Fabrix case for EEE reviewed

I've uploaded my review of the Fabrix case for the EEE: http://eeepcworld.wordpress.com/2008/01 … e-for-eee/

http://eeepcworld.files.wordpress.com/2008/01/fabrix_yellow_empty.jpg

The review wrote:

The Fabrix cases offer the benefits of padding (which does, it must be said, add a fair bulk to the case), and, optionally, handles, but, most of all, offers a degree of personality which the corporate Asus case cannot hope to match. With the fully-customised sleeve (the more expensive of the two cases here) at approximately £27 at today’s exchange rate, the prices are not cheap, but neither are they unreasonable- these cases are well-made, with solid stiching and good construction. Shipping is an extra $9, so this should be factored in also - however, as the cases come from Singapore, this is not excessive, in my opinion. If you want a case for your EEE which is aesthetically somewhat out of the ordinary, Fabrix could well be the case manufacturer for you.

Hmm, nice cases, if a little geared towards the female market? Or is that just my own tastes...

Re: Fabrix case for EEE reviewed

I like the Fabrix cases.  I almost bought one for a female friend's macbook, but they weren't taking new orders at the time I was looking to buy.  I think the fabric choices are a little on the feminine side., but it's not like I want a masculine HE-MAN fabric pattern.  If they had more gender-neutral fabric choices, that'd be great!

Re: Fabrix case for EEE reviewed

I was excited to see this until I saw that the cheaper case only has that middle flap...why couldn't it be all along the top?

Re: Fabrix case for EEE reviewed

I was pretty tempted by these when I saw a link posted a few months ago, there's a pretty sweet (IMHO) black pinstriped model that I really like the looks of.  But after getting my Eee I discovered that I really liked the sleeve that came with it, so I really didn't see the point in paying the thirty-ish bucks for something that just looks nicer.  Now if there was a side pocket for the power supply and a couple of SD cards... smile

Re: Fabrix case for EEE reviewed

I have ordered a deluxe laptop case in 'black angus' design on thursday. That design is usually only offered for the laptop sleeve. But after a quick email with Fabrixcases they told me that it is no problem to get a laptop case in that design.

Interesting... I ordered a Deluxe Camo pattern case roughly 2 weeks ago, and I can't wait to get it. I'll post pics of mine when I do...

Re: Fabrix case for EEE reviewed

I like their cases too, but I don't want to spend the money.  Instead I made my own.  I am  not a professional seamtress, but I can sew in a straight line.  Here's my first try.  I should get better in time.

Re: Fabrix case for EEE reviewed

I have one of these, It's great.
I bought the simple design in Camouflage pattern.
There is space in there for my Eee, the E220 and my mouse (credit-card style pop-up mouse).
I chose to have the flap along the shorter side as opposed to the long edge, just from personal preference.

No complaints whatsoever, I am very happy with it, it looks good and feels good.

I'm tempted to get a "deluxe" case but I can't justify the cost...my sleeve that came with my 701 is starting to fray...

Ellen - any chance of a how-to? I'm currently making a knitted case to see how that turns out.

Re: Fabrix case for EEE reviewed

Inspired by Ellen... I had a go too. I have written down the pattern/instructions as I went along, although there are a few things I'd change, such as making the flap wider, I'm pretty pleased with my first attempt.

It's ridiculously padded, so if you're tired on long journeys (I know a lot of you travel with your eeepc) you could conceivably use it as a pillow.

Apologies for the overt girliness of the case.

Re: Fabrix case for EEE reviewed

It's pretty easy to  make one, you need 18" by 22" of fabric in the liner colour, same of the outer colour, some thread, wadding, and a shedload of pins.

Took about 4 hours, but I had to hand stitch it because my machine was chewing up the cotton!

(edit: and about 10" of stick and sew velcro)

Re: Fabrix case for EEE reviewed

Just got my fabrix case for it today, and I've gotta say that I'm very impressed. After using the stock neoprene case for a month or two, it's been starting to wear out, and feel a bit thin for protecting my eee, so the fabrix case is perfect for upping my protection of my baby.

Thanks for the great pics.  It looks like it is a really well made case.  Should be quite durable.    That extra pocket for the SD Card (I'm guessing that is what it is for) does it come included or did you special order?

Thanks,

Ellen

The smaller inner pocket inside the big back pocket were technically designed to hold one of those Apple remotes I believe... a typical USB thumb drive should fit well in there. The larger square inner pocket is about the size of a MiniDisc. They came standard with the Delux case, and are optional extras for the standard sleeve. I haven't had any real world usage with it yet, but the fabric does look to be quite good.

Re: Fabrix case for EEE reviewed

it seems like these bags are either floral patterns or Rambo-inspired.
Don't they have any carrying cases that are just ordinary everyday colours?

Re: Fabrix case for EEE reviewed

For those of us who can't sew or don't want to, there is an ebay seller called bag2baguk who is about to offer reversible slightly padded eeepc laptop bags. You get a choice of fabrics by Cath Kidston (stripey, flowery, etc or plain, in various finishes and many colours). Quite expensive for what they are (works out at 42 quid including p and p) but I cannot sew (bad eyes, weak hands) so having someone else make one is the only option for me. They have shoulder straps too - just looks like a baby handbag (or two baby handbags as you can reverse it).
I let her know about the eeepc (she does bags for other laptops) and she was interested to find out that there was a new tiny laptop on the market that might need specialist bags. I'm about to order mine (when I decide what fabrics to choose), I will report back when I get it.
