Well here is the thread where we discus this idea I had, (inspired by Bigears metal keyboard skin)
Thread for the metal keyboard: http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?id=64033
Brief Synapse of his product here: http://portablemonkey.com/article/keybo … pc-1000he/
Basicaly, making a template out of paper for a design that you can lay in between the keyboard keys after cutting it out.
If anyone wants to join in the project (you only need basic photoediting skills) I will provide some stuff to get started ![]()
Basic step one: get a template
I scanned my 1000he keyboard, lets see what we can do ![]()
Step 2 - Photoshop it till you get just the template (remove the buttons)

Step 3 - deciding how to work with the skin

Step 4 - Find out how to print it in exact dimensions (this is the tricky part)

Every printer is different, so change the % and margins when you print to match your keyboard
Cut out the green with an exacto knife.
Enjoy, (hopefully I got it right
)
Remember, this skin is less durable than BigEar's metal skins, If you want something more durable and professionaly cut with laser cutters visit the links I provided at the beginning ![]()

if you dont decide to do the paper project in red, let me know because i offer that color as well. actually, a few people have ordered it too. not sure if they are from the forum but if they are out there, upload some pics.
thanks for the links by the way Cms

No problem ![]()
I think the paper project is good because many people may use the paper one as a "test" to see what color they want
because paper will get nasty and wears out easily, I bet many people will opt to buy your higher quality product in the color they found ![]()

Very cool, thanks alot Cms!, when i get home from work today ill print out a copy and get out the xacto knife ![]()
Also a suggestion, you can get better quality high gloss photo paper to make this as well. It would prolly hold up better than just regular printer paper.
Ill post pics of finished product when im done. ![]()

I just printed out a quick black & White copy and cut the surroundings with a siccor to see how it matched up and the template is a tad to small.
From my ruler, it looks to be about 1 CM off Horizontally and 3 MM off vertically, i could be off on the measurements, but its deffinatly a little off.
Here is a quick pic , i cut out the escape key to show a starting point then taped it in place. Also another suggestion the boarders around the keys could prolly be a tad thinner, with all the "Green" cut out from the ESC key it was very tight and it would prolly cause keys to stick and also possible ventalation problem? seeing as theres abount a MM space between the keys and the tray it fits into hot air also might vent out that way.

if its off laterally and vertically, then that would be why the key is tight, I know the proportions are right, its just the skew factor that needs to be changed ![]()

I would try printing it in microsoft word
make the orentation landscape, and insert the picture, stretch the picture to the exact edges of the paper, and then print

basicaly if your using 2007 word:
First rightclick on image in thread -> save picture
open word:
pagesetup -> orientation -> landscape
then either drag the picture from the folder ontop of word, or go to Insert-> image -> navigate to picture
put cursor over the edge of picture until new stretch mouse icon which looks like this <->
drag sides of image to the edge of the paper.
do the same for the top and bottom of the paper
print and enjoy ![]()

Ill keep playing with it, not sure what im doing wrong, its in Landscape mode, i drag the picture on, then stretch it side to side and up and down to the edge, it doesnt stay on edge but it does get bigger.

Well i "borrowed" some of that more sturdy glossy photo paper from work. so ill wait and use the xacto knife since there was only 2 sheets left lol and i have a shakey hand.

tip, the keyboard will not work if ANY, I mean ANY of the green is still on the keyboard skin. ![]()
Im going to cut my slivers of green out later, It looks good like its going to fit, but its going to take another 20 mins to cut out what I didnt cut out the first time....
Make sure you get all the green out the first time ![]()
