You can get Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx LTS final here: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/lucid/release/ or direct link for PC (Intel x86) install/live DVD is here: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/luci … d-i386.iso
After installing, on mine Asus EeePC 1005HA I got almost everything working out of box (internal microphone is working too), exept "Fn" keys. To get working "Fn" keys please follow those steps:
1. Open terminal and type:
-----------------------------------
sudo gedit /etc/default/grub
-----------------------------------
2. Find the line:
--------------------------------------------------------------
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
--------------------------------------------------------------
and change it to:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet acpi_osi=Linux splash"
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. Save and exit
4. In terminal window, type
-----------------------
sudo update-grub
-----------------------
5. Reboot your netbook.
P.S. Boot up time from power on to desktop with connected wireless on mine netbook is ~28 seconds (with default Ubuntu configuration and "Boot booster" enabled).
P.P.S. Just tested mine Vodafone mobile connect HSDPA USB stick (K3565-Z), and it works out of box too with nm-applet
.

Installed on my 1000HE, and everything went smooth. Haven't tested bluetooth (I don't use it for anything), but everything else was great. Easiest install I've experienced so far.

You are not alone. Users of Asus 1201x Eee PCs are also facing Wi-Fi problems. See these links.

I'm not currently experiencing any WiFi related issues on my 901 Linux, but I am concerned with the new powermanagement and utter lack of any method by which I can get CPU scaling or FSB scaling to work like it did in Hardy, or via eee-control. I've been up most of the night trying to make things work and did manage to take care of a few issues, but not this one. Any ideas?

Hmm. I would love to get an answer about this from you, who is the developer of Eeebuntu
I know you put extra-ordinary efforts in making the Eeebuntu as flawless as possible. I would love to hear what are your thoughts on what you just said

Hi kdskamal. I'm not "the" Eeebuntu developer, I'm just a member of the team that provides a very small component. I don't even know that I'm worthy of the title anymore, as I haven't contributed anything significant to EB4 in a while. That said, I cannot stand Ubuntu but that's common knowledge. ![]()
Remember, EB4 is no longer Ubuntu based, it was just too problematic to try to base the distribution off of. Lots of other Ubuntu forks are shifting to debian too due to the amount of issues with it as a platform.

There's still an occasional thing to look at. Kubuntu netbook remix (kde 4.4 netbook plasma shell) is the only thing not dead to me. Second best UI next to Meego; I hope this gets integrated into the main kde desktop before the great Gnome 3.0 exodus coming in September.
I agree XXbuntu still sucks. 1005ha wifi didn't work OOTB with knm and wouldn't uninstall itself completely. I can't believe this is an LTS release. This is linux; you shouldn't have to wait for a "service pack" (10.04.1) to get everything to work correctly.

Just loaded 10.04 NBR onto my 901 Go and as far as I can see everything I use is working straight out of the box. Have to see how it goes long term.

Where else have we to go? Sure, there are issues with Ubuntu, there always have been. Unfortunately this is a situation where every option available sucks, and people are choosing the one that sucks the least for them.
Let's be honest here too, many of the issues people are having are present in all distros, because they have to do with the kernel itself. Switching distros isn't the answer here, figuring out a way to work around the issues is. And to me the best bet for doing that is in tapping into the large numbers of people that currently use Ubuntu and working from there. Splitting our efforts and pushing this distro or that distro won't help any of us, because what are the chances of finding the information if it is spread so far, so thinly?
As it is I keep wondering if some of the CPU\FSB issues I've been fighting may have already been solved but exist in a language I cant read...
--bornagainpenguin
PS: I've already reverted back to Hardy for the time being, so unless someone comes out with a way to fix the powermanagement\overheating\ACPI\CPU-FSB issues I'm going to wait a little before trying again.

While it is true that some of the issues are present in the kernel and aren't Ubuntu specific, most actually are. I moved to EB4, Fedora (work computers), and Windows 7.
EB4 should expose FSB control on your Eee with jupiter-support-eee.
It's a winning combo.

I wouldn't install Lucid at all. I started with 9.04 and was running 9.10 during its alpha and beta stages and didn't run into too many problems, but the development transition from 9.10 to 10.04 has been a lot rougher...lucid is junk. I'm staying with stable 9.10. Tired of all the gotchas, checksum errors and moving of window buttons. I've probably switched back and forth between 9.10 and 10.04 three times now, it's ridiculous.

instead of dealing with all this ubuntu ****, im just going to wait for linux mint to come out with lm9, linux mint is always leagues better than ubuntu, they at least fix the things the ubuntu team refuses to fix.

hmmmm. I've been running Kubuntu 10.04 since alpha 1 on my Eee900 and it as only gotten better with each update. Runs fast and responsive, best ubuntu variant on my netbook so far, no issues to speak of, it just plays nice all along. Don't know why people have so much trouble? Still I only use my netbook for internet/music/movies and for that kubuntu 10.04 is just perfect. Even runs fine on the slow 16GB ssd of my 20G eee900, without any tweaks whatsoever, while Win7 was an absolute nightmare on the same drive, still after all the tweaks in the book.
