Four versions of CrunchBang Linux 9.04.01, a faster, resource frugal Ubuntu variant are available.
The 32bit "Lite" version has apparently replaced what was previously known as CrunchEEE.
It also appears that too many direct downloads attempts at http://crunchbanglinux.org have overwhelmed the site.
To help out, I set up a direct download mirror site here:
http://gooplusplus.com/crunchbang
There are also various bittorrent download links available contained in messages here:

"After a slight delay and a prolonged testing period, the final builds of CrunchBang Linux 9.04.01 are now available. As the version number suggests, it is based on Ubuntu Jaunty Jackalope. As with all previous releases, 9.04.01 has been built from scratch using the Ubuntu MinimalCD. The builds were completed on the 6th July 2009 and contain all security and package updates available at that time. For the first time, CrunchBang Linux is available to download in both 32 and 64-bit builds. Other noticeable changes as a result of moving to the latest stable Ubuntu release include: much improved boot performance with faster start-up times; improved support for wireless cards; ext4 filesystem support."

Nice! I thought that there was always a lite version of crunchbang and that cruncheee was something different. Some of the earlier discussion on their forums indicated that cruncheee would be redundant since 9.04 works with the eeepc. Not sure if that is true but it will be interesting to see what happens.
I am going to try to use the array kernel with the lite .iso some time tomorrow.

That is correct; eee pc support has been added "upstream" so that an eee-specific release is no longer necessary. That being said, a few people on the #! forums are experimenting with various eee kernels and scripts.
FYI there was some buzz about a #! netbook version with the lpia kernel (optimized for atom processors) but early experiments were not promising: http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/topic … ll-mini-9/

Has Crunchbang added an auto hiding panel yet? That was the biggest thing that pushed me to try other things, as I hated wasting all those pixels on the bottom of the screen to display a full time panel. I eventually ended up with a minimal ubuntu install + XFCE, as its panel will auto hide.

Crunchbang has used many panels through the years (bmpanel, pypanel, lxpanel, currently tint2). You can use the Xfce panel in #! if you like, just add it to your ~/.config/openbox/autostart in place of the default panel. It's totally modular that way...
Personally I prefer my #! with no panel....

I already asked in the feedback section - nothing happened. Why I can't edit this page?

Unfortunately 9.04 only works with one model of Eee though. Sure, most of the hardware works but that doesn't get you 9.4 hours of battery life. :-D

So, have people had good luck using 9.04 on any of the 1000 series?
I've been waiting for Cruncheee 9.04, and I would like to upgrade, but I'm not entirely trusting of Ubuntu's support of netbooks (considering how badly Mandriva messed it up last year, and Ubuntu didn't even want to attempt it until now).
And anyone who is using 9.04 now, have you added the Array.org kernel or any scripts (elmuratos script for 8.10 was great)?
fewt: 9 hours battery life? are you serious? i've not gotten anymore than 5 hours on my 1000h.

Hi I have been an earlier unnoffical version of crunchbang 9.04 and it works great on my 901. This is my joint favourite distro with eeebuntu. MY early version uses bmpanel which doesnt autohide but selecting full screen view in firefox - covers it.
this new version uses tint2 - I dont think that autohides but you might be able to move it to the left of the screen I cant remember. (Its very easy to change panels in crunchbang - just a matter of editing autostart which is an option on the main menu)
On the unofficial version the machine is in powersaver mode so the chips only increase to 1.6 when they need to - eee-applet was included in the early version but while it gives you power to control the fan and disable camera wifi etc it doesnt seem to use all the hotkeys or the ability to switch chp speed apart from overclocking, so Id quite like to use fewts or elurmatos scripts.
I have run the new official version in live mode and it works fine - hooks up my wifi automatically. Not sure about installing it tho as my unoffical one is working perfectly apart from the scripts. also I have customised conky to suit my needs and to pick up the 2 chips the ootb version only looks at one of them

I think it was tested on the 1000. I don't know of any others that the hardware keys work on out of the box (none that I've had my hands on do).

Hi fewt
I'm pleased to say your scripts work well on crunchbang 9.04, I dont see a tray, but thats not a problem for me. I think it would be worth creating a cruncheee that encorporates them.
I think on the 901 with 9.04 most of the function keys work ootb (not sure about wifi toggle) the silver keys dont but then I suppose they are unique to the eee so a special script would be necessary for them.
thanks for all your work

My scripts are integrated in crunchbang? I was going to download it today and install it on an SD card, I didn't know that they were there (are you sure?).

Sorry Fewt I confused you - no theyre not I have to get them from your repositories. I've just emailed to another thread saying that there still is a need for a 9.04 cruncheee - which has the scripts embedded and the hotkeys set up. Your system of editing the text file to configure the utilities is very #! so I think your scripts could be packaged into a cruncheee rather nicely.

I have already created the eee #! wiki page
http://wiki.eeeuser.com/crunchbang.html
I just can't link it to the main page because I'm not allowed to edit the main page or the cruncheee page (why?).
Can any of you edit the main page? If so, remove the cruncheee section and add crunchbang section with a link
to this new page I made.
Also, I haven't heard from ant. Can any of you reach him? Is there anybody else who is able to "let me in"? I'm guessing they blocked
everybody due to spammers and need to unblock the true editors.

Thanks for doing this. WRT the various eee controls it all depends on what repositories you have installed so I dont see eee-control or eeepc-config in mine.
I am most happy with fewts scripts - they work best for me on the 901. but to get these you have to add his repository first. Details at http://www.statux.org/wiki/index.php?title=EeePC
I think these are the scripts used by default in eeebuntu and considering eeebuntu is probably the best eee specific distro thats a good enough accolade for me.
Fewt - the scripts work well on #! but any ideas how I get the eeepc-tray to launch? I have downloaded it using synaptic but when I type 'eeepc-tray' in the terminal I get 'command not found'
I am using the tint2 panel

Can you add your tips to
http://crunchbanglinux.org/wiki/crunche … all_tips?s ?
I'm trying not to have any technical stuffs on the eee wiki ,but let everything be on the crunchbang wiki (keep everything together).
I didn't try the latest #! on my eee yet, so I probably mistaken on the eee controls and eeepc-config stuffs. Btw, what did you see
(so I can correct the page)?

Installed it on a SD card and running it on my 1000H.
I've also installed eee-applet from Synaptic, and the trick to have it in the tray is to open a terminal and enter:
eee-applet & exit
the '&' enables the process to go on even if the terminal is closed.
F5,F6, F10, F11 and F12 are working (not been testing the other keys).

how does it compare with fluxflux sl?
I havent insalled flux yet - but interested in your views as you have got both running flux certainly looks great in live mode but interested in how it compares speed wise

I used it for a week then reinstalled #! 8.10.02, better overall imo, the OSD was what really pushed me to switching back.

In the #! forums, the same issue is happening. I'm planning to stick with 8.10.04 (I thought it was 04, not 02) until the problem is fixed
or an even newer version is out).

@cimh
Both distributions are fast booting ones, with wi-fi working straight out-of-the-box, lots of handy applications, and tons of others in their repositories. Both forums are supportive and welcoming.
I couldn't choose between the two of them! ![]()

The latest #! page is now linked to the main page. And the cruncheee link is removed.
#! is now under "Standard" Linux Distros (scroll 3/4) in the main wiki page.
