Re: Succesfull software and game installations

i think everyone is running 630mhz... that should be assumed.  A agree about graphic setting, usually if i say it runs great that means no need to lower graphic settings from default.  About cd checks, i can say ut1 and tribes 2 and quake2 all have no checks at least with latest (official) patches.

Re: Succesfull software and game installations

Can someone try Halo PC or Halo Custom Edition? I know i've gotten halo pc to run on a slow laptop with everything set to low. So it might work.

The eeePc is still very sweet. Hopefully I can figure out how to get one before xmas. tongue

Re: Succesfull software and game installations

I am really interested to know if C&C: Generals runs at a decent frame rate on the eeePc if anyone can oblige ? It will probably need an ini change to support 800x480 I think as it doesn't even support the widescreen res on my main laptop via the game options menu.

Cheers.

I too would like to know. I just ordered a Black EEE today so if no one else tests it out before then you can be sure I'll test it and take screenshots. Halo does meet the minimum requirements to play on the EEE... but just barely..

I would think not given the 3d capabilities and power it requires, I think the minimum spec is something like 1ghz? If anyone can get it to run though, it would be awesome.

Re: Succesfull software and game installations

yea, but doom3 runs at like 12 Fps on a stock E with 512 and prolly running @630 MHz, so generals might also run, it only needs like mid 20s to look smooth

Can someone try ut2004? I have very limited download access and my E should be here Monday, I'd like to spend my fisrt week of downloading on something that will run

Thanks!

Also don't forget that the EEE cpu is more modern than the P3's the specs designed for. In fact I've found performance to be equivalent to about a 1.2Ghz machine if not better. Also the extra RAM helps a lot. I'll see If I've got time to give it a try tonight.

One EEE + three OS's (Xandros, Ubuntu and XP) = A whole lot of fun.

Has anyone gotten around the CivIV issue?  According to someone in another thread, it lacks 800x480 support.

Not sure but I posted a fix for Civ3 in this thread. Someone care to test it?

Re: Succesfull software and game installations

I tried StarWars KOTOR.    Its very sluggish and runs at 800x600.  No optimizations seem to help since its cpu bound (630mhz... it wants 1000mhz)  Since the game it kind of turn based, it is playable and certain areas and cutscenes run smoothly but mostly in open areas and combat, movement and actions are clumsy even though your just issuing commands.  I'd say it bogs down to 2-5fps in rough areas and then goes up to maybe 15-20 is smooth areas.  All this and i am running 1 gig ram.  Changing texture pack to low didnt speed up (at least with 1gig ram).  The installation to sdhc took about 2 hours and used up about 3.7 gigs of space!  Level load times are long and there are delays going into menus.

Having said all that and my having uninstalled as i write this, if you have cpu running 900mhz and love kotor, and have an extra 4 gig to spare on sdhc, it will work and possibly well enough.

I expect morrowind would run better since theres a good fps optimizer program i tried a while ago from some russian site (this should be same file http://elderscrolls.filefront.com/file/ … izer;55245) that will not only set to 800x480 mode but dynamically adjust draw distances to keep framerate acceptable.  I installed it on older asus r2h which ran at 800x480 with 900mhz cpu and it ran pretty good, not sure if the 630 would still be good but probably better than kotor.

Re: Succesfull software and game installations

I'm watching the original Half Life intro sequence now on my EEE. Runs beautifully at full screen in Direct3D at 512x384. Also runs well at 800x600, but the vertical field of view is a bit shortened, thanks to the EEE's 480 vertical resolution - still very playable though.

Had a go with OpenGL, which gave more resolutions, but it crashed the whole machine halfway through the intro sequence as soon as I touched the mouse.

Now if only I could find a portable version of Half Life!

Re: Succesfull software and game installations

Did you patch halflife to latest version?  Or try forcing it though .ini file to 800x480 resolution?

Is there a way to change the resolution in HL or Counterstrike to 800x480?

Thanks,

CPD.

Re: Succesfull software and game installations

I couldn't see how to force the resolution anywhere. There is a config.cfg file which has X and Y resolution settings, but these don't seem to have any effect.

Am running Half Life 1.1.1.0 by the way.

It's still totally playable at a lower resolution though - runs perfectly!

Using etch repositiories, I couldn't get nethack-x11 to work but nethack-qt seemed OK, but too cramped. The console version was fine obviously smile

Re: Succesfull software and game installations

My research so far:

ZSNES: Works great in a window, no matter how I do it it won't accept 800x480 or any fullscreen mode
Worms: Armageddon: Crashes on boot, is there a way to force 800x480 res? can't find anything.
Nesticle: Works great, defaults into 800x480
Ragnarok Online: Strange, it works on a crappier laptop than this one, so I thought this was a shoe in. When I attempt to run the game, it says "ragnarok.exe is not a valid win32 process"
Lunar Magic: Works like a dream, resolution is perfect in Fullscreen
Zelda Classic: Works great, use this command line option  - "-res 800 480 big"
Zquest: Works great, a few strange problems with Zquest that I'm still tinkering with. large mode forces 800x600 which sucks.
Steam/HL1 mods: Still need to test
Daemon tools: Works great
