Let's be honest: The netbooks are becoming boring.
The same configuration, the same processor, almost equal autonomy, and so on...
Really the day one curiosity is gone (hopefully we do our mods... lol).
No idea of the way that companies take, (I know that is the way to get our money...), but what we want in a netbook in a 1 year, or NOW?
Here my ideas:
1 - Autonomy MUST be at least 10 hours,
2 - Multi card reader (MMC/SD/MSD/MS...) and 2 slots!!!
3 - Why not a Mini-DVD drive for?
3 - Reading of HD content,
4 - Multi Touch Technology,
5 - Maybe a second screen, in the cover, only to read mails, listening to music...
6 - SSD with a minimum of 128GB,
7 - minimum of 2GB RAM,
8 - Wifi N,
9 - BT 2.1,
10 - 3G.
I know, all this already exist, but spread over several models ... and I want this in ONE model!!!
Is asking too much gentlemen?
(They can ask me $500 for it

I would like an express card slot. That way, anyone could easily add whatever hardware extension they needed.

I think they are getting "boring" (to use your term) partially because they were designed for a price point significantly below most traditional laptop computers. And there's only so much miniaturized electronics you can cram into such a small space for, say, US$500 or less.
But if more and more users start using netbooks as their primary computing devices -- or even their primary *mobile* computing devices -- there could be more "stuff" added and more expensive capabilities built in. There's only so much you can cram into a small form factor, and where that's a problem, that's where external USB has to come into play.
But there are other things you could to (in theory): expand the RAM limits, incorporate separate video RAM, maybe one PC/express card slot if they could figure out a way to get it in there. All these things would make the cost advantage of a netbook vanish, but if a large enough segment of the market doesn't seem to care (and would choose a netbook over a full-sized laptop even at a similar or higher price point), then maybe we'd see more powerful netbooks in the next generation. The ones coming out now are just variations on the same theme for the most part.

personally i disagree still having a blast with them, while i agree with both of you, i am still far from bored with the netbook market, the modability excites me, and that definitely keeps me busy, also watch the market and developtment on them grow is quite fascinating, its still EXTRMELY early in the netbook game, so we have plenty more stuff to come.

I'm not bored with it -- I'm just using the OP's words. It sounds like the "boredom" was referring to the current lack of "breakneck" pace advances -- so far.
Again, if the netbook market shows it will pay more for more power and more features, these will come in due time.

@dougeeebear: (I'm not bored with my "precious", but with the every day "new-ultimate-netbook" story, when the true is "more from the same").
Well if we count all the millions of netbooks sold around, since almost 2 years, all the royalties are cheaper. That means that every new model becomes cheaper than the one before, so they could do more hi-end models...
In many countries the netbooks are in the top of sells. So it's important to maintain this. And if the costumers don't ask for more...

BTW, I'm just curious, is W8WCA an Amateur Radio call sign?

Yes it is my Amateur Call -
I am not really an active Ham though.
I am very active listener to what little SW Broadcast there is still on.
As well as listening to Shortwave Utilities (Any non-broadcast type communications - like Coast Guard Fishing fleets, Air Force.
