Succesfull software and game installations

i figured it would make sense to combine all info on wich programs and run on the eee pc in one topic, so that if we want to install something, we can check here if it will run (and sometimes save us a lot of trouble)

Personally i don't have a eee pc yet (will have one in a month, when the're available in belgium) but i am interested to see wich games play on the eee pc and wich need tweaking.

(i intend to install starcraft, age of empires 1 & 2 , creatures, simcity 3000, ... and use the eee pc as a "classics gaming machine")

UP AND RUNNING:

Apps:
*Adobe Photoshop CS3
*ArchiCad 9
*Autocad 2004
*Streets and Trips 2006

Games:
*Age of Mythology : Runs perfect at 800x480 (add to shortcut xres=800 yres=480)
*American Mcgee's Alice (change config file)
*Call of Duty 1 (Runs good enough at 800x480 can tweak graphic options if need more speed) Simple ini file tweak
*Carmageddon
*Close Combat 2 (800x600 - screen panning)
*Close Combat 3 (800x600 - screen panning)
*Close Combat 4 (800x600 - screen panning)
*Close Combat 5 (800x600 - screen panning)
*Counterstrike 1.6
*Deus Ex
*Empire Earth 2 (800 x 600 - screen panning)
*Enigma (Only runs in window... cant do fullscreen 640x480)
*EPSX playstation emulator - gran turismo 2
*EPSX playstation emulator - wipeout 2097 (limit framerate, runs too fast otherwise)
*F-22 Raptor - works only in window mode
*Grand Theft Auto 2
*Grand Theft Auto - San Andreas
*MAME - works  GREAT!
*Max Payne
*Medal of Honor Allied Assault (change config file)
*Nesticle: Works great, defaults into 800x480
*Quake2 (needed arq2 mod for widescreen 800x480 mode)
*Quake 3
*Serious Sam: First Encounter (change config file)
*Snes9x - runs great
*Starcraft (640x480)
*Tribes2 (runs great @800x480 with final patch)
*Unreal Tournament 1 (runs perfectly @ 800x480)
*World Of Warcraft (edit config.wtf to support 800x480 instead of 800x600)

Wow is Q3A that old now that it runs perfectly on a little computer such at the Eee!? I still vividly remember doing a major upgrade to my PC back in the day to play Quake 3. Ahh the times we live in.

I am curious, are you playing that at VGA or WVGA res with a custom modified config?

WVGA - custom resolutions in the Q3A engine are cake. I've posted the config file in the "Official Thread" here:

Re: Succesfull software and game installations

Unreal Tournament 1 (runs perfectly @ 800x480)
Quake2 (needed aprq2 mod for widescreen 800x480 mode)
Tribes2 (runs great @800x480 with final patch)

I have run into situations with games not being able to invoke a fullscreen 640x480 mode.  Seems only games are directx8 or 9 run well windowed at 640x480?  Quake2 was one... which uses opengl for 3d but directx (7?) for input... it wouldnt do fullscreen 640x480.

In some games which tried going fullscreen, i got an intel video driver dialog asking me to pick fullscreen mode but it was missing a 640x480 ... it had lower resolutions, a 640x400, and 800x480 modes (as well as portrait modes)... no fullscreen 640x480.   Since ut1 and tribes do it im not sure what the issue is though.

Enigma (Only runs in window... cant do fullscreen 640x480)
Ballance (Doesnt seem to work at all)

So its a little weird it plays the more difficult 3d games but doesnt do simple puzzle games fullscreen well?

Re: Succesfull software and game installations

so does PS count for this list or should I make my own thread? lol

http://www.newschoolofphotography.com/wp-content/gallery/eee-pc/PSCS3.jpg

this is the load with PS:CS3 and FF running:
http://www.newschoolofphotography.com/wp-content/gallery/eee-pc/task.jpg

I've also got NESticle running:
http://www.newschoolofphotography.com/wp-content/gallery/eee-pc/snap000.jpg

my only issue is because I'm using windows fundamental and not "real" XP they took out the game controller control panel.  I have a retropad USB NES controller I want to get working.  I think I might have that fixed, but the pads at home...  NESticle looks awesome though.  Better than a NES on TV.

if someone could get UT 2004 up and running, that would make a great benchmark, cus even 1st gen mac mini can run that game fine.

Re: Succesfull software and game installations

Just installed Unreal Tournament 1. Boy, was it a game or what? Now I can relive the experience I felt then. The game does run great at max settings and resolution matches. 600MB but of pure enjoyment.

Wasn't there a torchlight mode? That really was a great game. I went into the shop to get Quake 3 but they didn't have any so I picked up UT with a certain about of regret. Never did buy Q3.

Re: Succesfull software and game installations

Delta force task force dagger does not work. The Intel graphic driver seems to messup it Z-buffer or something like that as it never seems to know what to redraw based on distance (Nothing most of the time). The annoying thing is it renders correctly in the radar (But the radar is missing). It may be possible to tweak it to work but no luck on default settings.

One EEE + three OS's (Xandros, Ubuntu and XP) = A whole lot of fun.

FLP for now.  It's fine for PS but for anything else it's a bit lacking (no DirectX, no game controllers etc.).  It's designed for the office environment so they've stripped anything not work related.  I did the basic install so there is more I can do if I want.  I'll be redoing it tonight with more options, then I'll also be trying and nLite version of XP...

As for as the whole pirate FLP thing.  My copy IS legit.  Got it at work via the IT guy to test.  AKA I'm the guinea pig.

I have Maple Story running and works great. I also tried PSO Blue Burst but it only runs well on low setting with frame skip. I think Blue burst will run better if it has the full processor.
