sweet. do you think he would know how to re-assign the touchgate key?

Re: My T91 experience so far

I have a problem adjusting the screen brightness. Whenever I used Fn + f3/f4 to adjust, after a couple seconds or when I moved the cursor to the power icon at right bottom corner, the screen brightness would change back to mid setting. I tried to reinstall the ACPI driver with no help.

I did a fresh install of xp pro and add the tablet functions. Anyone knows how to fix this problem?

Are you running it on battery when this happens? It could be to do with your power saver profile. I haven't really looked into it yet, but on my last eee it would jump to mid settings automatically when unplugging.

Re: My T91 experience so far

Screen brightness problem fixed. I simply reinstalled xp and applied service pack before installing the drivers. Last time I installed the sp3 at last and after reboot I had that brightness problem.

Btw, are we going to have a dedicated area for the discussion of the T91?

New video drivers available as of Aug 10 and they improve streaming video:  http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filter_ … bmit=Go%21

(still waiting for the new T91 discussion area ?)

Re: My T91 experience so far

Thanks for the tip on the new driver download.  I'll try it out tomorrow.  Streaming video sluggishness is one of the T91's big problems, so hopefully this will correct it.

And yeah, I would say it's about time for the T91 to have it own discussion area.

Re: My T91 experience so far

This is a really helpful discussion.  I have been playing with and tweaking my T91 for a few days now.  Suddenly my screen orientation button no longer works.  I can still change the orientation with control/alt/direction key, but not with the orienation button.  Any thoughts?

Re: My T91 experience so far

My screen orientation stopped working, too, but I think for me it happened when I uninstalled some of the crappy Asus software that came with the T91.  I installed iRotate, a small free program, and have it startup automatically.  It's almost as easy to use -- and faster -- than the button Asus programmed.

Re: My T91 experience so far

I also wondered if that could be it as I have uninstalled all the other software and I'm strictly running windows xp.  Thanks for the tip on the replacement programme.

Re: My T91 experience so far

Hey guys, for the screen rotation using the hardware button, just use your recovery CD and install the utility called "touch suite". It is about 6mb. It doesnt come with the touch gate or all the other **** wares, but only for the rotation purpose.

Recently I noticed the ssd keeps reading/writing right after boot. My mouse cursor cant even move during this 10sec period. I dont have much apps in my task bar, just the ususal bt, super hydrib engine, volume, power, and wifi. It is not a big deal to wait a bit, but Im just wondering if it is normal behavior, esp for the z520. Do you guys experience something like this?

Re: My T91 experience so far

@shinji21

Yes, I experience the same temporary freeze-up for 10-15 seconds when booting up, and I too don't have much running at startup.  I don't think it's normal -- I mean, it shouldn't be happening -- but it is not just your T91, as I'm seeing the same thing.  I'm hoping RunCore will come out with a faster and better SSD that we can replace, but it seems from what I've heard that replacing the SSD may not be easy.

@asklown

Installed the new video drivers and they do seem to improve flash video playback, i.e., on YouTube.  Still a little stuttering, but not nearly as much as before.  Thanks for the tip.

Re: My T91 experience so far

What is the chance of doing a motherboard transplant from a 901 into a T91?  it would be fantastic to have a touchscreen net book that swivels and clicks in (as opposed to simply installing a touchscreen), but sacrificing dual 1.6GHz processor for single 1.33GHz would really be a shame.

how similar are the motherboards?

To reply to this, please follow the link -- I am posting it on the hacks and Mods Forum -- it belongs there rather than here:

tanks for the info i kinda did a cleanup & seams i removed too much stuff tongue

on the other hand i am very pleased with the performance i thought it would lag as hell listening to vids and listening to music but nope does verry well
tho i havnt tried 1024x600 vids yet i watched a few 700x500 or so in full screen & i see no problems no lag no pixelisations

mine is black but i see some blue dots in the paint on the lid normal ?
also i took a look under the memory slot there is a battery off switch (neat) and a reset button tho when i tried it i had garbage when i re powered up (had to use the bat-switch (pun intended)
i found a little interesting port : A "debug Con1" port ! :-) me guessing its for servicing ....

T91 = mass fingerprint magnet tongue

suggested project :
-accelerometer
-more HDD space
-install a decent linux on it
-*GPS*
-paint/decals

not really rdy to do those but just suggestions :-)

Re: My T91 experience so far

Got smooth Flash streaming working.

Followed this install guide which creates a XP install disk & integrates the latest video drivers using nLite:   http://www.i64x.com/eeexp.php  (I also have 2 gb of Ram but I don't know if that helps).

I have tried a couple of different things to improve Flash streaming and this is how I rank them:
1)  good - install latest video drivers on preloaded XP
2)  better - install latest Vista video drivers on Windows 7
3)  best - used nLite to create my own XP install disk and integrated the latest video drivers

Re: My T91 experience so far

@asklown

I'll have to try the nlite install when I have some time -- though I don't think I have an XP disk laying around.  Flash is running much better for me with the new driver (though still not perfect), and I have to say that overall I'm liking the T91 more and more as I've used it the past few weeks.  I've had to tweak it alot (3rd part software for inking, right-click, onscreen keyboard, and lots of userscripts and add-ons in Firefox), but it;s really running pretty well.  And I'm getting a solid 4 hours of battery with constant web use and on high power mode.  With wireless off and power save mode I get 5 hours easy.  It gets a *little* too warm after extended use, but not so much so that it's uncomfortable to hold.  Ans while the 1.3 Atom is far from a speed demon, it does the vast majority of what I need it to do surprisingly well.

Re: My T91 experience so far

You can make your own install disk using the CD-Key sticker on the bottom of the EEE PC.  Just follow this guide, it does not take very long:  http://www.howtohaven.com/system/create … disk.shtml
