Funny Incident with Newegg

OHMAGOSH!

I ordered a 4G, standard shipping, from Newegg on Wednesday and was given a delivery date of Friday.  Like all eager kids awaiting a promised gift, I have been drooling with the anticipation of my toy's arrival.  Early this morning, UPS confirmed a delivery on Friday and that the package had even arrived locally.  A few minutes ago, I checked again with UPS again, hoping that I'd see "Out for delivery".  No. Instead, I saw "THE SHIPPER HAS REQUESTED A DELIVERY INTERCEPT FOR THIS PACKAGE / RETURN TO SENDER PENDING[X]".   Can you imagine my SHOCK?  I called Newegg CS and was told that the package was recalled because they had shipped me FIVE 4Gs, not one!.  The CS lady said that they would ship me another, over night delivery, so I would have it Friday.  How's that for customer service, huh?  Well ...

I just checked Newegg and it shows them to be OUT OF STOCK!

I'm trying not to cry.

UPDATE Friday 2 Nov late afternoon

It appears that my 1 4g and its 4 mates made it on to a delivery truck this morning.  So far, I've not received it.  I can imagine what happened.  The driver brought it to the door and was about to knock but scanned the package and saw the intercept.  No knock.  No delivery. Back to the truck it went.  So near but so far. sad

And the replacement that Newegg promised would arrive today is still at step 5 with no tracking number.  sad I guess the weekend that I dreamt (spell checker, why do you insist that I "correct" that word?) would be spent with my new toy will be spent with my family instead.  Well, I guess that isn't so bad, really! smile  smile

I'm still crying.

Re: Funny Incident with Newegg

That is funny because they were popping in and out of stock all morning on Newegg - it was so weird. I'd refresh the page and it would be out of stock, refresh again and voilà, back in stock. I literally ordered three different times this morning, first two got canceled and the third went through somehow. I'll believe it when I see the tracking # tonight. And apologies to all the others who were probably doing the same thing as I was this AM on Newegg and didn't get one (I just got lucky) - these things are obviously going to be hot movers, esp. with all the + reviews out there.

Could the Eee PC be the the uber geeks' "tickle me Elmo" Christmas gift this year? ;-)

Re: Funny Incident with Newegg

Funny... I tried in Newegg and Directron but nobody accepted international CC's, so I tried www.jr.com

Also, the guy who attend me, didn't tell me that I need to send my ID by email/fax, and I payed the UPS 2nd day because I tell him that I needed for Friday, so they will upgrade my shipping to Overnight, at no charge smile

Re: Funny Incident with Newegg

They actually shipped me mine, and imagine my surprise when I opened the box to discover 5.  I wasn't sure what to do.  I was actually planning on selling the extras to friends at half price.  Then New Egg called.  Legally in the state I live in, I could have kept all 5.  The transaction was completed, and I paid for what I ordered.  Morally however I just couldn't justify it.  So when New Egg called, I answered and agreed to send the extras back.  They're paying for shipping (wouldn't have agreed to it otherwise) and they've offered me $50 off my next purchase thru them.  Not sure the $50 is enough to cover the disappointment I feel over not being able to keep the extras, but since I didn't pay for them in the first place I can't really complain.  And honestly they don't have any obligation to give me that $50.  In the end I still come out ahead.  Of course I'd rather have kept the 4 extras than the $50, but who wouldn't? smile

Re: Funny Incident with Newegg

This ...... this is NOT a funny incident.

It happened to me too and when I saw another EEE PC on my order status I canceled the second one because I thought I was being charged for two EEE PCs. Little did I know they were sending it back because there were 5 EEE PCs in a box, but it was too late. Now my EEE PC is coming in on Monday and I am one very pissed customer. A $25 coupon does not console me, I was expecting my EEE PC on Friday and now I have to wait until Monday? This is really testing my patience, I have waiting since JULY and now this happens?!?!?

I am furious.

*edit*

Well, the guy I got angry at told me that I will get $25 off my next purchase with newegg so I bought a 2gb micro sd card for $23. Although I get a free micro sd card out of this whole mess, I still wish my EEE PC would come tomorrow...
...wishful thinking

Mine was the same way and I was worried that there was something wrong with the shipment and it hadn't really shipped.  Then I checked the email they sent with the invoice #, and noticed the tracking link was messed up and didn't include the entire tracking #.  When I copied the tracking # into the box, I can see the tracking and mine is in transit. smile

Mine says it weighs 5 pounds, so I guess I just got one.  I'm glad I don't have to deal with sending extras back or anything.

Another testament to how small the Ee PC is!

I bet you $100 that Newegg's warehouse crew just never even thought that there could be 5 in a box that size. So they shipped it as-is. Anyway that does explain a lot of NewEgg's availability issues.

And major kudos to you for doing the right thing - I know that you can confidently say you made five future Eee PC users very happy (me soon to be included). Plus if you had kept them I can only imagine the warm and fuzzy reception you would have on this forum ;-)

Re: Funny Incident with Newegg

I used to work ** REPORT THIS POST AS POSSIBLE SPAM ** in a warehouse that did bicycle parts -- you could tell when there'd been a problem like this in the past; the warehouse crew were trained to take a big sharpie and write "OPEN BOX, PULL ONE ITEM ONLY" on those particular shelves.  smile

I'm surprised at Newegg for overlooking that.  I don't think I've ever had occasion to call them n00bs before now.

Re: Funny Incident with Newegg

To all you who received five instead of one:

At least you HAVE one now.  I'm the OP and my one (and its four traveling companions) were intercepted by Newegg before delivery to me.  The nice CS lady at Newegg said that they would send a replacement via overnight delivery and that I'd have it tomorrow, Friday.  My account now shows one in step 1, to be shipped by "UPS Next Day Saver", whatever the hell that is.  It is LATE in the day and I'm not at step 5 yet and it isn't looking good for delivery tomorrow.

You who are returning the extra four without bitching are doing the right thing.  You may not be LEGALLY obligated to do so, but it IS the RIGHT THING.  It was an honest mistake on their part and you should not take advantage of that.  Congratulations for recognizing that. smile

Have fun with your new toys this weekend while I wiat two more days crying while pondering the fun I WOULD and SHOULD have had.  Boo hoo. sad

I second the congrats to the people doing the right thing.  Sure, 4 free Eees is hard to send away but you KNOW you would have felt guilty trying to find something to do with them while NewEgg kept asking for them back.
