Hi,
This is a site for Australian people.
http://www.ibuynow.com.au/external-dvd- … attery.php
I ordered on tuesday and received on thursday. I used the more expensive express post option though.
Its AUD $52.41
Normal delivery charge is AUD $10.
Express is AUD $20
When you go through they checkout system you are transferred to a site called hkeverbright.com
I got a bit scared but ordered anyway. Searching on the web reveals that many websites link to hkeverbright.com
I'm not sure what this means. If it means they drop ship from Hong Kong, then 2 days delivery is damn fast!

Found one that looks like the on from Frys but at Radioshack.. only 2.5 amps but only 49 dollars.

Right, I've got my EDV007SK Universal Portable DVD Battery. And I've charged it up. Two Questions for anyone who can help:
Do I have to remove the eeepc battery before I plug in the external battery?
I think the charge tip (there are 4) labelled with a 'J' fits the eeepc power socket best. Is this correct?
Cheers.

I originally bought the DVD Mini mentioned at the start of the thread but decided that I wanted something that lasted longer. I've looked into the batteries metioned in this thread and it looks like most of them will work. I ended up getting this battery the Tekkeon MP3450.
http://www.tekkeon.com/site/downloads/dtasht_MP3450.pdf
It rated at 50 Wh. It is more expensive than most mentioned in this thread (118.00 at Newegg), but it has the advantage of multiple voltages, including the ability to charge a 'full sized' laptop. Probably the most unique aspect is that it also has a usb port so that you can probably charge most electronic gadgets that can be charged from a USB port. I plan to use it for my Sony ebook reader and my Sansa MP3 player. According to the info on the Tekkeon site, you can use the USB while you're using the main output.
I just got it and used it last night for 2 hours. The charge indicator had only gone down about a third of the way, although I don't know how accurate it is yet.
Something else to consider.

For Sydney buyers, I noticed all the online shops / ebay seller points to an address in Alexandria (near Redfern station) so I called them, confirmed they had stock and allowed pickup and got the EVD002SA from them this morning.
Charged it for an hour and tested it and it works fine - paid A$52 + A$5 handling fee. Works well and cheaper than the A$99 Aldi battery pack (which kept flickering between A/C and battery).

So, can anybody write up a report as per eeeByGum's test for the Impact BPD 8000mah? Ordered a pair of 2Gs and I wouldn't mind some extra juice without having to wait for Asus to come out with their 6 cell.

I bought the Impact bpd8000 battery pack mentioned above, rated at 9V 8000mAh when fully charged. In the one test tried, it ran my 4G surf (eee battery removed) for about 4.5 hours. So together with the internal battery, I should get about 7 hours of portable computing.
I want one. Coupled with the "extended duration battery" that has been rumoured to be coming out this year, that would give unrivalled runtime. The race is on for the first 24hr EEE no-mains runtime, officialy started by me, right here, right now. Kudos for the first person who gets a 12hr runtime though. Lets have all devices realistically portable ![]()
EDIT: Farnells in the UK sell 10,000mah 1.2v NiMH D cells ![]()

A word of caution: when the battery pack's adapter is plugged in, it outputs 12V, not 9V. Off hand I don't know why, does anyone have an explanation?
Until I know for sure it is safe to apply 12V to the eee charger input, I wouldn't connect the external battery pack to eee when the battery pack itself is being charged.
Do the EDV units do the same thing? Physically, Impact and EDV units look alike, from location of input-output connectors to locations of the leds to the output cable and 4 output adapters. Very likely, they are all made by the same manufacturer, sold under different labels.Congrats!
I got this and i'm not sure if it will work...if it doesn't then it will be the biggest doorstop EVER!

Apparently it doesn't do 9v. (He said so in another thread)

istead of buying another battery that doesn't wuite match up with the eee's input why not check out a company that deals in specialized batts or individual lithium cells and just wire up a "redundant double pack" based on the eee factory batt array? not sure about everywhere else but around my home we have a place called battery warehouse that hase cells that are a physical match for the cells in the factory unit... maybe put a capacitor between the two sources with a home-mage voltage regulator or just use a three pos switch to change source in-line and attach the cells with a cheapy enclosure (modded of course) from radio-shack?
just a thought not trying to sound like i know what i'm doing but i've built similar peices for camcorders.

From their ebay advert -
"Voltage : DC 19V, 16V, 9V, 8.4V, 6V, 5V, 4.2V 16V and 19V DC switch selectable, or 5V USB Output "
thats why I asked.
Maybe its a different version?

as long as you're looking, someone said they use this:
http://www.radioshack.com/product/index … age=search
If you live in the US, it's a benefit that there are so many Radio Shack stores around, and they have a very liberal return policy.
$50 isn't too bad, but it's only 3600 mah.

I'm using the one mentioned above and it works fine for me.

Has anyone ordered from one of the many sites in the UK that (like goofy mentioned) use the same link to hkeverbright.com, and also, worryingly, have excatly the same address and telephone number?

Would that be the Radio Shack one, Kid606? If so, how much time are you getting?
Thanks!

Yes, it is the radio shack one. I get an additional 2+ hours of usage with full brightness and wifi on running xp home. Not sure if I'm using it in the mot efficient way though. My eeepc runs off the external and then switches to the internal battery when the voltage is to low. I always run the external with my eeepc fully charged so it think it's running on AC. I'm sure there are better deals out there online that will give you longer playing time for less. I bought mine at radio shack because it was close and easy to take back if it didn't work. Plus, if I'm in a jam i could by a second one easily at any of the thousands of Radio Shacks in the U.S.
i have this one http://www.radioshack.com/product/index … age=search
You may wan to check this one out for more power.

Thanks, Kid606. For people in the US, I think these are attractive in terms of cost/benefit. 3600mah for $50, 5400 mah for $80, no shipping cost, pick it up at the mall on the way home, generous return policy. Thanks for the info! (Edit: I see on the Radio Shack website that the less expensive one is in the stores; the other is web only)

Thanks, friends, for all the info. After having looked at the items you've mentioned (and finding the more powerful Lenmar on Amazon.com for a little more than $50.US (plus $8. shipping from ANT), I decided to try WalMart.com.
They carry the round Energizer for $30, and also the "iRecharge Universal Rechargeable Battery for Portable DVD Players" for $48. Shipping to your local store is free.
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product. … id=8031590
I couldn't find any real specs on it (e.g. ?mah?), but shipping weight is listed at .8 lb., quite a bit lighter than the Lenmars.
Could one of you experts provide some input?
Thanks -- Mark

I read the instructions that came with my £25 edv.. uncharacteristically.. and it warns specificaly not to use it while charging.. tho the car charger that comes with the edv may charge the eee itself ??? anyone feeling brave:)??
it has to be the best mobile solution though when the battery runs down, plug in the external unit, no need to shutdown to swap batteries.. also when recharging both the eee and the battery can recharge at the same time, unlike eee replacement batteries..
While not as good a result as EEEbygum, mine gave me an extra hour and 45 mins , but I was not being energy saving, and had a usb hdd plugged in , my mobile , and a usb dongle for my cordless keyboard n mouse thru a small hub, and I was accessing the sd slot a lot too... I wanted to see what the worst case was before I took it out to play...
Also as a bonus one of the spare fittings slips onto the output port of the usb to power extra cable for my dvd burner which writes n reads fine without it so I can supply extra power to my swivel hub if needed, and run external disks thru that too
...
ps good luck rivergate.. I think you will be fine..

I just ordered an Impact BPD-8000 and hopefully it'll be here soon. I'm gonna be on a plane for 7 hours next week so I'll give a report on how it does.
