Re: Succesfull software and game installations

I sucessfully installed and now I work with Autocad 2004 and Archicad 9.
I use Autocad 2004, because it doesn't require Framework and the size of the installed program on my 4g ssd is about 170mb.
Archicad 9 runs well too - I tried some drawing and afterthet some photorendering with Lightworks Rendering Engine. For viewing the 3d model i used OpenGL, which also worked fine. Archicad took about 200 mb on my ssd. But my suggestion if you are planning to use your EEE for architectural work is to install 1gb or 2gb of RAM memory:)
Here are some screens from my EEE:

1.Archicad in action:

Re: Succesfull software and game installations

autocad!! that's a new idea!!
not really good for everyday work, but I see the point of directly drawing the plan onsite when measuring some place --> no second visits to check something you forgot, or why something didn't add up

Re: Succesfull software and game installations

My EEE is up and running so I can try specific games out if you guys want, provided you give me a link to the demo or something. I've currently tried Halo and Morrowind and I'm going to screenshot them to give everyone an idea of how they run later after I go to work.

Re: Succesfull software and game installations

Streets and Trips 2006 works fine, even though the box says 800x600 required. Disabling toolbars and resizing the left panel leaves lots of room.

EEE + Bluetooth module + BT GPS = car navigation system extraordinare!

Re: Succesfull software and game installations

have yall checked out the overclock thread? It tells how to run at 900mhz, which is t really overclockjng because that is a selectable speed. This yielded about 35% speed increase in crunching numbers vs 630mhz. We should all run at900 for these, it really helps. My e is in but I can't play with it till later this week. I can't wait to play some games.

Yeah, but some games detect overclocking software and get mad so they won't start. Halo did this to me, and I've heard Fable does it too.

My research so far:

ZSNES: Works great in a window, no matter how I do it it won't accept 800x480 or any fullscreen mode
Worms: Armageddon: Crashes on boot, is there a way to force 800x480 res? can't find anything.
Nesticle: Works great, defaults into 800x480
Ragnarok Online: Strange, it works on a crappier laptop than this one, so I thought this was a shoe in. When I attempt to run the game, it says "ragnarok.exe is not a valid win32 process"
Lunar Magic: Works like a dream, resolution is perfect in Fullscreen
Zelda Classic: Works great, use this command line option  - "-res 800 480 big"
Zquest: Works great, a few strange problems with Zquest that I'm still tinkering with. large mode forces 800x600 which sucks.
Steam/HL1 mods: Still need to test
Daemon tools: Works great

Hey, my RO statement was completely wrong. The install was bad. I would suggest installing the game onto an SD from your home PC, and then putting the SD into your eee.
Im trying steam tonight. I'm going to be working with some of the W:A devs to try and make W:A work on the eeePC in the next version! how cool is that!

Thanks for convincing me to get an eeePC!

Really?!?!?! That's great. I was really disappointed by your first statement that it wasn't working since this was the ideal game I had in mind for the Eee. Fantastic game!

Re: Succesfull software and game installations

I had issues with Audacity 1.2.6 under a mostly-clean XP SP2 install, and had to install the latest beta instead which appears to be working OK so far.  It would crash upon launching.  Anyone else have this issue?

How was it installed? USB cd drive? That drive still plugged in and the same drive letter?

I agree. I made a stink on the forums, and this guy who turned out to be a dev asked me if I wanted to waste some time on it, and after I told him yes, I was invited to be an alphatester for that specific problem.

I did some more testing, Half life doesn't work without a memory upgrade, as far as I can tell. I keep getting out of memory errors. I'll retest after i get my 2gb stick. Steam was also a little **** about installing onto a removable device, so that was out.

Yep, installed it on USB drive and right away tried to play it after installation with the disk still in.

I just did a bunch of updates to windows (and ate up a bunch of space in the process, but that's another topic) so maybe it will work now.  I'll try to reinstall.

Re: Succesfull software and game installations

Uh, nevermind, as far as I can tell, doesn't let you combine.

ALso, Half-life works on the stock ram at 900mhz when I quit most of my running applications - namely, zone alarm. I'm going to look into forcing 800x480 on it.

Re: Succesfull software and game installations

RF Online - Works - But 10-15 fps with all low settings

Portal - Crash at mid of the game - 800x480 - 10 FPS

CSS - Works - 800x480 - 10fps

TF2 - Only start menu works - 800x480 - Cannot even get in the game.

Fraps - 100% Works - A good software to check FPS

CS 1.6 - Works - 25-35 fps

i ran all this games from external HD.

Re: Succesfull software and game installations

It was already mentioned that Serious Sam 1 runs on the EEE.
Here you can see a video of it made by a german pc magazine: http://www.pcgameshardware.de/?article_id=622105

Looks really good I would say.

Re: Succesfull software and game installations

Alright, more testing.
Lords of the realm 2: Won't work, errors with mounting the disc ISO, might work if you carry around a CD drive - I plan  to try more stuff, so this could change.
Frets On Fire- In testing, should work, having trouble forcing 800x480. It has to work though.
Half life - still working on 800x480.

Re: Succesfull software and game installations

Close combat's 2 to 5 work no problem. You do need to a screen size of 800x600. This means vertical scrolling is required to see the info bar.

One EEE + three OS's (Xandros, Ubuntu and XP) = A whole lot of fun.

I'm going to give Command and Conquer RA2 a try and report.  Fairly simple interface, but all the scrolling might get to be a bit much.
