I was going to install some sequencing software on my little Eeepc then realised hell.. no line in socket, why the hell have they given me
a mic socket when this thing already has one built in. Does anyone here know the motherboard well enough to show where i might
solder a line in socket too? I plan to use the rubber filled socket on the side as a good host or rewire the mic socket..
Anyone help in this area?

Sorry if you've checked this already... Do you know for sure that the mic socket does not double as a line in socket? I thought some devices could auto detect.

why not use a usb audio interface? you'll get better audio quality and better monitoring off it than the headphone jack. ive tried to monitor off the headphone jack and its horrible, i can hear when i touch keys or just touch the eee in general in my heaphones.

you can easly revert mic-in to line-in. I think you just need a resistor... google it. you can built the circuit inside the circuit.
only problem: you wount get stereo.

Have anybody checked to confirm that the mic socket is in fact only mono and does not accept line-level audio as input?
Sorry if I am missing something, but I wouldn't want to make assumptions.

it's a condenser mic. I'ts mono. it will accept a line-level audio as input with a very simple circuit. google it.
I just dont think it's worth it. Get a usb thingy.

Well, I've recorded stuff with the line out from my Hi-Fi, plugged into the mic socket of the eeePC (701). Definitely stereo, and good quality with no mods.

Thought that might be the case. Pays to check these things out before picking up a soldering iron ![]()
The onboard sound on my desktop is the same - mic socket doubles as a line in socket.

Please add this information to the Wiki - it's a great find!

I've updated this page with the info:

It probably also goes without saying that the green port can act either as a stereo line-out port or a headphone port - the only difference is impedance really; there's no reason I know of that this device wouldn't work fine with both. Anyone confirm?

Yes, I use it as line out (I kind of assumed these sockets would be just like any other laptop). Got my entire music collection on an NAS drive, on the wireless net accessed via amarok, line out to the hi-fi, and it sounds great - especially as the eee is so quiet and unobtrusive.
