Touchpad driver 7.0.3.9 seems to work better with Firefox. I no longer need that 'Disable when keying' option unchecked.

r u guys serious about the new ones being better?
I just tried it and although firefox scrollng is more smoother, I find it a lot LESS responsive. With the old ones no matter how light I press the pad it registers both fingers and scrolls, with the new ones I have to press a little harder and it does not register both fingers every time.
AND
the BIG turn off was not being about to use the same 2 fingers scroll method, with the old ones I do not need to move BOTH fingers to scroll....do u get what I am saying, I can use just 1 finger to scroll as long as the other one is touching the pad at the same time. Its just like using a normal laptop touchpad with the side scrolling. New ones are very fast scrolling, with the old ones if I have to scroll to the top/bottom of a long page quickly I either use firefox gestures(right click while moving finger on trackpad to the left and up/down) or just middle click(two fingers) on trackpad and just move the curse up/down with one finger.
I find this MUCH more comfortable to use, cause I dont have to move my entire hand over the pad, only my fingers move.
I dont have a major issue with scrolling on the old one, just the odd time the scroll will be slowed down and delays the action, but the action does work and it actually feels even smother but its just a delay.
I will try the new one again later, but for now I dont see a need for them.
EDIT:
I am using Firefox 3.1b1

These drivers are much better than the 7.0.3.8 ones.....

I do agree...Firefox now works fine for me, which is a great advantage! I had to use chrome as default browser, and it didn't have support for adblock, gestures or multiple dictionaries available just with right click (quite handy if u use more than a language)

Hmmm well I've just gone back to touchpad 7.0.3.8 drivers cos the 2 finger scroll wasn't working well with 7.0.3.9, kinda intermittently.
I'll try and explain my issue and see if anyone else has noticed:
when i scroll down a long page (like this forum) and stop half way down, then try and scroll a bit further, the touchpad gets unresponsive and wont scroll. the cursor stays put, but no page scrolling action. i have to lift both figers off the touchpad and then try again. slightly annoying.
7.0.3.8 drivers scrolled ok as long as i have 'Disable while keying' touchpad option unchecked, and Firefox's 'Smooth scrolling' option switched on.
has anyone anyone else noticed this or is it just my fat fingers? :-)
any other differences noticed with these new drivers?

good to hear, I thought it was just on mines.
old drivers still have an issue with multiple scroll inputs, eg. if u start scrolling down and then to the left and back up, it lags the response by upto 3 seconds.
But I prefer this issue over not being able to scroll every time when needed.
Have to tried using 1 finger scrolling while the other finger is held in one spot on the pad with the old drivers, its so much better/easier.
Hopefully newer version come out again soon.
OR
someone figures out how to tweak/mod them.

Add me to the list of people who have had to revert back to the 1.1.2 wireless driver. I am using N and I started to get a popup from the wireless icon with ver 1.2 highlighting a disconnection that I didn't get with 1.1.2.

New touchpad driver v7.0.3.9 dated 27 Oct 2008 released on the Elantech website:

If you decide to upgrade, it may be wise to uninstall the old drivers first before installing the new ones.
I installed this on a new system that was running the basic Microsoft driver. The touch pad wouldn't work after reboot, but I rebooted again and now it works.
Just in case anyone else installs and was wondering what's going on.

I have tried unsuccessfully to upgrade from touchpad driver v7.0.3.5 to v7.0.3.9.
I tried to remove the Elantech software and the 7.0.3.5 driver via Device Manager, I was told that it had been uninstalled, and I was then prompted to restart the computer in order to complete uninstallation. But when I restarted the computer, the Elantech software and the 7.0.3.5 driver were still present and so I repeated the process. After uninstalling and restarting the computer for a second time, they were still present. I went ahead and downloaded 7.0.3.9 anyway, but it would not install.
Would anyone have any idea what I may be doing wrong, or be able to give an idiot's guide on how to perform this upgrade please ?

To uninstall the touchpad driver:
Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs
Remove ETDWare PS/2-x86 7.0.3.x ......
Then install the updated driver.

Remove ETDWare PS/2-x86 7.0.3.x ......
Thank you dougeeebear. I had previously checked Control Panel, but could find no reference to Elantech, I didn't realise that was it.
Once I remove that and then download 7.0.3.9, should it auto-install ?

Unzip it and run setup.exe

Thank you dougeeebear, it seems to have been successful this time thanks to your help and instructions.

just use the one from support.asus.com it works well, and supports all the different resolutions such as the compressed mode. i've never had any issues with it.
anyone got any evidence that the listed (or latest intel driver) is in any way better?

Yeah i updated to 1206 bios, but no noticable difference. i've not noticed any difference since 0901 bios which seemed to enable hyperthreading.

I couldn't have Aero until getting the latest drivers, also it made my performance rating higher in Vista. So I would think that in XP It would help performance too.
I tried using the newest video drivers w/XP Pro last night. My ONLY (but most important) benchmark was to see if it would let me successfully run a Hauppauge USB HVR-850 Analog/Digital tuner (the original drivers gave jerky DTV, even though CPU usage was between 60-75%). The new drivers were somewhat worse, and, oddly, I started to lose audio after it played for just a few seconds. Even on non-high def channels there was playing issues. The 'performance' setting did not matter, nor did having it run on AC (vs battery).
I have since gone back to the old drivers even though they do not let the tuner work properly. I am guessing the video chipset/memory is not sufficient to handle the stick's output.

What kind of N speeds are folks getting with 1.1.2 and 1.2? I'm getting 135k with 1.2, but others here have suggested that 1.1.2 will do better. Thankfully, I'm at least not having any of the disconnect problems.
