Ok, I've gone back to the 0204 BIOS version because wireless is not working and it doesn't give access to enable/disable unboard devices.
Here's detailed BIOS information for geeks:
With 8804 BIOS installed =============
Here's the info provided by the ASUS Update utility for Eee PC:
Model: 701
Version: 8804
Chipset: I915M
Date: 07/25/2007-18:18:29
Type: AMI
Size: 512K
Here's the info provided by the BIOS after pressing F2 at bootime:
ASUS ACPI BIOS revision 8804
Core version: 8804
Build date: 07/25/07
Ec Firmware version: 701_065
With the 204 BIOS installed ============
Here's the info provided by the ASUS Update utility for Eee PC:
Model: 701
Version: 0204
Chipset: I910GML
Date: 10/05/2007-23:34:14
Type: AMI
Size: 512K
Here's the info provided by the BIOS after pressing F2 at bootime:
ASUS ACPI BIOS revision 0204
Core version: 0204
Build date: 10/05/07
Ec Firmware version: 701_065
===========
Note that the chipset is different. This BIOS update release might be an error from Asus and was meant for another BIOS? At least we know that the 701 can run with a 100MHz FSB.

The new bios has options to enable/disable devices. This is under the security tab.
The naming was a little bit odd.
Then again I agree it is not a good plan to switch to the new bios
(actually in my system i kept on getting messages that the onboard lan could not connect).

The 0204 BIOS gets USB2 working as well as the webcam under Skype !
I forgot to check the BIOS version my computer came with before applying the 8804 BIOS from Asus' utility. Therefore, I don't know what made the USB2 controller and webcam fonction properly:
-Is it that the 0204 BIOS was still more recent then the one that originally shipped with my computer
-Or is it some voodoo trick that activates some obscure and magical BIOS function when the 0204 BIOS is wiped with the 8804 and flashed back to 0204 again ...

Have you tired using NHC (notebook hardware control) in windows xp? Is it possible to change the processor to a pentium m 730 or 725 and undervolt it?

What is NCH? A hacking tool?

NHC doesn't recognize Eeepc's celeronM.
All voltage setting is gray out, and cannot be changed in NHC.

Anybody tried AMIBCP (supposed to unhide hidden AMI BIOS options) on the 0204 BIOS?
AMIBCP v.2.43.23: http://www.lejabeach.com/sisubb/amibcp2.43.23.zip
seems to be from June 2004, so there may be a newer version out there somewhere...

Yes, there are no hidden options on the 0204 or 8804 BIOS.
AMIBCP 3.13 works fine on these. http://rapidshare.com/files/66173006/AMIBCP313.zip

I was just wondering guys, is the 204 bios still having issues or is it just that no one is using/complaining anymore?

What's the reason for messing with the Bios?
Offline
TO get a 100MHz bus and thus the full 900MHz of the CPU.

The 0204 BIOS now works with USB2 and the WebCAM. Couldn't figure out if it's because earlier eee pc shipped with an earlier BIOS version of if reflashing the BIOS back to 204 solved most people's problem.

@TechKing
I just got my EEE and havent done much with it yet. From what youre saying, to get the usb2 and webcam to function correctly I need to update to the 8804 BIOS then revert back to 0204? And how do i roll back to 0204?

mack i suggest you try to go to the new bios from the eeePC settings page.
The problem for techking either is related to XP or to his specific device.
and perhaps better first check if you actually have a problem.

I never found out why myself and others had problems with the chipset allowinf USB2 functionnalities.
-Start by installing Windows XP on your computer and then add all the necessary ASUS drivers. To see if USB2 is enabled, you should have a USB2 enhanced controller listed under the 4 USB controllers.
-To see if your camera is functional, install skype and look if your camera is working in its video settings.
-If you can't do either, please use Asus update utility to get your current BIOS version and post it to this website. We'll help you out.

i updated the bios and it says its ver 0401 build 10/17/2007. i havent insalled xp yet so i dont know if usb 2.0 and webcam are ok.

Anyone has the 0204 ROM? Thanks,

Can't find the 0204 BIOS on ASUS' websites.
Any has tried the new 0401 BIOS? What works/functionalities?

I havent got my EEE at the moment. My better half stole it for a course in Bangkok so i can't check, but i would like some clarification as to the current bios's available so i know which one to install when i get it back:
This is all assuming under windows XP:
it originally ships with the 0204 Bios - No functioning cam in skype, no USB2 and underclocked cpu.
8804 - updated bios with USB 2 and Cam in skype but is unstable when FSB clocked at 100. Possible wireless issues?
0401 - Where did this come from. Anyone tried it?
Am i to understand that reverting back to a 0204 bios keeps the functioning USB2 and webcam? Seems unlikely?

That it is unstable is not surprising. Let me explain:
On a stock unit the clock is 70 Mhz. The bus is quad pumped so actual FSB is 280 Mhz. The stock DDR2-667 memory module is rated at 333 Mhz, well above the 280 Mhz FSB.
On a overclocked unit the clock is 100 Mhz. The actual FSB is 400 Mhz. The memory module is rated at 333 Mhz. Memory is being overclocked 66 Mhz.
Anyone planning on running at 100 Mhz and upgrading the ram should be getting DDR2-800 (400 Mhz) memory.

Can anyone confirm whether the Eee PC will work with a DDR2-800 module?
It sounds like a simple solution, but I don't want to buy a DDR2-800 module that costs twice as much as a DDR2-667 module ... only to find out it doesn't work with the Eee PC.
If the Eee can handle the 800 RAM that would be a perfect way to get the full performance out of the Eee PC's hardware.

I would like to know the same thing. I was just about to order a 2 gig ram chip, but read this and guess I will wait and see.

It has a later date than 8804, so maybe some bugs have been fixed.

As I understand it, the only "fix" that 0401 has over 8804 is the speed is back down to 70MHz instead of 100MHz (and it's stable). I really want to find a way to get the Eee to run stable at 100MHz ... even if it means I have to purchase a more expensive RAM module.
