Converting My asus eee pc 701 in to a tablet
i cut a screen bezil from a spare case i had, and stuck that on the lid, so that it looks alot more eee like rather then just a laptop with a hole on top
Edit: neatened up picture
after the disappointment of the aeeeris kit, i decided to have a go of making my own tablet mod.
tools needed:
screw driver
dremel (i didnt have 1 i made the hole with a stanly knife)
i cut a opening in the "lid" of the eee pc about the same size as the screen removed a few of the plastic clips inside, so that i could rearange everything. the lcd controller is near where the webcam used to be.
everything else is prety much self explanatory.
i had to remove the magnet from the screen, first time i put it all together and the screen wudnt turn on i was abit woried lol. then i relized what was wrong
here are a few pics, the opening for the screen isnt finished yet. and my touch panel is cracked
i will neaten the opening up when i can buy some files
all in all i think it looks nicer the the aeeeris "Kit" and fits better, and didnt cost me $60 :@ lol
i will post some pics of it when i have neatened it up

no it wasnt that easy with the Stanley knife, i didnt realize how thick the plastic was lol .
i get alot of comments on my thumb, its always been able to bend like that, dont know why :S it doesnt stick out to the right like that in real life, must be the camera angle

Great work, thanks for posting this, it has inspired me to do the same to mine.
A little bit of detail about how the connections are arranged back to the mobo would be appreciated, and I wonder if maybe the speakers could be moved to the top?
Thanks, Ron

here are a few pics with the lid open, the video cable is a tight fit. when i completely finish it i will use dome double sided tape to stop the laptop from opening, as it may damage the video cable if any one tries to open it

What if you mount the screen where the keyboard use to be? It'd be much thinner. =P

i bet the heat would wreak havoc on the LCD.

i mite see if i can make it thiner at a later date, im just focusing on getting it working first , as soon as i get my touch screen through i will be happy ![]()
im not sure how the heat would affect the screen? on the **** aeeeris kit, the screen was laying on the metal, and would of got hot during extended use. but i know he didnt do any research or testing, as it didnt even fit lol , so that probably not all that much to go by

This is definitely what I would look into doing only using a dremel for accurate cutting but this whole concept is just great

one problem im having is that if i put my thumb on the area in the red box, it turns on, or shutdown, if i do it, i hear the power button click

your thumb scares me.....
And You should learn to use masking tape and a straight edge before cutting.
