Am I doing something wrong? I keep reading about 2 finger scrolling and back/forward commands with 3 finger swipes, but I can't seem to get any of this to work.
I checked under the synaptics tab in control panel and the only advanced gesture i see is zooming. I really want these multitouch gestures to work. Thanks for any help.

Afaik, the multitouch gestures are history with the new Synaptic touchpads in EeePCs despite the fact that Asus still talks about them in the product pages of 1005 and 1008 series.
Unless there's a downloadable driver somewhere to introduce them...

The loss of the 2 finger scroll,3 finger fwrd/back and rotate seems like a real downgrade to me.
"spinner" scroll and and especially the "glide" part of the synaptic are kinda cool tho-( I used to have a scroll wheel on the desktop)
Why the flub cant we have all the touchpad functions as options for all EeePC 1xxx's?

I found a post on where to DL drivers for the additional multi touch features: http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=1 … topic=8773

The lack of two finger scroll gesture support also caused me much consternation. One option found on googlecode got scroll working but broke pinch to zoom.
Eventually I found a way to enable both gestures as shown here. (NO warranties that this is kosher or will work for you, but it did for me on my 1005HA in XP, and I'd expect this would work with most recently-built laptops with a synaptics touchpad. Probably not a bad idea to set a system restore point before doing this just in case though)
1) Get the latest synaptic drivers here: http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/lof … 15103.html
You need version >= 13 (currently ASUS only offers version 12.2.8; the ones on synaptics' website are ancient).
2) Uninstall old drivers/reboot/install new drivers/reboot. Now you have a driver supporting the gestures shown here: http://www.synaptics.com/solutions/tech … s/touchpad but they're not enabled by default, at least on this ASUS.
3) Download the file I put up here: http://drop.io/syntp_sgs (named synpd_enableSGS.inf)
Then, right click the file and choose "Install." This will modify the registry to enable the Gesture Suite.
Note: this may not work if you were somehow running 64-bit windows (ie, not an eee pc)
4) Edit your settings in the Synaptics driver device settings tab.
Enjoy!

Steps 1 and 2 went well. However, there is no right click 'install' option on synpd_enableSGS.inf. Please help. Thanks!

Windows may automatically change it to a txt file. To fix this open the txt file in notepad then click save as. When the window comes up it should say Type: .txt, click that dropdown box and choose All Files, then add .inf to the name of the document, then save. This should make a new document that is a .inf. Simply right click and install.

Worked great. Thank you for the help.
Two finger scroll is now working. JTB....thanks for the easy to follow instructions.

Now if there were only a way to get two finger right click!

The 1005ha now has a different typ of scrolling. You pull or push your finger along the right edge od the touch pad. it only takes one finger and works very well. You can also make the sam motion and continue to scroll by making a circular motion, which gives even better control over the scroll.
This scroll feature can be done on the right side of the touchpad for up and down scrolling and on the bottom of the touch pad for left to right scrolling.
The 2 finger gesture is now for zooming in and out such as on the apple products. Im sure there is a link somewhere for the 1005ha owner manual.

This is true but some people, especially those spoiled by Apple 2 finger scrolling, miss it.

I found the edgezone one finger scroll to be annoying. I guess I am used to using two finger from mac. Now I can do both two finger scroll (anywhere on the touchpad) and pinch for zoom in and zoom out.

Ok so how did the driver updates work out. is it stable?

So far so good. No issues that I can tell at this point.

I have to say thanks a zillion for putting this together. I've never used apple equipment but we have an 900HE around and that's when I first saw the two-finger scroll. I love everything else about my 900HA but not having that was driving me crazy for when I sometimes use it without a mouse. So thank you, thank you!
The instructions worked liked charm. The only thing I might add for clarification is that you need to uninstall the older driver from the add/remove programs menu, reboot, then re-install the new driver by running the program. I had tried it once by using the "advanced" option directly on the system/driver menu's and that did not work. My bad, I should have just checked add/remove programs first.
Anyway, great work --- helped me get my scroll back!

I installed this according to the directions on my 1005ha with winxp and they work perfectly, except for the two finger flicks, which seem to be missing. However when I tried to install this on my dell 1520 with vista home premium, it causes a crash, and the settings page wont even open. I get the error: rundll32 has stopped working. Any suggestions?

I'm trying this right now. I'll report back, hopefully with a good result!
EDIT: The link for the latest driver you linked to is broken.

I tried the drivers from the Facebook link earlier in this thread, and those work perfectly. No two-finger scroll option, though, just the side touching. Zooming works, too.

I can't get the horizontal scrolling to work in anything but the test area in the Synaptec settings.

Thanks jtb!

just wondering what's so good about two finger scrolling, as opposed to the continuous one finger scrolling which comes standard, and allows for far greater scrolling than just a single swipe.

Well the drivers that JTB linked here and are normally available on the 1000HE model allows for both the two finger and continuous scroll. Its just an added option for convenience. Anyone can live without it, its just nice to have.

I'm just used to two-finger from using Macs before picking up my netbook. It's verynatural to me, and much more defined than the one-finger method, which I feel like I could end up accidentally triggering.

Thanks jtb. Most of the multigestures work. The only things that don't are three finger flick and the rotate. The rotate icon shows up when I do it, but it doesn't flip anything. The three finger down works, but I can't configure what it does (defaultly,it just closes your window).
otherwise, it's all good
Thanks again.
