Hello,
the only thing that the Asus EEE does these days that is bothering me, and its only a small bother as it is, is whenever I attach anything(sd, usb mem, usb disk) I get a window asking me what I want to do about it. Is there anyway for it to just ignore it? I like automounting just fine, but I dont want to have to select between the four options(File Manager, Music Manager, Photo Manager and 'cancel') - just automount it without prompting me and let me deal with it from there please.
Anyway for me to accomplish this?

The wiki Disabling Autodetect for External Devices on Startup
gives information on how to do it for an SD card left in; there may be information there to help you find a way.

Oh I didn't see that wiki entry before. duh. Although, not really sure.. how to apply that to both SD cards, external drives and USB memories.
But it sure is a step in the right direction!

Testing it now........
Ok so it doesn't say anything about the SD card I had in the machine when I started it up this time - great
although, when I plugged the USB external drive in after boot up process was completed I got the usual inquiry.
Just now tested rebooting with the USB drive attached to the machine. No window pops up then.
So, I just need to find a way to .. uhm.. extending this work around to always being there so to say, so that I never have to get that window again.

Looking at what I think actually happens, I think you can just rename /usr/bin/xandros_device_detection_dialog to /usr/bin/xandros_device_detection_dialog.bak.
sudo mv /usr/bin/xandros_device_detection_dialog /usr/bin/xandros_device_detection_dialog.bak
This will stop /usr/bin/xandros_device_detection_dialog running, I think.
If your machine explodes, or otherwise goes wrong, it's not my fault.

Mm, but if the universe implodes, and they knock on my door asking why the sun just went supernova - can I tell them that I read something about this on a forum?..
Gonna try it right away. I was kinda leaning towards that approach myself anyhow. It can't display what it can't find after all.
done it, rebooting to be on the safe side of dantes inferno..
starts up just fine, no smoke coming out - no midget jumping out of the shadows to scream at me...plugged the SD card in..it sees it..no window?... no.. not yet.. nope, no window!
Solution!
Thanks man! That was the ONLY thing bothering me on the EEE, and now with that out of the way, the machine is near perfection :-)
Maybe this ought to be added to the wiki?

I'm happy for it to go on the wiki; but I don't know how big a need there is for this. Actually, I think any bits ofd knowledge like this should go on the wiki as it all helps expand the knowledge. Like teh original wiiki article I pointed you to did not give the answer but led us to it.
I very seldom plug anything into my eee as I link to my desktop PC for most things I need. My big need, therefore, was to find a way of stopping the messages when my mounted network drives could not be found instantaneously. I found the easiest way was to mount them manually via a shortcut linked to script when I needed them.

For what it's worth, you may want to put this in the wiki.
I'm getting the "removable device" window every time I boot up my Eee, since I have a SDHC card semi permanently installed as storage for my graphics. So far, I'm using the easiest solution-- simply closing the window.
