Have an out of box experience with this Puppy linux derivative based on the new Puppy 4.2 release.
Thank you Luther. I am running it on my 1000HA. I'll try it on my 701 later.
Here is the Puppy forum topic link which has info on getting the iso:

I can verify that it runs beutyfully on a 701 of a 2Gb SD card. Havn't tried the wireless yet though, but hopefully it'll work smoothly ![]()

Couldn't get wireless on my 900, but it did find the eth lan just fine. Barry released a test 4.1.3 w/new pkg manager (mutt build) so I use that w/ the 4.1.2 pets for ath, apci, fan.

No problems with my wireless, but the wireless wizard isn't the easiest thing to use and that may cause problems for some.

I burned it to an SD card with Unetbootin, and I must say, for a small distro it is quite impressive.
I created a new partition on my 900 SSD so I could install it, but the installer is asking for one or two files, and I can't seem to locate them.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to go about installing?
Thanks, Doug

Ooh, I got stuck there, too. I had to mount the stick Pupeee was on (the one I ran live from) using the Pmount utility and then pointed to it and the files appeared.

Tried the wireless, and it worked out of the box - unlike my experience with Breeezy (took a lot of coaxing) and 3.02 (could not get it to work).
To install it I 'cheated' - I downloaded and burned a CD on my desktop, then booted my Eee from an external optical drive... once booted, it was a simple matter of using the Universal Installer.

I have installed Deep Thought 4.2 variant called 4.2-V2 on my Eeepc 701 4G. It is based on the same kernel as 4.12 so I installed the "extras" packages available at the Puppy Linux forum. Ethernet, Wifi, Sound, Fn Keys all working well.
I have used eee-fan to control fan speed and have overclocked from 630MHz standard cpu speed to 900MHz.

dawnsboy, what program did you use to overclock? Or did you simply do it in BIOS?
Thanks,
Jake

I did not need to use a program because the capability of over clocking the cpu is inherent to the "extras" packages found on the puppy linux forum. These were made for the kernel in 4.1 and 4.2 series standard releases (not retro).
I did not really use a program as it is not necessary. One only need write a combination of scripts and text configuration files. I did open up the contents of eeecontrol used for Xandros/Ubuntu to get information and syntax needed for this endeavor. I borrowed a couple of them outright as I recall.
I will write a how to if you would like. It is quite simple to do and I can post the script and conf files needed to do the job.

That would spectacular. I, and many others, have been looking for a way to under/overclock an eee in puppy for a long time. If you posted your how-to/scripts, you'd make a lot of people happy.
Many thanks for your help,
Jake

I'll second that - might be nice to be able to underclock my Eee when I'm in the field.

I posted the how to this afternoon. Actually it is more of "how I did it" than a how to. Others have used different methods to gain control over cpu clocks. Also to clarify I did use a program for fan control as posted on the Puppy Linux forums. I wrote the overclock script based on one that I had used in another OS.
The thread for the how to is http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?id=65557.
