Re: Touch Screen - Where to buy it?

it comes with an extra big shift button which should serve your needs wink

what you get with a touchscreen kit and what you only need is the touch part of a screen so just a plate of some material thats sensitive to touching. If you get a touchscreen kit you should get all you need not sure if you need 4 or 5 wire but i think it doesn't matter but better look at the tutorials again.

You never know if ebay is secure theres always a risk everywhere but if you buy of seller with 99 + % positive evaluations (not sure if thats the right word but you know what i mean tongue) and more than 500 of them or something you have a very very low risk...

Re: Touch Screen - Where to buy it?

Aspirna,
I bought my touch screen from fido-dido999, but if I were to do it again I would buy the kit from kiddshop instead. What I got with mine was the screen, the controller card, and a ribbon and USB cable I didn't need. But good quick delivery. I had to download the driver and instructions from the web site. The controller card had to go either below the RAM, where I put mine, or in the expansion slot which I used for a removable USB drive.
The kit from kiddshop comes with the parts you will need, the drivers, and an instruction video, and for $3 he offers to remove the connectors and cut down the controller board so it will fit under the left speaker. I didn't want to try cutting the board myself.
I installed my screen this afternoon and it is about 2mm wider than my LCD but seems to close ok.
You might ask for people that have used kiddshop's kit to log in and let you know if it worked well for them. Whoever you buy from best of luck,
JDtucson
P.S. Don't use 26 awg wire, it looks like garden hose on my motherboard.smile

Re: Touch Screen - Where to buy it?

fido-dido999 supplied mine, he sent me a 5-wire one first which was too large and cracked. He then sent me a 4-wire panel (for $50), I started having issues with it so he sent me a new controller for $30. It seems the replacement panel was the problem: see here.

So I have 2 working controllers, no working panels, and a big hole in my wallet. I think im going to start again with kiddshop's kit.

Re: Touch Screen - Where to buy it?

I totally agree with JDTucson. I have also bought one from fido-dido999, but it was too useless and I feel greatly disappointed!  The price of fido-dido999 is attractive, so I bought from him. But when I receive it, there is the parts which I don't need and no set up driver & install instructions, that I need to search from web and waste my time!

When I see the feedbacks appreciate Kiddshop so much, I then buy one for my gf. Their kit has included a set up instructions and driver disc with a download driver link (very clear steps!) & useful spart parts e.g. thin flat wire, 2 web cam connector wires......so surprise they send me extra parts FREE of charge! GREAT!!!

Now, I got two touch screens from different seller and I see big difference. The response time of Kiddshop's one is faster! Cool~! And the remittancy also better, which makes the screen look sharp! In compare, my one bought from fido-dido999 needs to turn on the backlight brighter for my eeepc, so bad the battery use up faster than my gf's eeepc. I hate suddenly no battery when I using on the street!

Even the touch screen from kiddshop is a little bit higher price than fido-dido999, but the quality and service is worth for it! So, I have buy a new one from kiddshop to replace my one bought from fido-dido999. "no1knows" said he has a big hole in his wallet, then I think I have a cave in my wallet........

Re: Touch Screen - Where to buy it?

I got my touch screen from fido-dido999 as I said in post #5 above but I have found it to be defective and fido-dido999 wants me to pay $30 for the replacement!!!  All along the top edge, 5mm of the screen is dead. Everywhere else it works correctly. I didn't find the problem until I tried to minimize the window and it would not respond.
I am waiting for another email reply from fido-dido999 to try to get this corrected but I am not looking forward to trying to remove the touch screen, the adhesive on it made it very secure.
Best of luck with yours,
JDtucson

Did you test the screen before you installed it?

Re: Touch Screen - Where to buy it?

outcastrc, Yes I did test the screen before I installed it but I did not detect the small area at the top of the screen that was not working. The rest of the screen was and is working fine. I would like to hope there is an .ini file or something that I could set to fix this.
I saved a screen print of the screen drawing test (which shows the failing area) to a wordpad file but I don't know how to post it on the web so you could see it. Can anyone give me a tip on how to post it?
Thx, JDtucson

Re: Touch Screen - Where to buy it?

Just an update on my bad touch screen from Fido-dido999. He was out of the office last week but contacted me today and told me he has shipped a new screen to me by air at no cost to me. He also has a controller with a firmware mod for Xandros available.
I guess he is earning that 99.9% rating he has on ebay.

Re: Touch Screen - Where to buy it?

I was going to buy my touch screen from Fido-dido999, but after looking at this thread I am thinking about buying from kiddshop.  Does anyone know if his touch screen mod is compatible with the Xandros Linux that is packaged with the Eee PC?  After installation, how easy is the set up?  Does he include good instructions for the whole process?

Thanks

Re: Touch Screen - Where to buy it?

@ColeTrain,
I have posted several times asking if anyone has bought from kiddshop and has the screen working with Xandros. I have not gotten any positive replys. I also emailed kiddshop last week asking if his screen worked with Xandros and I got no answer. From that I am assuming that fido-dido has the only Xandros compatible system of the two. Kidd's comes with an instruction video and the drivers. Fido's does not include either.
The installation is not hard but it depends on where you are going to put your controller, and where you are getting the USB connection. I installed a hub and put my controller below the RAM.
The software set was simple. Just unzip the driver and run it. From the menu you can do a calibration and you are done. There are other tools available but that is all you need to use it.
I've noticed the response time on kiddshop's new screens are 10ms, and fido-dido is at 35ms. I do notice a small lag on my fido screen.

Re: Touch Screen - Where to buy it?

I think I am going to wait a while and try to get an answer out of kiddshop.  Everyone seems to be happy with his screens, and it seems that many of Fido's have issues.  If it turns out that Kiddshop's don't work, then I guess I will have to settle with Fido.  On another note, does anyone know any good note taking apps for Xandros, like for handwriting notes with the touch screen?

Thanks JDTucson

Edit: I just contacted kiddshop.  Hopefully he will answer my questions if he wants to sell a touch screen.

Re: Touch Screen - Where to buy it?

Ok, kiddshop replied very quickly to all my questions.  He said that they have not tested their screen with the Xandros Linux packaged with the Eee PC, but that he includes driver disks for Linux.  I do not know that much about Linux, but does that mean it will work for Xandros Linux or maybe something just like Ubuntu?  I am asking him about his return policy.  I think I might buy from Fido-Dido999.  Are his instructions on his eBay listing good or is there a better guide?  Is there a guide that starts with opening up the Eee PC?
