So I wasnt in a big rush and put up with the touchscreen kit from deal extreme being almost 10 weeks over due ... but it finally came ...
Here is the BIGGER new problem, the manufacturing is complete crud.
Not one or 2 but 3 of the included cables were wired wrong. Before I took apart the system I tested and because I didn't see this type of problem mentioned in the 'successful' install threads it took an hour to figure why the touch screen would not calibrate.
With that really cruddy problem solved I proceeded to install the hub ... installed it and tried to test it ... it overheated! I mean hot hot hot. No apparent cause except a bad component. Now it wont work at all and if you plug it into the port it immediately hits 150f
Not sure if it was due to the overheating or the cause of the overheating but you can see some of the solder points on one of the ic chips all bled together
So ... I don't know if this was just a bad board build or what but the overheating aside .. 3 bad cables is just BS. They were not even consistently wrong like you would see if someone got the order confused in their head. The miswire was completely random as if the assembler just mashed in the 4 wires without even looking, or perhaps is color blind seeing as how red and green are the most common color blind colors ...
Also worth noting is that the HUB is the same one used with this other kit from ebay. This thread also mentions wiring issues.
http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?id=75176&p=2
So at a minimum ... dont try to install these kits before you recheck the wiring on all the cables and look over the soldering to see if you have any double solders.
As far as deal extreme ... When I ordered the touch kit I also order a group of other cheapo toys and gadgets , those arrived relatively ontime and their quality was as expected. So I don't want to bash them for more then reselling this product specifically.

Sounds like they sold you a first generation kit, the first gen controllers were notorious for overheating. They should have given you some copper foil to help radiate the heat.
Unfortunately Deal Extreme is like shopping on eBay, every seller is different and some are more reputable than others. You should leave a review on the sellers page to warn others.

I'm not sure which kit you are referring to (7"-10"?), but I'm currently trying to make my Dealextreme solderless 701 touchscreen work, but to no avail. I fear it may be a victim of of the shoddy wiring. Did you eventually make yours work? Care to share some pictures of the correct wiring?
Thanks.

Here's an example of the webcam port pinout...

You'll need a multi-meter to check if the cables lead to the same point, but keep in mind the controller card could have a different arrangement and you'll have to check it as well to see if the wiring leads to the corresponding point on the controller card.

Sorry it was for a 901 but I beleive they list it on the site as a kit for a 900.
Maybe if minor overheating caused a short which then really overheated the board then it might be possible it was a first gen but this isn't just running warm and not working, this is complete short ... like heat a drink up or reflow solder kind of heat. No foil would help. I am more peeved about the wires something so basic shouldnt be so poorly done.
FYI the camera port end of the cable was about the only one wired properly. Be sure to check all ends.

Mind that the Controller pin out can be completely different...
Double check all connections with a multi-meter.

I too was a victim of shoddy wiring on my dealextreme 7" touchscreen overlay.... But a helpful hint on their review forum got it to work perfectly for me...
The problem was that one of the axes on the screen was reading incorrectly and another person said they had this problem and that switching the black and white wires on the touchscreen end of the controller to touchscreen cable was the solution. Worked for me! Now all is well with the touchscreen functionality but I'll admit that I haven't tried out the USB hub yet and it looks like two of the pins on one of the smaller ICs are soldered together... Not sure if this is an accident or not, but I don't think my soldering skills are good enough to fix it.
So, all is well for now, but definitely make sure you test these units outside the case before putting everything back together.
Edit: If BOTH axes are reading incorrectly, try plugging in the ribbon the other way first.

I too had issues with second gen solderless hub interface. The first one I got had one short on one IC that was only evident (for my eyes) taking a hi res picture of the board. I tested the board none the less. When booting the 900A the BIOS recognized the board only for a short time then the PC would freeze. I was most likely taking some chances and after a few minutes just disconnected the board. I have since then received a new second board and will be trying it in the next few days. Dealing with the company though was a pleasant experience. They did receive my return and send me a replacement. The whole process took over a month though. Initially only two connections to the board will be utilized, one to the camera interface and one out to a USB device. Referring to the picture below I was told that the jumper was supposed to be there but the shorted IC was not (looked like a solder drip)

Hmm your board looks VERY similar to mine, except that I have components in the upper right by the USB IN where yours appear to just be empty solder points. To the left of that, where you have your large circle by the USB1 port, I have a coil and another small IC and no apparent jumpers or shorts.... The "short" that I have on mine is in EXACTLY the same spot as your smaller circle. Everything seems to be working properly now after switching the black and white wires on the touchscreen output... However I haven't hooked up any USB devices to it yet... So, we shall see.
Edit: Perhaps that "short" between the two pins on the lower right IC is really the "jumper" that they said should be there.

firstorbit84,
Having a close look see at my replacement its really the same as the above picture. The two IC pins still appear to be joined by a tiny bit of solder. Before I sent the board back I wrote and sent pictures of the board to them. They told me that the large jumper was supposed to be there but didn't comment at all on the IC pins being shorted. I'll give this board a try to see what happens. So I guess this is a multipurpose board (touch screen and USB hub) with different builds out there.

More recent update:
I got the "wavy lines" while overclocking to 900 mhz for the first time today while the new usb touchscreen was connected. I'm not sure if it was just a coincidence or if it was actually related in some way, but I disconnected the touchscreen, restarted, and was able to successfully overclock to 900mhz without the wavy lines. When I brought it back to stock speed (630mhz) I plugged in the touchscreen and it seems to be working fine.
