Hey everyone, sorry about the delay in this. I got release 3 done before Christmas, and then promptly hit the road and forgot about it for a while. (Something about uploading on christmas eve just seems... obsessive.)
Anyway, r3 is available at LinuxTracker:
http://linuxtracker.org/torrents-details.php?id=5048
I'm also hosting it for a limited time here. I'll be pulling this link later today, so if people could get this mirrored that would be great.
Improvements in this release:
- Hotkeys support: VGA, brightness, audio
- Automated flash drive creation from the live CD is improved (use the --autodetect option instead of a device when running the installer script)
Right now I'm stuck in a backwoods suburb with dialup... If someone could update the wiki with this info and mirrors, I would really appreciate it. I haven't even caught up on the eeeXubuntu thread yet... Thanks to those who are offering support, updating the wiki, and providing mirrors... it's a big help.
I'll be around later on today to answer any questions, and be back online in a more normal form later on this week.
Thanks all, the response has been nothing short of amazing.

Hey Oasisbob you aare a legend.
Will you be providing an option for those of us who have installed r2 or will we have to download and install r3 as if from scratch.
Many thanks

Does this do the direct-render 3d graphics patch?
Wow that tracker's slow. 46 hour projected download. I'll try to add it to a server of mine, but _wow_
looking forward to seeing it. Rev 2 was nice, but still had some issues.

As happy as I am that eeeXubuntu r3 is now out, your timing was the worst for me.
I was toying with the idea of installing eeeXubuntu for a long while, but kept pushing that to until r3 came out...
When I finally decide to take the plunge (and I even bought a USB DVD Writer for the occasion!), I start installing r2. And while the installer is running, I see this!
So curse you, oasisbob!
You owe me a blank CD :p

I updated the wiki with your ISO and the torrent. Whoever mirrors will need to add those.

oasisbob,
Could we trouble you for the correct MD5sum for the r3 .iso?
Many thanks for all your hard work!

I think I remembered to include it with the torrent. (I think...)

Not yet. I saw the fix, but totally forgot to include it. I'll add it to the list for <>Report this post for spam<>.

Good question... I'll comment more on this later.

I'm torrenting R3 now to see if I can get past whatever was preventing me from succeeding in making a USB installation. Thank you again for all your hard work! ![]()

Those of you who can't use the torrent, expect a mirror soon.

How big is the install? (I've got a 2gb surf)
Regular Ubuntu takes up about 2.3 GB - just enough to make it a pain to install (then remove openoffice, etc., so it'll fit)

I've loaded it! Fn keys mostly work, Brightness looks good and gagwe goes up and down. Volume shows the brightness graphic and the gage did not move.
Unfortunately, all of this was lost when Xubuntu did it's system update! Back to the wiki and my goal of reverse engineering some of this stuff into that Ubuntu Scriptpack format.

Those who have downloaded the torrent please seed for a while. Just started my download and will do the same. Thanks.

torrent is speeding up... with seven peers and 4 copies at 100%. If everyone will KEEP SEEDING AND STAY ATTACHED TO THE TORRENT which is, after all, the whole point, ten this should get fast pretty fast. That's the whole point of a torrent.

I'm about a third of the way into the ISO. I'll let my iMac seed at least till I go to bed tonight (assuming it's finished before then; if not, I might just let it seed overnight).

Torrent going slow for you or not able to use torrents at all? Please use this mirror: http://lildragon.eu/eeexubuntu/eeexubun … p-i386.iso
After you got it, you can always download the torrent, and point it to the directory where you downloaded it: that way you can seed the file even though you didn't download it via the torrent. It would help making the torrent faster!

Ok, good news update. I ran the ACPI script from the Ubuntu scriptpack and the Fn keys are working again. At first I thought WiFi wasn't woring but it was disabled in BIOS (?). I did lose OSD.though. I added Volume control to the panel and can see the volume go up and down and mute kick in-and-out. I am good! If I can just figure out how to get Volume control to survive the direct rendering and external monitor support I'd be golden.
w00t!

I second this. ... really don't want to have to install all over again, if it can be avoided.
Thanks for everything OasisBob!

Melvin000,
This should work but to be on the safe side, backup important data on your Eee before proceeding.
EDIT: The number of partitions (and boot order?) may have an effect on the ordering of hd drives. The instructions below worked for me with a single partition on the SSD containing WinXP.
During installation specify Grub installation to (hd1) (instead of the default (hd0)). You can make this change when at the summary screen of what the Installer will do, click the Advanced button. This change will write Grub to the SD card not the SSD.
When you finish installation and boot from the SD card the first entry on the Grub menu will not work. Hit e to edit it, e again to edit the first line, change hd(1,0) to hd(0,0) and then b for boot. Once in eeeXubuntu, in a terminal sudo mousepad /boot/grub/menu.lst and change to hd(0,0) in the relevant boot entries towards the end of the file.
Must go to sleep now... 2:44am

I've got r2 installed to SDHC at present; can I update to r3 somehow, or just do a fresh install?

Having only recently got my EEEPC and spent a while tinkering in Easy and Advanced mode... They're just how I like them. Along the way I've had to use EEEXubuntu to save my drive images to an external HDD - Whenever I boot up in EEEXubuntu I'm amazed by how great it looks on a such a machine... Infact I'm really looking forward to installing it. Thing is; At the moment I'm not the demographic for this OS - It is too early in its development for somebody with little Linux knowledge and somebody that just wants a working/stables/complete OS.
All I wanted to say here is thanks for the time in developing this... It's coming along nicely and I look forward to this time I can install this as my primary OS (And with the speed of development up to now, I suspect this wont be long!).
