There's a very good wiki article abut hw to set it up here...
http://wiki.eeeuser.com/howto:addwindowsprinter
... but it still wouldn't work for me. The eee could see my Windows printer, and I could get stuff to go into the printer queue which I could then see on the Windows PC. The printer would even make some promising noises, but then go into some kind of maintenance mode and not print anything until I deleted the document sent from the eee from the queue and reboot the printer.
After some enthusiastic Googling, I figured out that simply turning off "bi-directional support" in the Windows printer settings fixed the problem. Good old Wikipedia explained to me what bi-directional printing is, and it's nt something I need, so problem solved!
Apologies if this is obvious to most of you, but I figured if I was having trouble getting this going, maybe someone else is too. ![]()

Edit: I'm using a HP Deskjet F300 series printer which Xandros already had a driver for - I initially thought it was a driver problem but was happy to be proved wrong.

Thank You very much for this info.
I shared my HP PSC 1215 printer, connected to my stationary PC, on my windows network and it then installed fine on the eee with the driver for a HP PSC 1200.
However when I printed from the eee the printer behaves just like You describe and didn't want to print at all.
I checked www.hp.com which directed me to http://hplip.sourceforge.net/install/index.html and there it says that my printer and it's driver doesn't support printing over wireless network.
But by unchecking "Bi-directional support" in the printer properties on my stationary PC it now works just fine.
What an exellent forum this is !

thank you for this!
switching off bi-directional support
let my eee print over the network
to the usb printer on a win xp desktop
however it disables the printers ability
to show ink levels/paper jams
the eee will not print unless this is switched off
clicky suggest it might be possible
have not yet found hpmon.exe though
anyone got a copy?
is there anyway of getting the eee to
engage in bi-directional support
or run a script as it attempts to print
to switch it on/off over the network?
clicky thread in beginners linux

Thank you so so much for this!
I've been trying everything to get my EeePc to print using the printer attached to my other PC which is on the same windows network as my EeePc and nothing worked.
This is great! Now I can print using both my HP and Epson printers which are connected to my windows network PC.
Thanks
