That button is working fine for me with 7 7600, just trying to provide some hope at least it's not dead for everyone...

What drivers are you using? I used the ACPI drivers from this post...

I'm using the 1.0.0.1 version that's actually for the 1005HA from ASUS's website. Don't think I've done anything special other than that, seems like everything is flying right so far anyhow.

I forgot to install the touchpad driver.
The on/off button works now.

Yep, switching to the original drivers for the 1005HA did the trick
