Thanks for all the great info FrankGG!
I liked the pirate flag image you posted, but I modified it a bit to look a little more geeky.
I added my name/email/phone # in case I ever lose my EEE. Hopefully someone will be nice & call me.
(The image ended up being 18,224 bytes compressed)
Here's a link to the font I used: White Rabbit Font (hmm, what could that be a reference to?)
Here's just the skull image if anyone wants to make their own:
And here's a white version:

If a strangers netbook ever lands in my lap and has a custom splash screen w/personal info, I will remember to turn on Bootbooster to bypass it. ![]()

It would be better to have a password protected pc/hdd, its not likely ur gonna see ur netbook again if its lost/stolen. might as well force them to format the hdd and stop ur personal info/files from being accessed.

The simple, XP log-on style of password protection is certainly better than nothing. However, a pc protected in this manner can still have its otherwise unencrypted files/drives accessed by anyone with a bootable USB copy of Linux (puppy for example), no?

Vicious, have you tried this?

Chris - I modified this image for bootscreen use, but not tested it yet:
...its one I use as wallpaper ![]()

Here's my current boot screen - a Fallout 3 image I cropped and chopped. It's resized, tweaked, tried and tested and ready to slap in your favourite bios!! ![]()
(tested with bios version 1501, if anyone wants the ready-to-flash bios file, I'll be happy to email it.)

Tried and tested but I can't get it to work. I like to think of myself as a rather technically savvy individual. And with the step by step instructions posted you would think that the technical savvy'ness wouldn't be necessary. Well, for some reason I can't get this to work at all. I really want to use that Fallout 3 image. I have opened it in photoshop and followed the instructions, however, the JPEG image that I grabbed from this page is only like 82k but when I follow the steps to modify it to the bitmap format it comes out as a 300k file. The OEMlogo utility allows me to add the image to the bios but when I attempt to flash the bios it bombs and won't go. I've tried adding just your jpeg image to the ROM file and it doesn't like that at all. I'm trying to do this on a 1000HA and I've tried bios files 2003 and 1905. Any help would much appreciated.

Hiya ! - I'm assuming the bioses for the 1000h and 1000ha are different and unless someone else knowledgeable knows otherwise I'd not recommend trying the bios I've already tweaked.
However if you'd like to PM me your email address, I can send you my .bmp file for you to stitch into your own bios.
(I can't for the life of me remember why I posted it up as a jpeg - bmp woulda been better perhaps)

My God man. This is sooo nice! Please tell me that this works with 1000H and BIOS 2003! This is 1024x600 good for wallpaper, but for boot splash screen?

Ok, so I've learned a few more things from messing around.
Appearently, OEM Logo will *successfully* save image files to the 1103 BIOS that when compressed are larger than the original 9,348 byte ASUS Boot Splash Screen. It seems that the limit is around 85kb before it will error!
Though it makes sense that the 1103 BIOS isn't 100% full of data (how would they add future updates if all 512kb in the 512kb BIOS file is maxed out?) and that larger image files would work (the extra image data is just filling unused space in the BIOS ROM),
I have just made this BIOS Splash Screen and flashed it onto my 1000H and its 100% working

And here's it on the 1000H (Sorry for the flash)

Here's a link to my "Danger" BIOS (1000H, 1103) if anyone wants it--> http://rapidshare.com/files/152876632/1 … r.zip.htmlLots of luck getting your netbook through airport security, now that you've done this!

I always got a black screen once I flashed. It was because I did not change to coloring correctly. Had to make it five colors or something like that. Then it worked.

I think it auto detects the background of the picture and determines if you need white/black font for it to show up. I could be wrong tho.
Nope, that's not it... mine is a pure white background and the white text disappears into the back.
Maybe Pascal_TTH added that text himself in Photoshop? But it would still get covered in the white text... hmm, I wonder too how he got the black text.
640x480 images may cover the bottom right BIOS message (Re: press TAB or Delete) so use 640x448 dimension for the BIOS splash screen.
Using Microsoft Paint, zoom in to the bottom left corner of the image and set the corner pixel color to whatever color you want for the text.

bios re-working works on ubuntu via wine. image editing done first with gimp, and then i used mtpaint to resize and convert to an 8-bit bitmap @640x480
