Matt 1005HA mod

Hey eee community, check this out - asus eee 1005HA-P covered with black matt film, which is used to cover vehicles, furniture etc..

http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/1122/pc180339.jpg

Didn't like my new darkblue US 1005ha-p was collecting fingerprints so I decided to cover it with matt film. Now it's fingerprint resistant and looks nice smile Then a friend of mine bought this model, in Russia already. Again, glossy surface was becoming dirty very fast. So here is the second 1005ha-p, coverd with black matt film)

How do you like that? smile positive comments allowed big_smile
btw film keeps the netbook in new condition all the time tongue

Re: Matt 1005HA mod

Looks great!

So what is the product name?
Where do we find it?
How difficult/forgiving is it to install and maybe remove?

Re: Matt 1005HA mod

actually i dont know what the product name is, but on the back of the film there's "kpmf.com". I bought it at a specialized shop...
the install process is rather difficult and needs practice, you need to disassemble both screen and motherboard parts in order to fully cover it.
during the installation there might appear air bubbles, but most of them will disappear with the lapse of time

Re: Matt 1005HA mod

Yeah it looks great, but it's really complicated of what I see so I think a easyer solution would be to use a laptop sticker.... I think it's cheaper, even

desktop: AMD Athlon 5000+, ASrock MB, 4*1Gb Corsair XMS2, Nvidia 8500gt, 1*500GB Western Digital + 1*250GB Western Digital, Windows 7 Pro
netbooks: Asus eeePC 701 WindowsXP/ Backtrack 3

Re: Matt 1005HA mod

It's a shame this is such an involved mod that requires skill and know-how - Because I really like the way it looks!

I personally just ended up ordering (from decalgirl.com) a woodland camo skin for my 1005HA-P (I like camo)... Disassembling my Eee PC for a hardware upgrade would be one thing, but I'm not sure I could bring myself to crack it open just to make the exterior look nicer sad

But this solution definitely has a professional look about it... I like it!

Nice work.

Regards,

Bones

I don't get the hate about the glossy cover.

Fingerprint magnet!  Will show scratches more easily!  Calls too much attraction to it under bright lighting!

All not good for something you'll be putting your hands on constantly throughout the day.

So this is a very nice alteration.

Re: Matt 1005HA mod

Nice mod... this looks great!  Two questions:

1. Can this be removed later without damaging the case, etc.
2. It looks like you covered the trackpad & toggle bar.  How do they respond being covered?

Thanks... I will almost certainly try this if it is possible to remove it later.

Looks great!  I'd do it, but mine is white and I can't see any fingerprints!

Re: Matt 1005HA mod

Awesome! smile I did something similar on my 900HA, but I used spraypaint: http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?id=51953 (No disassembly required)

Please tell us more about this matte film! "kpmf.com" doesn't seem to exist. What kind of specialty shop did you get it at? Can you give us the name of the shop, maybe we can just phone them up and ask.

Re: Matt 1005HA mod

well, it is easy to remove the film without damaging the case, it doesn't keep any of the sticky clue like scotch tape...
trackpad responds like it is uncovered, so there's no problem here
you can try to contacting the shop - http://perm.adv24.ru/ru/contacts/
