Hi everyone!
I made a simple tool that allow you to format a Usb drive (Usb key, SD card, etc.) to make it bootable to allow bios flashing.
Right now, the following bios are available in the "kit"
EEE 2G Surf (Model 700)
2G Surf (700) - 0129
2G Surf (700) - 0127
2G Surf (700) - 0128
2G Surf (700) - 0207
2G Surf (700) - 0401
EEE 4G and 4G Surf (Model 701)
4G / 4G Surf (701) - 0401
4G / 4G Surf (701) - 0511
4G / 4G Surf (701) - 0703
4G / 4G Surf (701) - 8804
4G / 4G Surf (701) - 0801
4G / 4G Surf (701) - 0906
4G / 4G Surf (701) - 0910
EEE 8G (Model 702)
8G (702) - 0103
8G (702) - 0201
8G (702) - 0404
Please note that this will format the Usb device, so make a backup before!
Please note that since I switche to a 900HA, no futher development or support will be available for this product.

Looks like you did a good job. thanks!
Although I must ask--how is this different from DL'ing the bios .bin file, throwing it onto the flash stick and then pressing alt + f2 to go into asus ez flash to change the bios?
i guess im saying why do you have to format the drive?
--pardon my ignorance.

Sometime, you are not able to "go back" to an older bios.
Like, if you install 0511, you can just upgrate to 0703 with the normal updater or with the ALT+F2 option. And once at 0703, you can't go back to any previous version.
With this, you can! ![]()

Umm just so you know, alot of the 8g (702) came with the 0201 bios which I believe is newer then the 0103. Might not be good or usefull to even have it there.

to OP-
Thanks, that is quite cool. I hate the no downgrade thing- it bit me in the a$$ on my maximus formula after I accidently upgraded to the latest (unstable) bios.
good tool.

You need WindowsXp to create th device. Don't know if it will work under Vista.
Great work. Is there any way to get this to work without Windows? FreeDOS or something?

Anarethos, Thanks loads!!!
I have a 4GB 701 7B that came with 0401 bios at slow speed. I downloaded your tool and upgraded to 0511 bios and tried HiPerformance Mode. I loved the 900mhz but then the fan came on.
Even on slow BatterySave Mode the fan never shut off. It sounded like a mini hair dryer. So I booted up HiPerf Mode and used your tool to upgrade to 0703 bios. Now I have 900mhz, no fan noise, a bright screen, and I'm back under warrantieee. Thanks you made it really easy.

Thanks Anarethos! I used it to upgrade to 0511.

Good effort Anarethos - was finally able to roll back the bios and get rid of that annoying fan issue.
Many thanks,

@Craigness : Mais de rien mon cher (ou ma chère!)
@energie : No, sorry, I forgot to create a readme. Simply Unzip the file somewhere and run "MakeBoot.cmd". It will ask for the drive letter of the Usb drive you want to use and enter it (like, say, f: ). The drive will be formatted and all needed files will be copied on it. Then, put this drive in the EEE, turn-it on, press the ESC key when you see the Asus logo, select your drive and follow on-screen instructions.

Anarethos MickJT found out link that if you kill the bios you can still recover the eee by having the bios file on a thumbdrive and just letting the system boot. does your utility allow you to specify a default bios that it would leave as the 701.rom? in this way it would be able to recover the system even from a some bios crashes?
if not you might add it in.
just a thought.

This won't be a good question here, but I still want to know before I risk my toy... Will this tool possibly brick it?

as long as you dont power off in the middle of it this program should be fine to use.

I searched the wiki for info on the differences between the various BIOS updates, but there doesn't seem to be any such info there.
Is there a location or thread that outlines the various differences? I currently have 0129 and would be interested to know if there's any point in upgrading the BIOS.

We've been trying to get that information for a while. Asus didnt release most of the updates with a readme stating what changes there were.

So far, so good or, so I thought.
Loaded the update tool and then the 0511 Bios and restarted. Increased to 900MHz and no fan noise, lovely and bright.
However the task bar icon showed 'no battery detected'.
So decided to return to 0703. Hitting 'Esc' on seeing the Asus logo on startup has no effect except to place a string of ^[^[^[^[ symbols at the top left of the screen.
When running, the 'Esc' key works correctly as do all the function keys.
Please advise!

Try to press ESC earlier and not once but twice or more. Sounds to me you hit it too late
