Just get a Brando screen protector!

Does it actually make the screen look better? From the pics, it seems that it just reflects more light... :S

The world looks brighter now, as do all these brightscreen/clearscreen/whatever displays nowadays. Go to your local computer store and find out that although they do reflect more, it does look more vibrant. It also looks a bit more like a CRT display this way.
(and if you get bored you can peel it off. and wash it and re-apply again)

actually what it did was masking the effect of the antiglare film. antiglare films has texture outer surface so as not to relect light from outside. it also makes screen look a bit dull. most will recommend you remove the antiglare film instead of sticking another piece of something on.
ag film in the process of being removed.
see how shinny the underneath bit is.

I Want to remove my antiglare film , is it difficult , the eeepc screen is a little dull with it on

Quite easy actually. I follow the instruction i found on internet.
you need to know how to open up the fascia (see other sticky threads on that).
the LCD panel is held down by 4 sticky foil strips. you can gently peel that off.
Loosen the 4 screws that holds the control board. the connector is on the back side of it, loosen the fasterner and gently easy the cable out.
The LCD panel is encased in a metal frame. the front panel comes off easily as it's only held down by catches on the side. Insert a thin flat screw driver and gently ease it off the catches evenly around the sides. Out comes the panel.
Look carefully at the panel and you will see the the antiglare film doesn't quite reach the sides of the panel. Cut a piece of paper towel slightly smaller than the AG film. I will go about 5mm short of the sides as the towel actually expands when wet. Put the panel down on a flat surface and carefully align the paper towel on the AG film.
Wet the paper towel from the centre and allow the water to diffuse outwards. Make adjustment to the sides so that it remains just short of the sides. We don't really know if the water will damage the polariser film but it's not sometime you will want to find out. Make sure the wet paper towel has good contact with the AG film. Keep the paper towel just wet enough without oozing for 2-3 hours. Use a sharp flat object and gently lift up one corner. The AG will come off as a piece as long as you apply gentle traction as if you are peeling off a sticker. Leave the panel to dry.
Viola.

that looks cool what happens if you put a touchscreen over that will it make it brighter?

Hello eeeverybody, ![]()
Thanks MarcNL for starting this thread and your great suggestion.
Thanks kaomoo for your excellent contribution.
I have now removed the anti-glare film from my eeePC and I'm extremely pleased with the result.
More info about anti-glare film removal can be found at the following address:

I have a 4wire touchscreen, and the screens looks very "noisy? dull?" (sorry, I dont know the good word in english)
I think it's because there is now 2 AG film.
Is there any antiglare film to remove on touchscreen? or what about adding a screenprotector on the touchscreen?

@kaomoo - do you have any problems with graining? the lumenlab link ddlooping links to says something about "graining" on the polarizing layer.

The question was not directed at me but I hope you won't mind...
I can only notice the absence of grain, now that the anti-glare film has been removed.
I suggest you try the following:
- open a window with a white background.
- move it around on your desktop.
You should notice something like a "superimposed static grain", for lack of a better description.
This effect is caused by the anti-glare film and totally disappears once the film has been removed.
Images on my eeePC now look cleaner, brighter (enabling me to turn the "Brightness" down, saving a bit on power consumption), and can have that "3D" effect that I thought was previously missing.
The only detrimental aspect of this modification is the screen becomes highly reflective (like a CRT monitor).
With a screen of that size I can't see it being a problem for me though.
Having said that, I can't be held responsible if you decide to remove the film and mess-up or don't like the result. ![]()
P.S: I had to remove a fair amount of a "sticky" substance (glue?) off the screen, left over by the film.
I used a window cleaner product which might explain the whole mod being so brilliant. ![]()

@ddlooping
Thanks for the input - I'm thinking that this might be a good mod to do with a touch screen. it'll allow you to drop the screen back a few millimeters and still have some of the brighter effect than when the AG screen is on. I was reading up on the previously mentioned link and saw that there is a possibility of delamination of the polarization filter if soaked for too long or if the water makes it off the AG layer.
I definitely am going to do this once I get a TS.
Does anyone know how this works? does the water soak INTO the AG layer, or does it soak UNDER the AG layer from the edges?

Please keep in mind that the AG film is 0.5mm at the most.

I bought one of these from ebay , not a brando one , a cheapo , it went on ok but left loads of bubbles , I got a bit scared trying to squish them without popping my screen so i took it off , I noticed the screen did look a lot better with it on though , also I noticed that it will stick to the screen without the glue backing , the material is static so it sticks to the screen , my biggest fear in breaking my eee is the screen , I am thinking of placing some kind of hard protection over the screen that lets me still see the screen , I need this as I am planning to use it in my live set as a drum machine/sequencer , the hell holes I play in manchester would not be very nice to my little helpers screeen , any Ideas for a hard screen overlay ?

Sorry, I forgot to include that I was thinking about removing the metal frame and seeing what I could do about removing some material from the back of the lid so the touch screen doesn't crack.
Maybe not a few milimeters, but maybe 1.
I stll don't have mine yet. that would be why I sound so idealistic.

I just removed my AG, no problem, i just had to clean the glue after removing the AG.
Be carefull for the polarization filter, he's easy to remove too ![]()
I'm trying to remove the AG on my touch pannel, but I don't know if there is one ^^

Feyris, have you put it back together yet?
If yes, please let us know what your first impressions are. ![]()

yep I just finished
1st, the AG film on touch panel seems to be the same than the sensitive film. I didn't remove anything
I just turn on the eee 1 time without AG and without touch panel, nice screen, refects arent bad.
But with touch panel it looks weird, some noise on the screen (I had this before remove the AG), but if I put the old AG film I just removed in front of my touch panel, it looks better: no noise, but less contrast/lum.
I'll buy a screen protector monday ![]()

Yes, thank you very much.

All in all, do you recommend removing this when I install the touchscreen or will it just put me in the hole another hundred bucks?
Thx
Dan
