lordfish or anthonyda if either of you could verify some of those steps, that would be great.
BTW, I appreciate all of your help finding these bugs, especially the non-english EEEPC bugs ![]()

Yeah, now it does work for the download.

work:
- fix_tweakeee
- changing default console to konsole
- Clock Format
- Asus Launcher Themes - download work smile
still there
- SOS Smilie
- SCIM Input
nice work, thanks smile
Thanks so much for verifying this.
I figured Tips Smiley would still be there. I remove it by searching a Regular expression in the ~/.icewm/toolbar2 however I suspect that your european version of the eeepc has slightly different text in there so the regexp isn't finding the line. If you could paste the output from this command
cat /home/user/.icewm/toolbar2
SCIM input isn't being removed? I know for a fact that this actually requires a restart of X/ or a reboot of the eeepc. Did you try a system reboot and see if scim is now removed?
Thanks.
Great to hear that these bugs are now ironed out. I will get working on some goodies and improvements for 0.3 now ![]()

sorry, the SCIM Icon are gone after X-Server restart

hello, I'm using an italian EEEPC
tweakeee doesn't start...
I then started fix_tweakeee, and tweakeee didn't start again...
I had to download (and install)
http://update.eeepc.asus.com/p701/pool/ … 1_i386.deb
before I can start tweakeee

Yes. I was notified about this on my website and rest assured, I have added it to TweakEEE 0,3 which I'm currently working on.
Thanks again for the notification. Out of curiosity, what region EEEPC do you have?

Hi marf, most parts of TweakEEE are working fine on my german 4G. As described above, the smiley is still present, but that's not a real bug. I'm sure, you'll fix it in the next release. Just right now the ASUS guys show the next generation 3E at the CeBIT at Hannover. Some pictures can be viewed at the german blogsite eeepc (http://www.eee-pc.de/2008/03/04/eee-pcd … ebit-2008/). Bad news are, that ASUS cooperates strongly with Microsoft, what means, that the newer 3Es will come with a bundled optimized XP. Shame on them.
So, in my opinion it is now more important than before, that guys like you hold strong and go on with that excellent work. TweakEEE for me is handy, easy to use and that peace of software, the ASUS-guys have missed to implement.
I can't wait to see, what you're planning in the section "software". It drives me crazy to install a simple backgammon-emulation... (no deb-package available).

No 0.3 isn't being released yet, those of you reading this with excitement
.
Good to know the software is being used. I don't want to give anything much away, but 0.3 already has lots of new great features, as well as fixing some old issues (SoS on european versions). I've also added a 4th tab that will be fully implemented in 0.3
. And for software tab, I will be implementing basically automatic install(and remove I think) for software.
One thing I have planned is lets say you want google earth installed and working with an icon. Google earth is a 40+MB file, so I don't want TweakEEE to handle the download of the BIN. However I want to implement an install button, which pops up a gtk.FileChooserDialog. The user selects the Location of the 40+MB bin they already downloaded, and then TweakEEE proceeds with the installation (of course a prompt for the google installer will occur). Then when it is done installing TweakEEE will automatically apply the internal LCD speed fix as per the eeeuser wiki. After this it will put an icon in the Internet tab, and restart asuslauncher (not closing programs).
So I basically want to streamline installs such as this, and that's how I imagine google earth being installed, and shouldn't be too difficult to implement (will use repos to install software as well). If you have software requests to the tab don't be shy to add them, and I'll look into it and see if TweakEEE can somewhat automate the process.

Marf, I notice that I cannot right click an Icon to find out its properties like what version is tweakeee that I have. Can right click be added? Or am I doing it wrong?

I was trying to go to slep when this arrived, so I had to play with it. Thanks marf!
It looking good. Do you have a list of all the features, so I can stick them in the Absolute Beginners guide before this program makes the whole concept defunct ![]()
Offline
yah all the features are either on my wiki post, or the opening post.
If you are talking about a Complete features list, and perhaps guide (The program is getting large enough that it probably could use a guide itself), then no I don't have one created. I'd always be willing to do one, but it will take me away from making updates to the program, so I welcome a community member to make a draft, and I can read it/revise it.
before this program makes the whole concept defunct
Well.. I don't plan to replace emeditor
, that still is a great program. In fact I'll probably have an installer for that with my next release. But yes, I really want TweakEEE to basically be an All in one, or as you described it "Swiss army knife" program, where if there's something it can't do, it will install the program for you To Do it. ![]()

Just tested new version on 0.0.3 and found some bug.
TweakEEE is now 2 time on the easylauncher menu, because I installed it before.
Downloading/installing application and cursors on non european version are OK.
We can add some feature about power management but is there an "disable" feature ? It seems to missing it.
Also, is that me or Mercury is totally useless ? It's like the console..nothing more. Did I missed something? Oh and I can't uninstall it from tweakeee (I guess i'll have to see my friend called synaptic)
Offline
Haha, I guess I could include an uninstall mercury button. However I really like the program because its fast, it doesn't only open console stuff but you can open documents, pictures, music that is within your /home/user directory because it Indexes all of that in mercury.dat. So lets say I have firefox and 5 other windows open. I don't want to Minimize them all to desktop, but I want to open lets say a document of mine in /home/user/My Documents/My Resume.doc With mercury you would just press Ctrl + Space, and type in My Re, and it should show you a list of options to choose from which can include programs that start with My, Music, or whatever the update-database script found in your /home/users.
In the meantime, if you want to uninstall just enter
rm -Rf /home/user/.mercury
But honestly Give it a try. Read the following which was taken straight from the README.txt included with mercury
By default the script will index:
* all executables in your home directory
* all executables on the search path
* all documents and spreadsheets in your home directory
* your Firefox bookmarks
You can edit this script to include other locations as required,
File Association
======
You can access documents directly through mercury. Say I have a spreadsheet
called accounts.xls, then, provided it's in the mercury.dat file, and the
mercury.cfg file contains the line
extension_xls=oocalc
(both enabled by default) then if you type 'acc' into mercury, it should
find the accounts.xls, and, when you run it, by dint of the
"extension_xls=oocalc" config line, mercury will open it with Open Office.
Secondly, when you say it is two times in Launcher Menu. Do you mean it is in the Start Menu twice? or it is in your Settings Tab twice?

Have you downloaded EmEditor? Makes it very easy to delete the second icon.

Deleting the icon isn't a problem for me, but it's a bug. There must be a prompt to ask to the user if he want to add the icon or not.

What, like downloading and running Tweakeee? If that is too difficult, what are you doing on this thread?
