Eee line-in/mic-in question

Ok, first of all I couldn't figure out where this topic would fit best, so here it is in general, move it iff you would like (mods).

My Eee is a 4g surf running Windows XP with 2GB of ram.  I of course have all the windows drivers loaded.

I have been trying to use my Eee as a carputer, with mixed results.  The audio output to my amp sounds superb, but audio piped in through the mic input is way lower than the volume level of anything else originating from the Eee.  If I turn the windows microphone input level to max and turn on microphone boost, it gets close to the level I would want, but it horribly distorts the already low quality XM signal.  I have tried using the audio control panel from the driver to change the input setting from mic to line-in, and played with the volume settings, but they don't seem to have any effect at all on the volume level.  Does anyone know of a software solution to this, or is it likely going to require extra hardware?

One other thing I would like tomention is tht the XM adapter is plugged directly into the acc+ line, where the Eee's custom built PSU runs directly off the battery power, though they both have the same ground.  I ended up needing to get a ground loop isolator due to issues with a quite loud high pitch whine from the XM in relation to how fast my engine was going.  Not sure if this would affect anything but I wanted to put it out there,

here is my post over at mp3car.com for cross referencing http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/car-aud … ost1202552

Thanks for the help

Re: Eee line-in/mic-in question

It would seem to me that the impedance of the audio output device does not match the impedance of the microphone input device, hence your lack of level. You need to check these impedances.

Do you have any suggestions on how I would go about this?

Thanks

Re: Eee line-in/mic-in question

I have the same problem, I tried a few mics and the recording volume is still ultra-low. I assume some kind of driver issue since even using the input its really really low in volume. :(
