Ok so I bought my Asus 1000HE today and i have been trying to find my bluetooth to connect to my phone. The problem is that i cannot find my bluetooth anywhere on my comp. its not in my device manager nor is it listed in my bios. i dont understand how a 1000he asus does not have bluetooth or atleast i cant access it. any help would be appreciated... i also tried downloading the bluetooth driver but i am also having problems with that

1000HE does indeed have bluetooth. Right out of the box, there should be an icon in the system tray. I would also check that it isn't turned off by checking the tray manager which allows resolution changes as well as turning certain functionality on/off.
The bluetooth driver that's available on the internet is bad from other user feedback I have read. I have not personally tried it because of that. Look to your Support DVD for the proper drivers.

I cant figure out whats going on... Its not on the tray icon either.. after the display i have the option to disable WLAN and the option to disable the camera. There is nothing there about bluetooth. its pretty weird

Go into the bios look for a list of devices that you can enable/disable. Make sure bluetooth is listed and, assuming it is, enable it.

Also, go into Device Manager (Run... > devmgmt.msc) and make sure it's listed, and has no conflicts.

To the best of my knowledge, BestBuy has sold crippled versions of the 1000HD, HA and H and all of them have had features removed in comparison to the "regular" versions (no webcam, no BT, smaller batteries etc). I'm not sure what they crippled on the older 900/901 series but it's definitely been most pronounced on the 1000-series EEEs.
Also, Best Buy was one of the original companies to jump on the EEE 4G bandwagon last year. They sold the original 4G EEE w/ XP pre-loaded but that was not a cut-down version. WOW! I just remembered that it's already been a year since I got my original 4G EEE.

So exactly one year ago $399 got you a 7" EEE 4G w/ XP. Look what $350 can get you now....a 1000HE with a free 16gb SDHC card or 2GB DDR2 stick. Times have certainly changed!

Man am I ticked. Just got home from Best Buy and fired up my new 1000HE. After installing all my apps and getting junk running I went to tether my phone to via bluetooth to get my 3G connection setup.
Come to find out, Best Buy is selling the 1000HEB, not the 1000HE, even though the box is labeled as 1000HE. I am extremely mad. No where on the box does it say anything about it being an 1000HE without bluetooth.
I will be returning it tomorrow and if they try to get me to pay the 15% restocking I will be filing a complaint with BBB against both ASUS and Best Buy.

Just back from returning my 1000HEB to Best Buy. The customer service rep tried to get me to pay 15% restocking fee. I talked with the manager and showed him that the box is labeled twice as 1000HE and only in small print does it mention 1000HEB and I found that it was missing Bluetooth, 9 hour battery, older CPU and 802.11n didn't operate on 5ghz.
He said he would return it and let his sales guys know that it isn't the 1000HE they are selling.

You did great there!

Wow. I'm glad I did not buy one at my local Best Buy. As a rule, I generally don't buy from there, but I really wanted to get my hands on a 1000HE before I purchased. After playing around with it for a bit (and shooing off the salesdrones), I decided that I'd get one. They had it at an attractive price, too: $349. Unfortunately (...or fortunately?) they had none in stock.
I ended up purchasing from ZipZoomFly last Friday; they had a deal (which expired last week) that if you got a blue 1000HE and a 2GB stick of ram, you got $40 off instantly. Plus, there's a $30 mail-in rebate (still valid!) for both the black and blue SKUs. Both should arrive Friday. The same day, I ordered an Intel 5300 WiFi link card as an upgrade, which has already arrived; still waiting on the antenna and keyboard skin, though.

its really quite irritating that this kind of thing happens in the first place, and its not completely bb's fault (although they will go to hell for their involvement.)
i at least partially hold asus to blame.
their marketing campaign would lead you to believe that each model is more or less not configurable (like a dell etc)... that it only comes one way.
so its regrettable that some retailers can sell chopped product for less and confuse the market. i for one dont shop there at all. ever.

I was looking at the 1000HEB (assuming it was the 1000HE) on the Best Buy web site. I noticed the BB specs did not include Bluetooth. I then noticed the Asus website did not list a 1000HEB. Before finding this thread, I called a couple of BB stores to try to reconcile this and was told by a sales person that the Best Buy 1000HEB is actually the 1000HA. (He said this was a mislabeling mistake by Asus... whatever.) In addition to the Best Buy model 1000HEB lacking Bluetooth , the sales person told me that their 1000HEB has a 7 1/2 hour battery (instead of the 1000HE's 9 1/2 hour battery) and that the 1000HEB has a different processor. Anyone considering going with Best Buy might want to consider using the "Add to compare products" feature of the Asus website on the 1000HA and 1000HE (there appear to be some additional differences) and have a close look at exactly what your getting with the BB item before you pull the trigger.
So, now that Circuit City is out of the picture, will Best Buy be resorting to Walmart-like tactics of requiring its vendors to produce similar but not identical items with unique model numbers exclusively for them? This situation with the 1000HEB sort of makes it look that way. Sad.
Good luck.

I got one the other day also, the tag on the bottom says both HE and HEB in another place, it is what appears to be the guts from the HA in the case of the HE it has the new style keybord of the HE but everything else is HA.
IF it wasnt 60 miles back to Best Buy, I might take it back, but Ive got a BT dongle anyway in the drawer so I guess I will learn from this and avoid them in the future.
Offline
kneemeister, I would make the 60 mile drive. You are basically paying $50 less than you could for top of the line.
Is $50 worth a better battery, much new CPU, bluetooth and 802.11n?
EDIT
Forgot to mention that the new 1000HE has multi touch I believe also.

Hey all... Just registered here. I've been reading here a lot for the past week ever since jumping on the netbook bandwagon.
I recently was 'suckered' by this whole ordeal. It definitely cost me some time & grief (and gas), but I'm happy to say that my Best Buy took it back (about a week later) with absolutely no problems. I didn't even have to speak to a manager! I just explained the situation, and gave them some of the info from this thread.
Good luck to anyone with the same issue!

We should all, at the same time and same day, go to our own local Best Buys and complain. All EEE users.
That might scare Best Buy from these horrid tactics.

Moral of the story, don't buy from best buy. Its just not worth it. they take 10 maybe 15 dollars off and you get a commodore 64. :p
Ok well maybe not that bad, but its just not worth the downgrade in hardware, not in my opinion anyway :p
and if they are going to sell these downgraded versions the should make it explicitly clear on the packaging or at the point of sale prior to the transaction being completed. This would prevent many unhappy endings and refunds.
Best of luck NM - I would try and get my money back.
I don't have a best buy where i live, But i have been told that the packaging is nearly exactly the same and it shouldn't be....
