Re: The 'Playable Games on the EEE' Thread

I got Half Life 2 Episode 2 running from an external USB drive, predictable it was unplayable, around 2 frames per second.

Re: The 'Playable Games on the EEE' Thread

Sorry about the delayed response folks, but I've picked up the flu, and squinting at a 7" screen isn't high on the to-do list as I've got my day job as well. wink

ChadRioux: What about steam? Anyone?
You're going to either need a very large SDHC card and a lot of patience, or install Steam on a network drive. Other than that, I don't see why it wouldn't work at the fundamental level. Whether the games give playable framerates or not is another question entirely.

netomx: so no fix on Starcraft and the screen?
I haven't tested Starcraft on mine, but it's possible that the screen-scaling options got fixed in the 0401 BIOS. I'll try tonight if I get a chance.

Love this little machine, I had to put StarCraft on this guy ... only takes up 115MB of installation space, but the iso of BroodWars is 609MB =\

StarCraft runs great but the only problem is the screen, instead of stretching the image it pans to the left. StarCraft's original resolution is 640 x 480 so it leaves a big black bar to the right of the screen. I tried finding ways in the Intel GMA software to either center it or just stretch the image...still no luck sad

Sorry about the bad quality images my digi cam died so I'm using a Nokia 6300 cam =\

LoL yeah I do that for all my laptops, normally I put 4 on each corner =P

As for StarCraft, I still haven't found a way to center or stretch the image although I'm still using 0204 bios...is there a flashing program I can use to upgrade to 0401? I have the rom file.

Delta force task force dagger doesn't work. Problem with working out redraw (Z-buffer?). Latest driver and updates.

One EEE + three OS's (Xandros, Ubuntu and XP) = A whole lot of fun.

I remember check out an intel website about what games the GMA900 can handle, and all it said for farcry was "Will experience a bad framerate"
When i get my eee ill be sure to install some "benchmark" games to give ya guys a handle on what it can handle.  From what the specs read, it should be able to handle at least up till UT2004.

I got tremulous running under Xandros. Framerates pretty low though (between 15 and 30 usually).

Re: The 'Playable Games on the EEE' Thread

any rpg? like... morrowind!!!

cant believe neverwinter nights is working! did you try to put all the setup at minimum with no shadow..?

I will wait a bit for see if they release an update in january but you can be sure I will buy that little beast soon enough! yeah 10" screen would be so fantastic!

EDIT:

found this;

What will Intel 950 GMA will play?
Ok, I've found this list (thanks to dell guy too), as it is, Intel's chip is not that bad for older games:

Intel GMA 950: http://www.intel.com/support/graphic.../CS-021400.htm

Intel GMA 900:

http://www.intel.com/support/graphic.../CS-020153.htm

It says it will play City of Villians, Doom 3, Fable, RCT3, WoW, Guild Wars, HL2(on GMA900 and as GMA950 > GMA900 i guess its playable on both) and many games, The Lord Of The Rings, Many star wars games and so on.

Re: The 'Playable Games on the EEE' Thread

World of Warcraft works if you add RAM. 512MB doesn't work, 2GB works, dunno about 1GB. This is without a swap file.

Re: The 'Playable Games on the EEE' Thread

Anybody tried WarRock? www.warrock.net - free download, should be similar to farcry but tends to put more demand on the cpu rather than the graphics card in my experience at least!
