thing for mac or even the default Xandros install, unless the exact same drivers can be used, which I'm 100% sure isn't possible.

I gave this a spin today. Cool. Now I can play poker in bed. Thanks!
Two bugs I found. Ignore them if you like.
Firstly, the two Direct3D applications I have installed now run like ****. Trackmania Nations used to run at 22fps with everything maxed out, but now runs at 11fps (but it looks worse), and Toribash used to run fine (no FPS figures) but now runs at like 2fps or something. This doesn't bother me, since I only installed them to give it my new toy a try, but it may indicate something. (If it's only me that has this problem, just pay it no mind, it's no biggie so long as I can play poker.)
Secondly, extra-large and large mouse cursors sometimes come out corrupted. It looks like the cursor sprite is larger than it appears, with the excess normally being transparent. Now, however, it's occasionally filled with random pixels or bits of other mouse cursors. Normal size cursors appear fine. The "fix" appears to be to turn the video card acceleration down 1 notch in the control panel.
I say "fix", because the help text kind of implies this switches off one or two other accelerating things -- and I guess that you probably want ALL this stuff switched on if possible. So, in an attempt to fix it I downloaded the IEGD and had a play. I tried switching off "disable off screen bitmaps", the only option that sounded even vaguely relevant, but then when I installed my new driver the LCD went all white during installation. So I'm afraid that rather than go through all the other options, trying things out, I gave up. If anybody else has any other suggestions, I'm all ears, but the current situation is fine for me so I'm leaving it as is. (For now, at any rate...)
I'll say it again: this work is much appreciated. Lazertag, now that I've used IEGD myself, I'm in awe of your patience. You must be some kind of freaking Zen master.

How do you revert from scaling mode back to the default where you can select the 800x480?

Nevermind, uninstalled because the 800x480 mode seems to dissapear when you change resolutions, i get crashes and strange things happening with my screen. O_O
Its a shame!
Offline
Windows refuses to keep 800x480 and always switch to 800x600 after reboot. ![]()
Anyone knows how to tell this freaking piece of software that it not smart enough to change resolution all by itself?

For this version, V15, it's very important to make sure that all other drivers for video have been removed. I went as far as removing all the INF and PNF files that related to my many various installations. Most get a default label of OEMXX.INF (where XX is a number), but do make sure each INF you delete is an uneeded one. They of course can be found in
%WINDIR%\INF
@ Dagger
First off, I did notice my download site is not showing the whole file name properly (at least for me) so unless your paying attention to the file name you could have downloaded the original V01 and not V15. Make sure you have the latest if posting in this thread.
This driver is by default in clone mode, you shouldn't get a black screen, however I can't test every possible configuration. I would try installing it as you normally have again. If you do have a black screen again try hooking up to an external and see if your getting video there. If so maybe it's not starting up in clone mode for some reason. You should be able to switch to it from the Intel display properties
right click the desktop > Properties ^ Settings - Advanced, then see various Intel tabs on that properties window
On the main Settings screen of Display Properties highlight the display number from the view window you want to adjust before clicking the Advanced button. This will ensure your making changes to the proper device. If you get crash errors on any of the display properties this more then likely means some old driver files were not removed. (Any one know of good driver cleaner that work with Intel's graphic drivers?)
@gtom
If you happen to try again at some point, you can get 800x480 back in the Advanced section of the Display Properties.
right click the desktop > Properties ^ Settings - Advanced ^ Adapter - List All Modes
On the main Settings screen of Display Properties highlight the display number from the view window you want to adjust before clicking the Advanced button. This will ensure your making changes to the proper device.
@ Elbow
I can make a Linux distribution, however I don't have any Linux variant installed on my unit right now so I can do no testing or troubleshooting. If you want to be the guinea pig and can handle fixing any mess it might make on your own I'll create one. Otherwise it's simply going to have to wait until such time as I feel like putting Linux on. I doubt that is going to be any time soon as I am a gamer and Linux just is not meant for games imo.

Why is it extremely important to remove all other driver stuff? I just uninstalled the other drivers, and then directed it to this one when I re-installed. Should I re-do it?

If your not having any major issues I wouldn't worry about it. I however had been doing so many various installation and testing that I kinda borked up the install at this side possibly. Anyway I just wanted to make sure I was applying the new driver to a "clean" setup. The driver files themselves remain the same with each release, it's the INF that changes. So to make sure you don't accidentally use an old INF that doesn't have the new settings I would delete those old INF's.

Wonderful work LazerTag, I just have one question (which Im sure has been answered), but I have not been successful in finding the answer in the previous thread, nor this one. If someone can point me in the right direction, please do so, otherwise, forgive me if this has been addressed ![]()
The font distortion which occurs at scaled higher resolution, you said this was associated with Clear Type?. I disabled ClearType in the display properties and it still looks distorted, so now the next route I think I might take is perhaps increasing/decreasing the DPI?. Would anyone consider this a viable option to resolve this issue?.
Other than that, wonderful work - Im using it now and its everything I imagined it to be, minus the font issue ![]()

Re: back to 800x480, did you try using the Asus utility?
I've been messing around with registry settings on the standard Intel drivers, trying to see if I can get 640x480x32 to show as a valid mode. I found that changing the PruningMode value under the card's registry key to 0 (not sure the exact key--I actually had several that appeared under and changed all of them) showed me lots of standard modes above 800x480, but they scrolled instead of scaled. Problem is, once I switched to one, 800x480 disappeared from the display settings. The Asus tray utility was able to take me back to 800x480, though. I later found that 800x480 is also accessible from the Intel Advanced Settings dialog.

Actually not fully ClearType "fault" per say, but if you scale resolutions essentially what is being done is so many XX number of lines are removed to force it to fit to 800x480. so for instance 800x600 being scaled down must have 120 lines removed to fit. With ClearType on this makes the fonts even less legible as ClearType uses subpixel rendering which conflicts with the scaling. This causes text to simply vanish or appear as black boxes. I think all of us merely suggest disabling it to avoid those issues.
Now with the way scaling takes placeI doubt there will ever be a way to alleviate the font issue when scaling. Simply put, "the fonts are yucky when you squish them."
@ geoelectric
My finding were similar. No matter what registry settings I adjusted, even attempting to use DTD Calculator, 640x480x32 or 16 appears to be hidden or truly unavailable on the Asus and Intel driver. Kinda sad to0, as I've said before simply being able to do 640x480 in the higher color modes would resolve many gaming issues. That's my main aim of the driver, whcih has worked, but at the cost of adding some issues that don't exist in the real driver. ![]()
