I've installed the base version (and did that trick for the /home thing) and almost everything is fine. The only problems I'm facing atm is that eeebuntu config thing. Everything was installed except the eeepc-acpi-settings.py which gives me a processing file error. Still, I just restart and everything is exacly the same.
Any help here?
Ah, the sweet taste of victory. So we can safely say that if you install Eeebuntu 2.0 Base, creating a seperate /home partition does away with the whole user/home/desktop bug. Yes?
I'm no help on the config thing, though, 'cos it disappeared after I installed. Or maybe I'm blind.

Grrr. OK then. But it's gonna be an Alpine Lager in Samuel Smiths. Fair enuf? ![]()
It's on the System Tools - > Eeebuntu Config.
If you try the command
gksu python /usr/share/configapp/nbConfig.py
from the console, does it work?
Offline
Nope, in fact there's nothing by that name anywhere. Do you happen to know the command?
Edit: Cool, got it. What's the point of it? All my hardware appears to work.

Hi, I've just installed the NMR on a brand new eee 1000. I was just wondering if there was anyone has multitouch enabled so far? it's the one thing not working on my eee.
If anyone's having trouble with function keys or wants easy control over bluetooth/wireless etc I recommend eeeControl (http://greg.geekmind.org/eee-control/#news)

im d/l now for my 1000 , does it at least fix the mic prbs?

Allright... Problem! Using an Eee 900 here and for some reason, when the battery is at around 10% or something, the laptop just Switches Off without Any other notice (or proper Shutdown).
I have checked on the Power Management that when the battery is at 'Critical Level' (WHERE is that level actually defined as a percentage??? Maybe I/we need to change that!) the pc shout perform a normal Shutdown. Could you ppl test your cases, does it do what it should do when on critical level? Or am I gonna lose data at some point? ![]()
PLUS, for some reason on Base, although I have a swap file of the required size, I Do Not Have Hibernate Functionality, can't see it anywhere. U barrieluv? Is it enabled to you? What about the battery?

You miss me? ![]()
I didn't create a swap partition 'cos I have no need of hibernation, but what I'll do, if you give me your power settings, is copy yours, run the battery down and see how I get on.
We don't want you losing data now, do we? ![]()

Hm. We MIGHT have a bug here, not sure.
* Gnome power manager seems to consider a 'critically low' battery level of 3%
* Eee 900 (possibly others?) doesn't seem to notify the system for such low levels... It is as if the battery will stay at 10% or 9,99% or something, Until The System Dies running out of power.
* This means that Linux won't ever know we're on a critical battery level.
* If (and only If we prove) this is the case, then Eeebuntu has to consider adding a script for changing the threshold
Heheheee, could you somehow verify if this is the case in general, e.g on your testing machines, setting 'On Battery Power' tab of Power Management Preferences as (e.g.) Suspend 'When batter power is critically low'? You can that way check if after some time u find your Eee test pc's Suspended or having Shut Down from power loss.
And a difficult one: Could we somehow Find Out HOW to change that 3% percentage into, say, 10%? Some PM configuration file??? If so, it could be part of the Eeebuntu Config Scripts!

Here we go ppl:
HOWTO: Fix the Critically Low battery level threshold so that your Eee PC doesn't just DIE waiting for the battery to show 3% remaining
Open a Terminal window and type:
gconf-editor
Then on this tree/folder view, go to:
Apps / gnome-power-manager / thresholds
And make the changes below (you could also try your own values, checking on when Your battery dies on Your Eeepc...)
percentage_action = 10
percentage_critical = 20
percentage_low = 30
IF it all works well, the guys could set up a Script for that.
In the meanwhile, I think it can be considered a bug to be included in the Release Notes...

Hm. barrie (or anyone), if you click on the battery metre, and then on the Battery percentage, on the window that opens, does it say 'Capacity 1% (Poor)'?
If yes, that's where the problem may come from. Linux cannot even calculate the charge correctly so we don't have accurate percentages or discharge times. But I'm stuck here since I dunno what to do with the ACPI or anything, to fix the capacity checking...

Hi Guys
Great research! Thanks for the details. We're in the middle of upgrading the site to handle the massive load it has been put under and then we can start to address these issues.
Offline
Where does it say capacity? I've just pulled my AC and I've got '100% Remaining'
Offline
Oh, dumbarse, yes I too have 1%..
Product: 900
Status: Discharging
Percentage charge: 90.0%
Vendor: ASUS
Technology: Lithium ion
Serial number:
Model: 900
Discharge time: 5 hours 57 minutes
Capacity: 1% (Poor)
Current charge: 0.7 Wh
Last full charge: 0.8 Wh
Design charge: 41.2 Wh

I am going to finally install some Linux on my 1000HA,
I decided on Eeebuntu 2, standard.
I dont think I would want to NBR on my Eee, with a 10" screen. But say I do, I would be able to add it without reinstalling right? I saw you can toggle between Gnome and NBR, but thats only if you get the NBR edition I assume...So can one add it to standard?

Yes, as I remember it's available in the Ubuntu repositories.

I have just discovered what appears to be a major flaw in Eeebuntu Base....,THERE IS NO /home DIRECTORY! /home is your desktop!!!
Not good! /home/username, and /home/username/Desktop are one and the same.
How can this be corrected?
I think this is a stroke of genius ! It gives us a possibility (at least in 901) to have the old /home/user from Xandros as a backup of the old settings. All the TB, TB Lightnig, FF etc settings can be copied to your new username.
In my 901 I tested the system with this default setting and after I was satisfied, I made the trick (check me, if there is errors!)
$su
$apt-get install joe (I like joe editor, use what you like)
$cd /
$mv home home_old
$mkdir home
$vol_id /dev/sdb1 (pick the UUID)
$mount -t ext3 /dev/sdb1 /home
$ls /home (check that everything is OK)
$mv /home_old/<user> /home
$cd /etc
$joe fstab (build two new lines for /home, use your own UUID:
# /dev/sdb1
UUID=e9ea469e-d237-470c-bb96-bfc22fe70ba5 /home ext3 relatime,errors=remount-ro,noatime 0 1
in System > administratio menu take 'Users and Groups' and build a second personality and give her Root account
Boot and pray.
You should be able to log in with your <user> profile. If not, try the other personality.
I'm not sure about this 'noatime'. It might be that relatime makes the same thing.

I had the torrent open the whole night 12-13.1208 and there was upload of 1.6 GB. Now I don't have a possibility to make that but I hope it helped. I got the BASE in about 2 hours over my 1 Mbaud ADSL.
