I spent forever getting ACPI / Black Screen fix / Super Hybrid Engine / Hotkeys working on my EEEPC 1002HA
I finally got it all figured out so I thought I would put the steps here:
*NOTE when installing XP files I right click on the SETUP.EXE and RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR
---------------------------
*STEP 1) Install the new BIOS which fixes the black screen on boot up issue (The one where you have to put the pc into sleep mode then bring it out for video to come up) It is available from the ASUS driver website:
http://support.asus.com/download/downlo … uage=en-us
Click the appropriate category : EEE FAMILY / EEE PC / EEEPC 1002HA/XP then click OTHER for the file category. Here is the info on the version you want to download:
"Description BIOS 1004
Support Win7 OS
File Size 410.49 (KBytes) 2009/10/19 update"
Install it however you want, if you have XP it's easier to just install the ASUS UPDATE FOR EEEPC program and update it through there, also available at the Asus driver website under the WINXP then UTILITY category. Here is the description of the file you want to download:
"Description Eee PC ASUS Update Utility
File Size 4.77 (MBytes) 2008/10/08 update"
*Step 2) Install Windows 7 (Doesn't matter what version, Retail or Beta)
*Step3) All of your hardware drivers should install correctly EXCEPT one device: the ACPI device. You can check it is not installed (Yellow exclamation point) in device manager by clicking START then in the search box type in DEVMGMT.MSC and click on the file that pops up to start device manager and check it out. It might be listed as BASE SYSTEM DEVICE or something else generic.
*Step4) Install the ACPI driver and Hotkey Combo file located here (it supports Win7, thanks to MiguelMP for the links)
ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/asus/eeepc/Ut … e-1_13.zip
*Step5) Install the new Super Hybrid Engine v2.09 located here:
ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/asus/eeepc/Ut … -V2_09.zip
*Step6) Now here is where I was having problems, after step 4 you may be getting an error on Boot that says CAN'T FIND TOUCHPAD DEVICE so to fix this you need to install the Eland touchpad driver NOT THE SYNAPTICS ONE.
Again go to http://support.asus.com/download/downlo … uage=en-us
Click the appropriate category : EEE FAMILY / EEE PC / EEEPC 1002HA/XP then click TOUCHPAD for the file category. Here is the info on the version you want to download:
"Description Eee PC Touchpad Driver
File Size 13.78 (MBytes) 2008/12/17 update"
After that you should be able to use all your FN Keys to change CPU speed etc and should have NO ERRORS when your machine boots up.

Great writeup, hope to transition to 7 this weekend. Any reason you are using the older of the two touchpad drivers? There is a newer one from Apr 09 as well... does that not work with 7?
Thanks!

One thing that I noticed, SHE is not controlling the processor frequency as it did with Windows XP.
-Updated the bios
-Installed newest ACP Driver
-Installed lastest SHE
Whenever I select Battery Saving or High Performance, the processor frequency is always the same. FN Keys are all working with OSD showing up.
Power Options are still being managed by Windows 7 and not SHE.
Hi, I'm also using the lastest Realtek HD Audio Driver and Intel Graphics, they are both available to Win7 in their manufacturer websites.

I just used the ones specified on the Asus Driver page. If there are newer ones please provide a link and I'll add it.

It is quite more easy to install Windows 7 under 0902 BIOS, all the drivers in the ASUS DVD DRIVER works perfectly, including ACPI, SUPER HIBRID ENGINE and everything else....
It took me an hour to reverse the BIOS 1004 to 902 after this bad experience
about someones problem with processor speed..
Install everest or cpu ID, if there's something using the processor highly it will stay at 1,6, if it is not used, in power saving it will go down, but everytime it needs it will go up.
Also system does not show this changes, only especific software.
Another interesting thing is shown at power options in everest, it shows computer comsumption, when you put at highest things it shows 13W, at lowest things it shows 8W.
So that's our battery limitation 38,8W for a minimum comsumption of 8W (that's Asus calculus for that silly stick).

For what its worth, there is a new touchpad driver on the Asus site, but it is not listed on the 1002ha page (not sure why). Under downloads, you need to go to: Notebooks/Drivers/Touchpad (instead of going through the eee section) and select windows 7... and it has version 7.0.5.9. I installed it and it looks/works great... not necessarily any visible improvement, but it is the latest and listed as the Windows 7 version so I figured it couldn't hurt ![]()
