During the windows installation I think I deleted the partition on my SDHC card. Now windows does not recognize the card and cannot format it. What can I do?
Thanks

Hi,
thank you for this exelent tutorial,
I have a strange problem with daemon tools (last version) on my nlited xp on my eee.
I tried to install Monkey Island 3, Blade Runner through daemon tools mounted iso files
result: impossible, I checked my files on another PC, tried to uninstall and reinstall daemon tools, tried alcohol 52%... nothing worked...
'setup.exe is not a win32 valid application' ![]()
I am just reinstalling my nlited xp, just to be sure.
Any one has this problem?

Not quite sure about it. Could be 16-bit support in Operating System Options?
Offline
do not cut out 16-bit app support if you need to run older programs. this goes for that compatibility patch as well. some drivers need 16bit support such as my epson printer driver.

I removed modem support. The descriptive text said its required for analog modems. I thought modem? Pffttt, this things doesn't even have a proper modem port. Then in a few days I received my 3G USB device. Guess what, its a modem!!! Arrrrgggg...
Don't remove modem support if you want 3G wireless internet. Modem support isn't just for that blocked up hole on your eepc.

Excellent wifi. Amazing effort. Thanks for that torowl.
Managed to get mine all working. Did not slim it down as much as you did, however, still quite slim tho ![]()
So far have installed the following:
- Vlc
- Firefox
- Pidgin
- Open office
- All the asus eee pc drivers (provided)
After all that:
C: drive status:
1.15GB used space
2.55GB free space
Contemplated installing windows for awhile there. In the end, glad I did. Again familiarity is a big factor.
One question: I've setup a password on my windows account. When I reboot, it does not ask me for the password. Windows just loads right away. I can lock the machine, no issues there.
Am assuming this is one of the things I omitted during the nLinte process. I think I should have checked "Must have password" in the user tab (refer user tab on Step 12 of the wiki).
Is there a way to re-enable this? Appreciate your help.

I know you can change it in TweakUI.

Another who has used this - thanks!...
One question though, I don't seem to have remote desktop in the start menu (or mstsc.exe) - I'm sure I left it in as I use it all the time, but I guess in my moment of space saving craziness, I got rid. Anyone know of any way to install/renable this at this point - I don't want to reinstal XP as I have my setup with everything installed and running nicely, but want remote desktop (partly for work and partly to try playing with the "Increasing the EEE PC's LCD screen resolution (Virtually)" thread). I've tried downloading the remote desktop software from microsoft, but on installation it states that my os already has rdp included (xp pro).....
hhmmmmmm........

Hey guys.
I followed the Guide from Wiki. In fact i pretty much set all the options exactly like the wiki. But now it wont let me install Live Messenger. It keep saying
There was a problem with this installation. Windows Live Suite was not installed.
System error details
Code: 0x80070714
Description: The specified image file did not contain a resource section.
Anyone knows if this is caused by nlite? And ways to fix this?
thanks!

It happened to me as well. I downloaded the setup exe file and installed it, instead of installing it from IE.

Can you point me to which setup exe you downloaded?
Thanks!!

Thanks for writing the DIY. I could have figured it out on my own, but having the screenshots and walk through was good reference to me... I got confused as to where I was REMOVING things, compared to where I was just changing things...
I ended up getting my XP ISO down to 332MB.

I' confused with the bit at the end where it processes all teh changes you've made and it started trying to install all the applications on my pc i think. I did the usual (pressed next a few times) n it installed but it kept saying failed so after that i just cancelled the install windows. Is that normal?

I wanted to get a smaller or no pagefile, but did not find a way to do that.
Anyone who has a suggestion?

I'm not able to activate Windows Firewall after nLiting my XP Home...I've tried many different times, with the latest version only removing Drivers, Languages, Keyboards, Help files and Manual install option files. I left everything else in...and I still get the same message "Windows Firewall settings cannot be displayed because the associated service is not Running. Do you want to start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service?" When I select Yes, I get "Windows cannot start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharting service"
The only way I've been able to make this work, is a regular full XP install. This is all with XP Home SP2 CD.
Any one now why this is happening?
Thanks,
Chris

Great guide. Have a few questions though.
1) My version of Win XP's 5.1.2600.2180 (with SP2). Any idea if that's newer or the SP2 update pack in xable.net is newer? Or is that SP3 update pack even newer (still ain't too sure what's SP3 all about)?
2) Can MS Office and Adobe Photoshop be installed as addons?
3) Don't seem to see a 'English (United States)' under Components -> Languages. Or is that already installed by default?
4) In the Unattended window, Regional tag, what's the 'Language groups' referring to? Do I have to select the languages I would be using?
5) I realized there are some options in the Unattended or Options window that are are disabled (and so I ain't able to change the settings), e.g. SFC. Any way to enable it so that I can change the setting?
Would appreciate some help here. Thanks.

hey guys. I dont really understand step 5.
5. Create a folder and copy the XP installation files (everything) from CD to that folder.
I have a legitimate copy of XP SP2. Is it asking me to literally put it in the computer, go to my computer->cd drive->copy everything I see in windows explorer and then paste it somewhere on my HD? then use nlite and point it to that folder? afterwards, I'm using the ISO I burned to install XP on the EEE, and not the actual XP CD I bought right? Thanks... just clarifying.

First, thanks for the effort to develop this step-bystep tutorial. Without any knowledge of slimming XP, I was able to go through the NLite tutorial and reduce the XPSP2 install and it worked.
Once I had everything installed and working, I went to the Event Log and there are two errors. One is the "RPC Server is unavailable" and the other is the "VSS". Are these critical or just something to ignor?
Is there a way to adjust Windows so that these errors do not contunue to show up in the Event Log?
Thanks again for all of your work.

brutalturtle: Yes, you are absolutely correct on all counts.

I don't suppose you would like to post that baseline ISO file for us? ;-)
