I read so many good and bad stories in this forum about updating BIOS to v8804 and I wanted to try myself. I don’t know if any one cover it before but I want you to walk through, probably the easiest way, how to update your BIOS to v8804.
1) You need to download ASUS Update Utility for WIN XP from Asus Web page.
http://dlsvr03.asus.com/pub/ASUS/EeePC/ … 071211.zip
2) Unzip the file then run Setup.
3) After you install it Run the program
Start>Programs>ASUS>ASUSUpdate for Eee PC>AsusUpdate
As you see above, you have 5 options to choose from. Do not try to download or update BIOS online because it does not work.
Now it is time to Check BIOS information then Save Current BIOS to file
Save current BIOS incase if you want to go back to previous version of BIOS.
4) Download BIOS v8804 (Thanks to ivc!)
Note: This BIOS update for 701, not 702
http://rapidshare.com/files/72661872/701-8804.zip
then unzip it.
5) Open up the Asus BIOS Software again then select Update BIOS from file: find the v8804 BIOS file then hit next. It will ask you to reboot then do it.
It may take up to 5 minutes to update BIOS then Windows will start. It will ask you bunch of “Find new Device” bla bla just say next to them all becase you already have all the drivers, so basically you will do lots of clicking to NEXT button ![]()
It will not find the wireless yet so don’t worry. It is also still running 600 MHz, do not panic!
Any way it will ask you to reboot again then do it. You will see a new BIOS screen different than previous. Hit F2 to access BIOS then you need to change FSB from 70 to 100. You also need to enable Wireless, USB, web cam, and some other things from BIOS. Save it then reboot.
Then after Windows starts, it will find the some more USB stuff, Wireless, and Web Camera. Just click more NEXT to install all the drivers.
Then you will be all set. No problems or anything.
Everything will work as before and CPU will run 900 MHz under Windows ![]()

I also recommend you to update video driver from Intel.com

Good Luck!

One question, was your Eee stable at 900MHz before this BIOS update?

I must also inquire as to whether you have the wavey lines on your screen as reported by others.
I'm thinking of using 8804 myself, as SetFSB is not properly working on mine. But the wavey lines would be kinda a turnoff for me...

I updated the bios to 8804 on my 701 and I confirm I have no wavy lines. It's running perfectly FAST! I also installed the video drivers created by a user here from this thread http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?id=6489
Modded the BOIS bootup screen using the tool mentioned in this forum http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?pid=61074
No wavy lines in XP
OC at 900MHz
Closer look at the edge of screen. No shimmering lines.
Clearer pic of the desktop.

I just finished updating to the 8804 bios and was very excited at first because it appeared I did not have wavy lines. Unfortunately, I have found I do. They show at the very top center and go down only a few lines of pixels so it's barely noticeable. (I had to get real close to even see them) I also see them at the bottom but only on certain colors, so again, not very noticeable. I think I'll keep it. I've got a 7B model running 2GB of RAM. I may try the video drivers that LazerTag created to see if that helps.

Just re-flashed it to 8804, wavy lines ![]()

Did you flashed the way I described above?

Yes and it won't matter because it's the ROM file that makes the difference. Another problem I encoutered is the battery kept showing 50% charing when it's fully charged and it won't go over 50%. Later on it was fine again and showing 100% charged. One of the reason that I just went back to 0401 is because there are only two settings in the bios for frequency. It's either 70 or 100, and nothing in between. I just want mine to run in the 750 MHz range.
Oh and here's a solution of a question that've been asked before but was never answered. If anyone has a message box showing "AsusOSD.exe not existing" while trying to re-flash their bios. It's because you disabled some of the Asus utilities in the startup. So go back to msconfig, enable the AsTray, AsACPI stuff and two other igfx graphic utilities. Reboot it and it should work.

I have been using FSB to overclock the EE for a few weeks now, and I decided to try the 8804 bios upgrade. It went smoothly and I don't have any issues with the screen. Ran 3dmark2001 with the latest Intel driver from the Intel website and got 3105 at 800*480*32.
The camera works fine, it has USB 2.0 and no screen issues. It runs at a consistant 900 mhz. I will try for awhile and see if I have any issues.

Im gonna try this on my 8g model 7b, ill report how it goes.
UPDATE
Will NOT work on a 8g, its a 702, not 701 ![]()

I tried following this method last night by using the links and following the instructions exactly. But, when it reboots to flash the bios, after identifying the drives I get a message saying it cant read the ROM file ?
Anybody else had this problem and what can I try to solve it.
Does 8804 support USB2 or is it only USB1 as I need 2 for my digital camera ?

Alright, I did the update, and everything seemed fine at first, but I too am stricken with the wavy lines. Though, I guess that's really a bit of an overstatement, as most of the time, it's not really visible at all. It actually seems quite a bit similar to what happens to my LCD TV when the Clock setting is messed with a bit.
I also noticed that the wavy lines aren't there when using LazerTag's video drivers. So I believe it probably has more to do with the video drivers than the actual BIOS itself.
It does run quite a bit better now, though. I just hope Asus goes ahead and releases a more official version of this BIOS.

Can anyone please tell if CPU fan threshold is the same with 8804 as with 0401? (55C - ON, 45C -OFF). Thanks.

Make sure you have the 701 eee not 702. You have to rename the bios file to 701.bios
Thee USB is 2.0 in 8804

edited my post and also included the link for new video driver.

OK Starting to get really brassed off with this thing now. Ive tried renaming the file every combination I can think of.
EEE is definately 701 model with 0401 Bios.
No matter what i try i always get "Can not read the Bios file".
Is there another way of doing it thats guaranteed to work before I break something (Intentionally)!!!

You can try to install 0401 over 0401 then you can try 8804.
Maybe something happen your current BIOS and causing problem when you try to update it.

So I did this and it seems fine but I seem to have lost the use of my function keys... did I do something wrong in the cmos settings or what?
Offline
You should not lost your function keys. Check your hardware setup in xp to see if there is anything not installed yet.
also check your bios and enable some of the things you'll need such as camera and such.
