Development of EEEPC Tool v2 has started! Please see THIS post for more details.
Well it's time for me to release my variation of the EEEPC Utility.
It's not really cut and paste from KKJJ's Delphi code, but I simply used his general idea.
The program is written in Win32 API only, meaning it has no dependancies on anything, uses very little resources and it also has a small size executable and small foot print in memory.
Please click the readme link, it has a lot of useful info on this tool! For example how to get EEEPC Tool to use less than 1MB in RAM.
Version 1.0 Beta Build 736 - 19th March, 2008
- Add: Memory usage monitor. Suggest you delete the old OSD.ini.
- Fix: Visual bug with OSD when changing resolution.
- Fix: Very small memory leak. (Unnoticable for users)
- Change: Compiled using the latest compiler and runtime versions.
- Change: Resolution will only be adjusted if it's different than the current one. (Or if scaling was enabled\disabled)
- Change: After enabling scaling, the setting will "stick" even after a restart.

Some feedback would be nice ![]()
Thanks for looking.

Well, nice!Another choice for all eeeusers!
It seems that eeepc has become a new mod & program platform.

The name change is there for a reason, I'm not done with it yet ![]()

unfortunately it does not work as well as KKJJ's tool - the resolution is changed, but scaling does not work (so, scrolling is necesssary) even though it is enabled. My graphics driver is 6.14.10.4764 - scaling with KKJJ's tool worked very well with it.
edit: I have to correct myself. Scaling DOES work for 800x600 resolution, but not for 1024x768.

I didn't get my EEE yet... the damn post office can't find my package
so I couldn't test everything.
That's a bit strange, as from what I understand you only have to change a specific setting in the registry for this to take effect.
But I'll look into it, thatnks.

ok, I'll try to look into the registry to see if it needs some repair. I'll let you know later.

If anyone can create a nice icon for each of the systray icons I'd be greatful!

About my scaling problems, it gets more weird: After a restart, now 1024x768 works but 800x600 does only work with scrolling. I have repaired my registry but it didn't help. The strange thing is that now kkjj's tool behaves identically. Before I ran the new tool, it was perfect.
Maybe I should reinstall the graphics driver. Which one do you use successfully, guys?
edit: after the next restart, it is again the 800x600 which works... Apparently only one of them can work, and which one it is changes after each restart. As I said, weird.

Are you using a default Intel driver or a hacked driver.

Yep. I'm using the same and scaling doesn't work for me at all at either 800x600 or 1024x768. The screen just flickers like 8 times then returns to 800x480. After a few reboots, it changes to 800x600, but no scaling.

Version 1.0 Beta Build 399 - 26th February, 2008
- Add: Build number on bottom left for easy sub-version differation.
- Add: Show an error message if resolution change was unsuccessful.
- Fix: Write Binary type of registry entry instead of DWORD. (hopefully a fix for scaling)
- Fix: Scaling is never enabled on startup.
- Fix: Resolution settings should now be saved after a reboot.
- Change: System tray now shows current resolution setting.

The Virustotal scan says clean (0/32).

This works great!
I'm using the original Asus XP display driver and everything works as advertised!
Good work, Coolest! ![]()

How do you get 1024x768 scaled though? 800x600 works fine, but 1024x768 does not.

I've installed it and now the only thing I have working is 800x600 scrolling... The scaling stopped working. I'm not happy!

Which drivers are you using?
Did you try to rerun any other app and see if it has fixed the problem?
Also which programs have you used before which worked?

You need to uncheck the "Hide monitors that can't be displayed" box in the graphics setting menu for the 1024x768 res to work.

I just did a clean install of Windows XP SP2 and used the ASUS drivers for everything else. I was able to get 800x600 scaled just with the Asus drivers.
Then, I used EEEPC Tools and BAM! Even if the "Enable scaling" is checked, my 800x600 is not scaled anymore, I need to scroll in the screen. It's now impossible to get the scaled 800x600 back.

New build is out:
Version 1.0 Beta Build 514 - 2nd March, 2008
- Add: OSD type keyboard indicator with adjustable text color (via ini file).
- Fix: "Start with Windows" checkbox is always set, no matter the current setting unless manually changed.
- Fix: Resolution won't change first time after un-ticking "Enable scaling".
- Fix: Depending on keyboard state, at startup some icons don't show Tool-tips.

I'm still working on the OSD, as the original one seems to noticably slow down the system.
I rewrote much of the code, and used windows GDI to display the text (should be the fastest way to draw text on a window).
So far from testing it on my EEE, I get the same CPU usage % both with the program running and without.
The new version will also truely enable scaling using the original Intel drivers. (but it looks like it broke screen-rotation for me, so be-ware).
It will of course give the user an option whether he\she wants to moidfy the registry to make scaling work or not.
From my tests sleep mode works fine with the original intel driver, even in scaled mode the computer comes out of sleep mode just as you click the power button.
I'll see what other parts of the program need to be touched up and release a new version.
If you have any suggestions\recommendations please feel free to post.
