I was having a hard time using my 1005ha-p outside, but I just sort of dealt with it. Then I finally used a 1005ha-v with the matte screen and wow! was I impressed. It was a complete night and day difference. I just had to have the same thing on my 1005ha-p. So I found a matte anti glare screen protector online and I wanted to share with you guys a must have product!
Its called ViewGuard
1005ha-p on left (glossy) 1005ha-v on right (matte)
dark room lights off both monitors set to brightest settings
window wide open
the light is hitting both netbooks and you can clearly see the difference
After installing ViewGuard
Much better!
I love using my netbook outside now. Its great! not only do I have a matte screen now, but also its protected! It defuses light very good, however in comparison to the stock 1005ha-v screen, it falls a bit short. The stock matte screen on the 1005ha-v screen defuses light better then this protector, but that's not to say its a bad product. If your looking for a "fix" to your glossy 1005ha I suggest looking at this product.
Any questions? I have more pictures and I made a few videos of it, if anyone is interested let me know I'll post them up.
If your interested here is their website

I'm really interested in this..and even more so that it costs only $14.99 from their site. How did you apply it? Is it as terribly difficult as putting a screen protector like on cell phones (i never get them right, air bubbles everywhere....grrr)? I have it added to my cart on their site, and awaiting your reply before i buy.
Btw doesn't the 1005ha have a 10.1" screen? Is there any overlap with the 10.2 matte thing?
Merci beaucoup

LORD!
don't order the 10.2" you need the 10.1 screen
here is a direct link: for the 10.1"
http://secure.buyviewguard.com/cgi-bin/ … EFERERURL=
It is the exact same thing as some phone screen protector.
Here is a install on a iphone of a screen protector, just follow the exact same thing
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-26bGm8c … annel_page
the kit will come with a anti static cleaning wipes make sure you use them! to clean the screen and then the cloth (also included) to wipe it dry. When installing the skin make sure to take your time. Back up and redo a section if you get some air bubbles, don't try and push it out later. Install went pretty easy, but I've never really had a hard time with phone installs before.

Yeah pretty steep! When I got it in the mail I had no clue what it was because the box it came in was bigger then I expected.

HOLY ****. Shipping for a piece of transparent material....ridiculous. Shipping for my 1005h was cheaper lol.

Has anyone tried these protectors?
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/ … dition=new
More expensive, but decent shipping so it actually ends up being close to the same cost :-)
***EDIT*** I went ahead and purchased the Viewguard because either you'll get higher price with cheap shipping or lower price and shipping from Hong Kong or Taiwan. So I just cut the madness and spent $25 on the Viewguard...:-)
****EDIT#2****received the protector today and applied it. Went on smooth, but I accidentally put a small kink in it and it seems I'm going to have a permanent small bubble. SO be extra careful when applying this!! Ok, mine isnt so bad that i'm sending it back but for the perfectionist out there here is your warning...lol :-) It certainly works as advertised and i'm quite happy....

Make sure to take advantage of the coupon code, Also they are giving the screen cleaning wipes and the keyboard/mouse wipes for free right now.
The screen cleaning wipes I thought was going to be garbage actually turned out to be really useful, because they are anti static wipes too. Keeps lint from attracting to the screen, so you wont get lint or bubbles when you install the protector.
I haven't used the mouse/keyboard wipes yet, so I cant comment on it. I have them here, I might use them when I'm bored.

Could we maybe get another pic or two of the two screens side-by-side after the protector has been applied? Maybe even a close-in shot? I've read many times that anti-glare protectors end up eating a lot of the screen's sharpness, and that the end result is distinctly worse than a screen that starts matte. I'm really curious to see the differences.

I tried my best! these were taken w/ my point and shoot digi cam.
Left is 1005HA-P w/ ViewGuard installed. Right is 1005ha-v w/ stock matte screen
I placed a black T-shirt because the white 1005ha-v was messing up the colors.
Close up macro picture of the 1005ha-P w/ viewguard
Close up macro picture of the 1005ha-V stock matte screen
If you look closely the 1005ha-p w/ viewguard is the better quality picture, where as the 1005ha-v with stock matte screen has a stronger grid pattern that is visible

That's actually quite impressive. It's good to know that, even if they stop making matte-screened netbooks in the future, when I eventually upgrade to something else I won't have to endure reflection-induced frustration.
Thanks a lot for the pictures ![]()

Thanks xxraffyxx for the coupon and the pictures. Picked up one and the shipping was $5.85 to NYC. It appears they ship from Colorado and it takes 3-days by ground shipping to NY. The coupon, EEEUSER, was $1.50 off so the total after the coupon is $13.49. The order also includes some cleaning wipes, which is desperately need.
Standard Ground: $5.85
3 Day Air: $10.82
2nd Day Air: $14.28
Next Day Air: $39.79

xxraffyxx - The product works great. I used the anti-static viewguard wipes (twice) as you suggested and buffed the screen with the included microfiber cloth. Application was easy minus one piece of lint, which I used scotch tape to pick off the back of the screen protector. Any chance you can get them to give you a coupon code for other sizes? One of these viewguard things would be great for my 17" laptop.

Sorry I only got the coupon code for the 10.1". Maybe try emailing them directly stating your a returning customer.
IF anyone else is interested the coupon code is good for one more week. ends the end of this month

I purchased this viewguard based on the recommendation of this thread, and I have to say I am very happy with it. It works/looks as expected. I did find the "install" to be rather frustrating. It was harder to line it up than I expected. I do have a little bubble in the upper corner where I kept trying to redo that corner, and bent the plastic very slightly (the instructions say to peel and redo, so I figured it was safe). I have no bubbles anywhere else (the scotch tape is a helpful idea)
I hated the glossy screen. We even had trouble watching movies in a hotel room on a rainy day because of the glare from the lamps (let alone using it outside).

I sent their Customer Service an email seeing if I can get the board some additional coupon codes--hopefully usable for larger sizes. There is also now a direct link to the 10.1" Widescreen ViewGuard Anti-Glare Matte Screen Protector.
